      Musical probably didn't even have chords back them. Chordal harmony didn't really come around until about the 15th century. It just wasn't how they thought about music before that. They might harmonize a line but not usually in thirds or in ways that lead to major or minor tonality. I'm sure this was more than you wanted to know.

    Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk-not as unwise people but as wise- 16 making the most of the time, because the days are evil. 17 So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit: 19 speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music with your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of Christ.

    Michael: it sounds similar to a sitar. BJ Thomas sang a song 'Hooked On A Feeling' that featured one that sounds like this....

    • @m21sup
      @m21sup 6 лет назад +1

      The "sitar" effect you may hear is because he plucks the strings strongly, like with any stringed instrument. And what does that song has remotely to do with this?

    • @katherinesage
      @katherinesage 6 лет назад +1

      the timbre of the plucked string is what reminds me of the sitar - an instrument that had some feature in pop tunes of the 1960's - that is all....

    • @MichaelLevyMusic
      @MichaelLevyMusic  6 лет назад +5

      The sitar-like timbre is courtesy of the probably more authentic, flatter 'bench' topped bridge - similar to the lyre bridges still used on so many of the lyres still played throughout the African continent today, most notably, the Ethiopian begena. The Hebrew word for melody, pronounced 'zemer' could actually be onomatopoeic - could the actual word be derived from this same, sitar like buzz of an ancient Biblical lyre string? A fascinating possibility!

    The Psalms mention a few times that it is a gitteth being played from Gath. Where does the information that says it was an Egyptian lyre come from? It's a sincere question. I'm not trying to be contentious. I am doing research on the subject of the instruments King David and/or his musicians would have played.

    • @MichaelLevyMusic
      @MichaelLevyMusic  Год назад +5

      The Egyptian lyre was actually introduced into Egypt via Canaan - the Canaanite lyre inscribed on the Megiddo Ivory is almost identical to the ancient Egyptian lyre (I play a replica of an actual surviving Egyptian lyre preserved in Leiden). Either if David acquired his own lyre from Canaanite luthiers or crafted it himself,it would almost certainly have looked similar to these kind of asymmetrical lyres played throughout the region at about this time.

    • @jerrodlopes186
      @jerrodlopes186 Год назад +1

      @@MichaelLevyMusic most of my reading so far says that his lyre would have been of Phillistine design, but given what you have said and the knowledge you have I can see how it very likely goes as you say. Thank you very much for your help. I appreciate you very much.

      The strings are authentic, unpolished gut, not steel! The buzzy timbre is due to the flat topped bridge.

    This is beautiful, but there is some error about the instrument that King David played. i'm Israeli Jew and i do not understand why people think that king David played some kind of a Harp when it's clearly written in the Bible in the original Hebrew text that he played the Violin כינור, we do have Harps נבל mentioned in the Bible but not about King David, maybe it was an error in translation to other languages, or some scholars who thought they know better then the author of this text. there is a clear distinction in the Bible between this two instruments and if the author meant a Harp he could and would have written נבל but he did not, he wrote כינור Violin.

    • @MichaelLevyMusic
      @MichaelLevyMusic  9 месяцев назад +1

      Please distinguish between the meanings of modern Hebrew and the original Biblical Hebrew. The modern Hebrew word for violin is 'KNR' - whose original Biblical Hebrew name referred to the 10 string lyre of the Levites. The violin was not developed until the 16th century CE!
      'Harp' is a mistranslation from the original Biblical Hebrew meaning, which always referred to a type of lyre. There is no archaeological evidence of the harp ever being performed in any sacred context in Biblical Judea.

    The True Gospel for True Revival ! : Realize you are a sinner being sorry. Sin is lying, evil thoughts, lust, etc.Therefore, do not trust in your own works to go to heaven because you realize, being a sinner, you cannot offer the perfect blood sacrifice that God requires to pay for sin. Instead, believe, meaning fully trust, that in Christ's love for you, on the cross, His one perfect blood sacrifice; when Christ bled, suffered and died, in your place, paid for your sins in full, past, present and future ! Believe that Jesus rose from the dead ! Believe Jesus is God Almighty, God the Son, alive for evermore ! And believe that the sinless blood of Jesus Christ is what cleanses you from all sin, which purifies your soul ! Then the Lord Jesus will forgive you, save you from hell and give you eternal life, and you will be sealed with the Holy Spirit who will dwell within you forever ! And thank Jesus ! Rom.3:25,5:8,9,10:9, Rev.1:5, Ephes.1:7,13, 4:30, Heb.10:10-14,19,38,39,I John 5:7,13,20
