Nice video but the plug youre showing on the driver side above the tire is the "level plug". To do a fluid change, theres also an 11mm drain plug on the bottom of the trans that you should use to remove the fluid. Then, fill with 6 qts Dex 6 ATF on the top of the vehicle, then if possible, remove the tire, start the vehicle, then remove the "level plug". Once the fluid stops dripping out, youre full
The plug you removed on the side is the check plug my guy. There is a plug in the bottom of the transmission that you use to drain it. Drain from the bottom put bottom plug in and fill transmission till fluid comes out side plug then to check operation. Reinstall check plug run vehicle through gears and pull check plug again while vehicle is off to ensure correct level
I respect you very much Tim and I thank you for your input. The problem with RUclips and making videos of automobile repair is people will fast forward to the parts that are pertinent to what they’re doing. That’s a real problem when you spend a great deal of time and effort making these videos for folks and then you do not get compensated because they skipped through most of it. That is the reason for the distracting and unnecessary facts. If I made content that people wanted to view on a regular basis It wouldn’t be necessary for me to do that but because I’m a very small channel I have to set myself apart. because I do RUclips full-time and It is the reason my home is in foreclosure. I have to find ways to keep the audience that I have. And this was one of the few things that I could think of I’m very sorry that my video wasn’t helpful for you but I wish you the best God bless have a great day
Thank you very much assumption, Some people like them some people don’t I think I get more positive responses about them then negative ones. So I’ll keep put them in there as long as people keep saying they don’t mind them
Well thank you very very much for the compliment and I hope you have a blessed holiday and a happy Thanksgiving welcome to the Channell were very very happy to have you
I have a question for you. I have a 2011 GMC TERRAIN and I am having some issues I believe may have something to do with the transmission. I saw a video where someone was having the exact same issues and they cleaned the injectors and that’s all it needed.
Here’s is my dear, if you can help me with it. I’ve been losing oil and have to watch it every day checking the dipstick to make sure it has enough in it. I have a small oil leak on the axle where the seals at going into the transmission. I have confirmed that it is oil. It is not transmission fluid because it’s not red. Unless it can get dark over time, I don’t see any other oil above it or else it could be dripping from if you can please help I appreciate it. God bless.
Well regretfully that is caused from the PCV being plugged, which then pushed out your rear main seal and has caused that to leak. The engine needs to be removed to repair it, and the intake needs to be removed off of the engine and the PCV valve needs to be cleaned before it’s replaced Luckily, it’s a fairly simple engine to remove so I don’t know what retail repair shops would charge or even if they wanna do the job but I’d say $1500 would be pretty fair and they should make a considerable amount of money since the book doesn’t call for much labor time to remove the engine and replaced the rear main seal but don’t quote me on that because some places just don’t wanna do the work and they’ll quote you so high that if they do the work they’ll get paid to do the work Please respond back when you get it sorted out and how much it cost you
The plug you pull on the side is the level check plug not the drain plug. The drain plug is underneath. This video could be very misleading to a person who is not familiar with these transmissions.
I have a 2012 GMC Terrain sle 3.0 awd. I went to the store and left car running. Came back out and couldn’t get it out of park. Tried and tried no luck. So had someone come pick me up so I tried to remove key to leave, I couldn’t. RUclips how to get key out but didn’t resolve shifting issue. Brake lights come on. I will mention that my +/- for manual shift stopped working a couple of weeks ago. I just purchased a brake pedal sensor switch. Putting that in in the morning. Hope it works. But what do you guys think the issue could be? Love some feed back. Thanks.
It’s a possibility that your shifting cable could be broken. Have you checked for a blown fuse? When you said that you could not get your key out of the ignition that immediately told me that your battery could be low but I don’t think that’s the case it sounds like the connection from the shifter to your ignition has some kind of possible problem. When the batteries go dead in these vehicles you will not be able to remove the key because it uses a solenoid to release the key. I’m not thinking that’s the case in your situation so that would need some examination luckily it does not sound like your transmission is bad it just sounds like there’s some kind of broken connection or a bad Solenoid that controls the release of somethings
Have a 2011 GMC Terrain 2.4l AWD. Did not throw any code but will not go into any forward gear. It will however go into reverse and drive in reverse just fine. Any ideas on What the issue is . I have not checked the level . Thanks
Hey Taz I don’t know where the videos are out there about that problem but I do know that it’s the common problem with that transmission very sorry to say it’s internal. There’s a ring that breaks inside there
@@sharpcarco I think it might have to do with the actual Tehcm that's on the front side of the engine bay directly under the battery. Fluid level is fine but needs to be changed out very dirty. Has 186k and not sure if the fluid has ever been changed.

I'll ask the stupid question here. Did you already drain the fluid and change the filter prior to this video? Thinking about doing this this weekend myself. (Thanks in advance)
Technically, No filter to change sorry to say….. It’s not serviceable or meant to be serviceable I don’t think it’s a filter like the way we think about a filter
Well I believe it’s fairly simple there are two pieces that make up most shifters the main shifting part which is the large black part and a trim ring that is around the bottom of the large black part Taking a small screwdriver you stick it in between the large black part and the small chrome trim piece turn the screwdriver and it will separate the two pieces then underneath facing forward there will be a torques bit it’s either T 10,15, or 20 it could possibly be in Alan but I hardly doubt that. Hopefully that helps you’re welcome to the channel God bless have a great day
I know it's been 2 years since this video was posted but I'm gonna try anyway! There is no other way to check the transmission fill level? No stick anywhere? Or is it just the plug like in this video? Thanks.

Do you have to shut the vehicle off for a couple mins before removing the level plug?
