Here's a few engie tips: Use incendiary compound on the PGL because the heat has no damage fallof, so with maximum blast radius you can ignite a whole pack when they are walking around on a wall at a weird angle and watch them all burn down before they get you.
Combine this with RJ250 and 1 area damage mod and it still works despite the dmg penalty and you end up with a lot of extra ammo and a faster reload + rocket jumping (you also do minimal self damage while rocket jumping because of the damage being turned into heat).
If using plascrete catalyst on shard diffractor, use dazzler module. The slowdown keeps them in range and also prevents them from walking onto the platform and blocking you from hitting it.
Neuro lasso slowdown makes it easy to line up multiple targets for super blowthrough rounds and can almost completely stop a dreadnaught from moving if you take the "more locks" mod.
Shard diffractor and breach cutter are bad against frozen targets (thaws them/doesn't get any dmg bonus), but hyper prop grenades smashes them to bits.
Don't use plasma burster grenades. Every other engie grenade does more work. The one thing PB has is that the effect comes out fast, but that still doesn't solve many of the problems in which speed matters.
A MUCH better strategy for those situations is to use the dash perk. It recharges fast and it can and will save your ass in so many situations, especially if you jump just before the speed boost runs out to get a long jump out of it.

The only thing wich is true for almost every shooter game is to move constantly. It works for me in Doom, it works for me in Titanfall 2, it works for me in DRG. I would say, that movement and control over your surroundings is much more important than accuracy or damage.

There is precisely one game where I find this to be untrue, WWZ the game. Standing still and taking your shots accurately and consistently are the best way to handle a horde. You can't outmanoeuvre them, they are faster and more numerous. Moving around increases friendly fire chance in that game too.

I see a lot of my friends and people in videos struggling to dodge trijaws, so a quick tip that has helped me very consistently dodge them: walk towards them. Not away, not left, not right, straight at them. The middle shot goes over your head, and the left and right one whiff. Not always viable when getting swarmed, but realizing that has saved me a LOT

Such a heavy emphasis on Solo survival as the metric for build success seems shortsighted. For example: if you need to defend a location, a build with heavy emphasis on mobility and burst damage, will not fair nearly as well in the cramped zone and constant trickle of enemies. It could be overrun or endanger teammates.
More than that, what the team needs from you is not always clutch swarm survival. If a build is designed to quickly and efficiently strip the map of minerals and get the objective done. It can be extremely powerful for team survival as cutting a mission time down by even just 5 minutes could mean dozens or even hundred of fewer enemies encountered especially when you consider that Nitra and red sugar is a finite resource and enemy spawns ramp in intensity with game duration. If you die to a late game swarm consider if your team could have been done with the mission and safely on the pod several minutes ago if only the rest of the mission had been paced more quickly.
It also makes selecting for utility perks like field medic pretty much impossible.

    Good vid for the greenbeards!
This "start with impossible" strategy is the best. I learned it LONG ago when trying to beat (i think) Soul Caliber 3 on its hardest. I played for an hour strait of 1v1s against an AI with max game speed and damage and whatever...basically you have half a second before you are one-hit. When I got to the point that I could survive long enough to just see what could be called a fight, I went back to the campaign...it was a JOKE how easy everything was, I was fighting snails.
This is similar in DRG. Fight the impossible then all the non-EDDs you play will feel super casual.

This will slow a whole swarm when used in small controled bursts also give them dmg over time on all of them do to elcetro jumping. Then PGL with 21122 rj-250. This is once again is for dmg over time with fire and being able you just forceable relocate yourself is invaluable. After preforming your test haz 5 point ex on hollow bough, my time 9;28, helped in no small part by making high level plateforms that you can jump from and to but bugs can't. If you jump form one place to the next it takes up to 30 secs for bugs to get to you from your other spot. The thing thta killed me was a spitballer that I didn't see :p my build was guns as above axe 13, PG 212, lure, armor 1111, and sweet tooth, vamp, strong arm, dash and iron will which I did not use for test sake. also using a lure right out of the drop pod gives you 20 secs of brething room at the start.

