A new generation of Syrian children: the story of Yahya

“[My friends] talked to me about Syria. They were there, was erupted and Syria was destroyed and they told me they had a home there,” says Yahya.
He is a Syrian refugee born in Jordan.
“I thought of returning to Syria. I love it so much because I am Syrian,” he says.
For over a decade, Jordan has been a beacon of hope for hundreds of thousands of Syrians fleeing war. Today, the country hosts over 640,000 registered Syrian refugees, half of whom are children.
Since 2011, over 212,000 Syrian refugees have been born in Jordan.
The first generation of Syrian refugees knows no other home, a number that grows each month, with an average 120,000 new births registered in 2023.
