Reminds me of the skinny creeks I fish, usually I'll use a glide bait or a smaller plug. This video was great to come across while learning more about surf casting for striped bass.
Rivers and back streams are my favorite places to try to find bass. I have a ton of small lures dedicated to fishing stuff like this all the time, and it makes for super fun fishing when you have light tackle
Very cool. This spring I've been seeing a lot of herring feeds in north shore MA similar to this. The year class of fish may have something to do with the volume of feeds? Good luck and hope you find more good spots
It seems like there are some smaller fish around this spring than there was last year. Which is good to see. This year there have been the best herring runs in the last 5 years.
Next time your in skinny water like this and they are following the bait in to your feet, swing the bait around and slap it down hard about 10’ in front of the fish after it turns off. Hold on tight because they will knock the rod out of your hand. They think it’s another bass feeding and cause them to strike
In Maine, we can use live herring as bait. The river bites in the spring when the migration starts here in Maine. The rivers are the place for the big girls.
How early in the spring do you guys get them big girls up in the rivers? I don't fish Maine and would only take maybe 1 or 2 trips there next spring (I fish Massachusetts)
@zach6383 southern maine may 25th to June 15th would probably be the sweet spot. When it's over, the fish move out quickly. My channel has some video up at some of these big herring runs that get a good push of bass. Some spots I'm working 9 inch spooks and magic swimmers in rivers I can cast across.
I stopped filming when it got too dark. Fished for another 2 hours and got a bunch of that same 20-25 inch bass. Only had 2 high 30 inch fish hit my plug. Definitely see the potential!
We have our versions of this in freshwater when they push up cold waters during summer. 36" and well above fish in 3' of water surface feeding on redfins is a blast. Get you a big glide. We smash them on 8" glides. They can't ignore it. You can start the glide venture with a savage gear glide swimmer its cost effective and doesn't roll in current. Easy guide lure client can just reel no real skill needed.
Sebile stick shadd 182 floating My favorite lure Stewiacke/Shubenacadie Rivers Nova Scotia, River herring/ American Shad/ Spawning runs late April/ May / June maybe first 10 days of July if water temp not too high . Thanks . People constantly talking....he doesn't need a surf rod, holy sh*t look at the size of his plug....he casts too far......😅ect ect .drag screamers 😮

Nothing like those river spots. Some of the best kept secrets in the fishing community…. Gotta “know a guy”. This was a fun watch. Appreciate you man.
Cool video
I fish simular spots in the spring 9" sluggos are great in skinny water as are the redfins

It is so cool to get a blow-up in a quiet stream.

There’s places down here in Virginia that holds monsters every spring during the Herring run. Basically, it follows the Cherry blossoms blooming.
It is so cool how the plants are almost a better indicator than the time of year.
We say apple blossoms, spring peppers (frogs) here , but thats missing a Lot of fishing, @@StripedBassHunt
Shhhhhh

It seems you have the special innate sensor to find stripers :) Thanks for a very good video!!
Thanks! I get lucky and spend a lot of time on the water.
Finn, Do you remember what the date was? And was this place Plum Island area or Cape Ann one?
very unrelated question, I watch you're videos, great content. I was just curious do you kayak fish at all? Tight lines.
I haven’t fished out of Kayaks that much. But all of my friends that do catch really big fish!
Also for the larger fish up in those creeks it's better after dark
