- The Jade Sea Expedition was the most insane, most insidious, most daring, most epic roadtrip ever attempted in Kenya!
A 9 days' off-road adventure circumnavigating the Lake Turkana from its eastern shores into Ethiopia and to the western shores of Lake Turkana.
This 2,400kms off-road expedition took on the treacherous backroads of the Northern Kenya's most beautiful yet inhospitable landscapes and crossing into Southern Ethiopia and back to Kenya. Over 1,000kms of the trip was offroad!
After having made it to Koobi Fora successfully and without major drama, we proceed into Ethiopia. We get into a little drama of being stopped by 3 Land Cruisers full of soldiers, but that is quickly resolved.
We use Day 5 to rest our tired bodies, carry out repairs to 4 cars, shop, fuel up and explore Turmi Town and its villages.

The star of the trip is undoubtedly that Forester XT. Managed the trip despite the delicate CVT and even more delicate FA20 engine. Unbelievable.

I am totally impressed by the capabilities of the Subaru and the Xtrail. Can't believe they pulled off those kilometres successfully. The entire trip was epic!

amazing stuff. A little more details on the car issues, and how they were sorted would be nice. And also, the jimny, we know its there, quiet and perhaps the most capable, a little love for the underdog in the clips would be nice. Subaru and the xtrail did well too.

I believe with this you can earn some corporate sponsorship or the ministry of tourism can take advantage of your work and facilitate part of your trip for it might be more economical than hiring some people to do it.

We are overdue in linking Turkana county with Omorate Oromia with a tarmac Road
Indeed! Ethiopia has build roads everywhere past its border with Kenya. But us guys have not bothered. On the flip side, the region is the only remaining offroad challenge in Kenya after they graded Lake Ellis track.

I have been holding my breath for the Xtrail damn. The driver of the white prado J120 is a master. Lastly, I'd love to test the capabilities of a vanguard with this trip. It's a little beast.

Kudos nomads, thats some brilliant content of an unforgettable adventure, good tips and info, time to round up my adv squad and take notes,i'm an adventure junkie as well, i was more interested in the journey hiccups, makes it even more epic, Im a two wheels adv die hard i felt your trip was too 'comfortable' guess comfort of four wheels is particularly not my style, but understandable with bringing family along. Cradle of Mankind deffinitely on the bucket list on our calendar this year.

I hope that Fozzy carried enough race fuel for this trip because if not, detonation will be their friend. Seeing it’s a DIT… 💀.

Please consider adding more footage of the mechanical stuff for those of us who don’t really care for the travel & tourist bit but are thrilled by cars on rough terrain.
It had 3 (20l) jerry cans of fuel in reserve. Never ran out of fuel. It did exceptionally well. No one ran out of fuel. We were well prepared. Thank you so much for your kind words, feedback, and for watching and subscribing! 🙏🏼😁 We shall look at the mechanical stuff idea.
@@TheMaraNomads1920MN Saw the convoy topped up non-premium fuel severally along the way.
XT requires 91 onwards so on off road trips one’s upsides to carry race fuel to mix in w/ every other regular gas top up or else detonation occurs. That was the only concern I had w/ it.
I know the tripping bit is the main attraction but throw us some mechanical deets - The breakdowns, the bush repairs, etc. A small section of us would totally love it 😅.

😂The twigs were not ours. They belonged to an Ethiopian gent who was hanging outside on the side steps showing us the way out of their complicated village. The village had many exits.

I suggest that next it would be better if you have your technician and mechanic team with you
🙏🏼👊🏼Its quite costly to carry a mech with us. Guys are required to prepare their cars very thoroughly and to carry spares of things that are known or are likely to break down. Amongst us, we always have guys who know about vehicles and we do repairs ourselves. We also never lack mechs on the routes, but can lack spares on the areas we visit hence why we carry spares including alternators, starters, radiator caps, stabilizer links etc.

Hearing guys speaking fluent Kiswahili was so nice! But we were racing to cross the border back to Kenya. We had a very long distance still to cover before nightfall at that point. Plus cross a river that we were not sure it had water or not, and which had no bridge.