So much valuable information here man, thanks for this comment.
Jumping from high platform to high platform is probably the smartest, most effective way to stay alive from melee enemies. They just can't get to you fast enough. This is exactly what I was hoping people would figure out themselves. Your a beast man.
Also "being able to just forcibly relocate yourself is invaluable" is something a lot of people could learn from. It's not always about damage, it's often about staying alive. Movement is so important.
      Well done man✌

    as Veteran Dwarf:
    > Dash perk for everyone except for scout is key. Medic perk is bomb as well.
    > Remember about escape routes and never corner yourself. Knowing surrounding is most important thing. Keep more in open areas and not in tight cave tunnels unless you know what you doing.
    > When I try new build, I gradually testing it with each hazard up to 5. But I got comfortable with game so I just jump into haz 5. I think haz 5 can be harder than edd but can screw yourself if your build is too situational (pure boss build for example) although didn't find much trouble with that because TEAM can help with your weakness.
    > as *Scout*, use grappling hook. As *Gunner*, use zipline to escape horde and somewhat float at top. As *Engineer* and *Driller* keep running in large circle, create your own path if need to.
    > As horde starts, as *Driller* try to make large space, you can make large pits on walls with C4 so it would force enemies to walk on edges (easier to focus kills).
    >*Engineer* platforms is nice roof and with mod can help to force horde to change pathways for team to focus on, mostly I put turrets behind the line to protect our back walls.
    >Scout sticks to team *Gunner* or *Driller* and takes out mostly fliers and spitting enemies first, don't forget about LIGHT.
    >As *Gunner* using zip above team position can be helpful. *Gunner* can save with SHIELD, new player tend to forget about it unless you scream into microphone. 4 gunner with constant shield is meta.
    > Best class to save everyone is scout with medic perk, I also use Iron Will with him as well.
    > *Engineer* is easy to clear swarm from fallen dwarf but I noticed they tend to die quick even tho they have same hp as everyone else is
    > *Driller* dies most cause of his close combat playstyle, I tend to jump around enemies so they move slower because I set them on fire/ice/poo. I would stick close to gunner or engineer.
    > Preventing getting all team down is also great idea, sticking together would be good unless your teammate running into a obvious trap so I would defend them from a far.

Edit: I will note that sometimes, fully building for solo and relying on a complete build made for solo could leave you missing critical components when you adjust for MP. The biggest example would be active perks. If you run, say, Heightened Senses + Dash solo but want Field Medic for multiplayer, you'll need to adjust for going without either Heightened Senses or Dash.

In my experience with getting better at anything over the years, and especially at video games, sustained immersion, or at least, immersion achieved more quickly, is the uncontested most important factor...
...so I'm not a fan of the "no Bosco" suggestion. I'd rather have infinite lives, and maybe also a button that clears any currently alive enemies while simultaneously starting a fresh swarm.
Time spent not playing is time spent not learning, and you're not playing when you're
    - waiting on bad load times (if your hardware is poor) or
    - waiting on long animations telling you that you lost (which are also discouraging) or
    - navigating through some menus to choose the settings for the next attempt (because they're usually not saved in some way, and entering them again is always slower than it needs to be).
I absolutely agree with both the modular approach of "build the fundamentals first", and the old well known method of "increase the difficulty a little bit at a time" (which could have been included in this video as a suggestion to start the movement/other training on h3 or h4), but I can't imagine something like practicing movement would benefit much by having players sit through so much downtime in between time spent practicing. Sure, it's important to stop and tweak your build later on when you're assessing the efficacy of your loadout, but even then, you could just exit the mission manually when you feel it's time to do that, and it may take several failures before you're convinced that the problem is with the build rather than with your usage of it.
Punishing failure is never as helpful as rewarding success for people who already punish themselves so much for their failures, which will include anyone who is serious about becoming better at something. I don't want to imagine how bad I would be at programming if, back when I was a teenager teaching myself to program in binary in my head, I had been reprimanded and told "you're not allowed to run your code and see if it works until you learn to use an assembler and build it right", or any other obstacle which would have had me unnecessarily stopping and starting my productivity instead of keeping my flow.
I actually hope there's a "Bosco has infinite revive charges" sandbox mod (eventually, if there's not one already) for anyone who wants to speed up their learning experience. A mod to refill ammo at the press of a button would help, too, and there's a mission timer mod that people could use to keep track of how long they're staying alive without restarting the mission. The feedback of going down is helpful enough on its own even without players being kicked out of their training ground. Imagine being sent home from the gym, and told you can't come back for 15 minutes, every time you need to take a bathroom break...you'd never want to try finishing your set there.

