Just finished this. Came out great! You’re the best, you would make a wonderful Prime Minister! Just checked Amazon, you’re paint set is now under $36.00. I just snapped one up! You teach in a way that makes painting fun and less intimidating. Love the animals too.
That’s really brilliant Sue, so glad you enjoyed it! And really good news about the paints going down in price, what a bargain! Wish we could get them for that low price over here in France, but they’re still good value for me at just under €50. Glad the painting turned out well! Thanks so much for your support!
My 55 th. 😂😂 you must have had a fun time painting this one. Thankfully you didn't get the job of prime minister! I enjoyed the making of this landscape with a hake. Our two sons joined us the last two days of our holiday and played cards with my wife while I watched this video. I laughed quite a bit and my son next to me ask what was so funny about a picture😂😂. ( I had my ears in) so thanks again for sharing Wim😊
Hi Wim, that is so funny! I can see your son is sitting there, giving you sideways looks every time you chuckle! Glad you enjoyed this painting, it was a lot of fun and I’m so glad to be able to share it with you! Happy painting and bon voyage!
Thank you so much for the info on the paint set. I have bought the paints and the brushes from m Japan and love them both. PS. Happy to vote you in as PM!
Thanks Marie, it’s good to know I’ve got the required 100 supporters to get into No. 10. So glad you like the paints, they really are liberating, aren’t they!
Thanks for these explanations - they are exactly what I was wondering about when watching you painting the flower bouquet some days ago - the special consistency of these paints!
LOVE my Kuratake paints! I use them in both my Western & Chinese watercolors with ink! 🤫. Don’t tell my tutor 😂. She asked me a few days ago which color chips I had mixed for my lovely fall colors..”you DID use our Asian paints, right?” OF COURSE! I just didn’t tell her which Asian country they came from! Some of my chips just don’t create the vibrancy you get from these Japanese paints. Also, when I mount my painting, it’s my understanding Kuratake is safe for wet mounting..just to make sure, I might dry mount, come to think of it. Thank you for this! Now..back to attempting some miniature peonies…still trying to get the brush & strokes right with small brushes (I’m used to loading 3 colors on my much longer goat brush..this “experiment” is taking some improvising…I might switch to Gongbi style-which is much more detailed, done with sketches on a Xuan paper I guess you could compare to a thinner hot press western paper) PS Giggled about your prime minister quip..certainly you would be better & last longer than iceberg lettuce ! 😂
Hi Elaine, thanks for your interesting message. I don’t know much (anything?) about oriental painting although I do possess some Chinese ink, rice paper and a book about it, which I think I was given by someone many years ago. I’m sure it’s a wonderful art to learn but there are no teachers here - maybe I’ll have a look on RUclips and find out a bit more. So glad you’re enjoying the tutorials and the banter, look forward to hearing from you again x
I love it when you make art seem so doable. And of course I love the type of paint you use. My spell check still won't let me just say kurataki the correct way. But it is getting closer to it. You make your videos so entertaining and I absolutely look forward the little thing Bill letting me know that you left another video. I bet you would make a wonderful prime minister.
Thanks so much Marjorie for your lovely comments! And thanks for your confidence in my possible alternative career! But I think I’ve settled on staying where I am - I would miss you lot too much!
Well if you ever get really bored with painting LOL just hop across the pond and join our political system. You'll have a wonderful time using you're wonderful communicating skills. We could use a new head of state. Nah stay where you're at it's stress level will be less.
This was an awesome lesson I don’t like doing landscapes or looking at them really, it just not my thing but watching this has me so excited to try this myself, thank you.

That’s such an interesting comment! My set up is really simple, just a little cantilevered arm that holds my iPhone over top of my painting. My daughter Tamsin does all the editing, which is (I think) fantastically good, turning a straightforward amateur video into a work of art. I’m biased of course, but she is very good at this and has really been the reason for the success of the channel. I’ll try to share the set up in a video soon. I watch Ellen too, she’s a good artist x Thanks for your support, much appreciated!