Great video, my only quip is that you didnt mention the best reason to take Proxies. Like the Diller's Impact Axes, you can toss excess ones on the ground before resupplying, stage up a dreadnought arena (or other point to defend), then go pick up your extras you tossed and stage up another area. You get 2 from a resupply, so if you have 3 or 4, toss 1 or 2 down, respectively, where you can get them and bugs won't be likely to trigger them. If they get triggered, oh well, but it's something you can do to make them go even further.
Again, great video, I love the process and methodology and honestly had already tried beating my face into the Haz 5 brick wall in a similar manner, but was also not able to sit there and focus on it all day so I forgot about doing it until I saw this video xDx I think I had gotten up to about 4 minutes, messing around with a scout mostly on just trying to get used to increased sensitivity and spider-man-ing my way around the cave with momentum on the grappling hook. I wasnt shooting or anything, JUST getting used to the momentum and sensitivity increase.

This is more or less what I do for trying out new builds/practicing with specific weapons. I tend to go into 4 egg hunt missions on hazard 6 double enemies. You have a good amount of different types of terrain to test the new build in (starting room is usually the same, small hallways, a big cavern). If I want to test a builds ability to prevent getting overwhelmed, straight into either refinery or point extraction like you show here since there is a huge wave right off the bat. When testing specific things though I'll get the spawn menu mod. For example most recently I've been playing with fighting styles with the BRT electro mines. So I load up a mining mission and spawn 40 slashers in the starting room with me and try to kill them with just the electro mines BRT without using a tunnel or any advantageous terrain. If I win I spawn in 5 more, repeat until I can't win anymore. Then I focus on winning using less and less ammo, and taking fewer and fewer hits. Once I can win with no hits I go back to adding more enemies.

@@TheLegendOfFLG Here is an example of testing various primaries vs 60 slashers with the spawn menu mod. 60 is the most the vanilla game can spawn, so I figured if I can handle 60 haz 6 slashers with a primary, I can handle anything the vanilla game can throw at me. ruclips.net/video/u2eQ4cuATTk/видео.html.
Also something you allude to in your video but don't explicitly call out, when building I try to minimize the amount of attention I need to spend to kill something. That's not a stat that shows in the. In your first example with the trijaws, your conclusion was to focus on the ground and dodging rather than killing them, another alternative correct decision to come to is to find a way to dispose of them, or render them harmless for awhile without spending attention on them so you can spend your attention on the ground enemies. Later on in the video you develop the technique of blocking their sight lines with platforms which is one way to solve that issue. There are a lot of other ways you could solve that issue in your build, or you could load up the spawn menu mod and spawn 1 trijaw and practice dodging it, then add more. Anyway, point is, "attention span required to kill" an explicit parameter I think about when building, how much attention do I have to spend on specific special threats.

    Classic hipster build
    Special powder full damage shotgun
    Stunnsweeper
All the range upgrades for the frapple and the faster hook fly.
Double ammo for the Flare-Gun (1 duration one ammo is also viable but if you take double duration you actually loose out on seconds of lighting, trust me i did the math)
    Perks used:
    Deep pockets
    Resupplier
    Vampire
    Actives
    Iron will
    Heightened senses
Iron will + vampire essentially gives you 1 extra life.
be aware tho "Surviving" doesnt mean your able too clear out the hordes they will stack up and will fck you up, however i was still able too complete the objectives (not the point of the training but this heavily implies that i am able too pick up team mates with the shotgun and the sweepers, as i could also resupply mid waves and farm aquarq) by kiting too one side of the room then the other, if you get swarmed by neclosytes or macteras use the sweeper for easy kills.
The horde will stack up tho and past minute 20 there is no real hope for you killing the swarm, you can keep it down by clearing as much as possible but with this build you definetly wont kill them.

nice video. Really nice tip and way to practice that.
I would like to say survival isn't everything. You still need a decent damage output. Unless you are at the end of a mission, you probably need to actually clear out the waves so you can get back to your objective, and if you aren't killing stuff fast enough, its pretty endless (but your ammo is not).
Also, you can maybe do this as a team as well. In my mind, you want to specialize a bit - at least for me, it makes it more fun and unique to play the different classes.
I usually build my Engi & Gunner for maximum AOE to deal with the large sized swarms that is haz 5, while my scout is a sniper specialist, made to deal with Acid spitters, web spitters, menaces and flyers. Basically anything long range, single target threads that can take out other members of my party. Dealing with those allows the rest of my team to focus on the bulk of foes ahead of them and makes their life a lot easier.
but then again, i also die a lot as engi -_-

They have said that this probably won’t happen. A shooting range really can’t work because enemies have different health in each hazard level, so what information could be gained from a shooting range that can’t be gained by just jumping into a mission? The devs have also said that perks and weapons are not coded into the space rig so it would require you to load an instance, so at that point you might as just load into a mission

  • @cthulhuplus
    @cthulhuplus 3 года назад +1

Great video, only thing I really disagree with here is not including the turrets. The turrets are a huge part of the Engineer class and learning how to move around them, keeping them firing, and building them to fit your playstyle is pivotal for the Engineer class. It also means that there are at least 2 overclocks and one weapon build that you're completely ruling out, by not using them right off the bat. If you find yourself needing to set up your turrets mid fight, then you can use the quick build mod, OR you could pair building your turret using your spinning death safe space combo. Learning how to play without the turrets means that you're potentially going to have to learn how to play again with them.

    • @TheLegendOfFLG
      @TheLegendOfFLG  3 года назад +2

All that is true, the only thing having turrets off the bat does is make it take 3 times as long to figure out if you've got your movment down. Because your turrets will help kill things so efficiently that it simply takes longer before you run into trouble. Especially if you don't have your movement down. I've run with turrets and it just takes longer to learn some simple movement techniques. But that's why I incorporate it at the end, after you've got your movement down.
Second reason is to make you think about survival for your build. That's how I carry. Having a build that's more survival based then anything else with tons of practice without my turrets.
If you run with them, you will survive for longer making it seem like it's all your skill when really your turrets are getting easy kills making you live longer.
Third reason for no turrets is because having turrets in a solo is no where near the same level of intensity as haz 5 with 3 teammates down. Training is pointless when the training isn't similar to the real thing. And unfortunately without mods like 2x enemies, we have to work with what we have on console.
4th reason is because having your turrets when you have 3 teammates down and your trying to carry, is not going to rescue anyone. I Have tons of footage in elite deep dives of me being the only one up and even if I have ammo in the turrets it makes almost no difference unfortunately as you need your teammates to have the correct dps to make it through those high level missions. 1 dwarf on their own just simply isn't enough for certain difficulty levels when they scale to 4 dwarves. It's more about reviving and staying alive then what turret build you can get the most kills with.
Not to mention how many times my turrets have no ammo at all when my teammates are down. What are you going to do with no turrets in that situation. Well I know because I've trained for it and don't need to rely on them in order to save the mission and my teammates.
And the 5th reason is because once you have got your movement and survival rate down, tweaked your build appropriately, then the final step IS to incorporate your turrets.
Because of course they are a major part of being an engineer. But this is how to carry not a beginners course on the engineer.
And finally, if your not having any issues carrying in group haz 5s then you probably don't need this lol but for those who are, this is how I trained for it. This is how I learned to carry.
Thats all I can do is share what works for me and hope it works for others.
      Thanks for sharing friend✌
