0:40 I love how in moments like this you never hear Gandalf take any blame for urging the company of Thorin Oakenshield to set out on the quest that forced Sauron to reveal himself.
Or for manipulating the whole scenario! Being a wizard, I wonder how much he could precog and see how each string would work out if he nudged one party, or the other, to do something. Maybe the wizards view it as some sort of chess game - them against Sauron.
You get that feeling, don't you? None of the wizards pay much attention to each other, and they do their own thing, which I wouldn't think would benefit ME at all.
Mia Tolliver Yeah and you know what, where are the two blue wizards during all of this?? Drop the pipes and get yo asses back here we got a dark lord to fight! haha
Missing in action, for sure! Everyone jumps on Thranduil for not being concerned about what happens to the mortal races, but the wizards are just as callous if not more so, using them as pawns.
I've got to say, I love that Peter Jackson made the Battle of Five Armies into an actual strategic move by Sauron rather than just a large rabble of angry goblins out for revenge. It ties things in with the events of Lord of the Rings much better. And Gandalf is right - Sauron holding Erebor would prove devastating, not only because it would leave the northmen of Rhovanion decimated, it would also cut off the Dwarves of the Iron Hills from everyone else and allow Sauron access to the Withered Heath, the Grey Mountains, Mount Gundabad, Angmar, Moria, Redhorn, Carn Dum and even Mount Gram and the Ettenmoors (where Bert, Tom and William came from). During the events of Lord of the Rings, Sauron is forced to divide his forces, sending some to attack Dale and Erebor, some to attack Mirkwood, some to attack Lorien and the rest to attack Gondor. Had Sauron succeeded in claiming Erebor during the Battle of Five Armies, he would not have needed to divide his forces so much, providing more support for his assault on Gondor and Lorien and he would have been able to set a larger garrison in Anorien to block Rohan's ability to come to Gondor's aid. He may even have been able to send a large force into Rohan to aid Saruman in destroying the Rohirrim at Helm's Deep.
not to mention that, as gandalf said, erebor is the gateway to the realm of angmar and if sauron succeeded, angmar would come back and do more damage to the north, making sauron's conquest of middle-earth in LOTR all too easy.
It also goes along with Sauron's actual original plans, as Tolkien has Gandalf detail in Unfinished Tales. "I thought then, and I am sure now, that his original plan was to attack Lorien and Rivendell as soon as he felt strong enough. It would have been much better for him, and much worse for us. You may think Rivendell was beyond his reach, but I did not think so. The state of things in the North was very bad." ( from this point out, I'm paraphrasing, but very closely ): "The only thing standing between Sauron and retaking the old lands of Angmar were the dwarves of the Iron Hills, and behind them lay a desolation and a dragon. The dragon Sauron might use with terrible effect" All of this was why Gandalf wanted to attack Dol Guldur, and it did at least have the effect of changing Sauron's plans.
Got to wonder how Gandalf pissed Thranduil off in the past to make him react like this. Did he mis-predict some calamity? Nick some pretty gemstone and give it to a dwarf? Shag Legolas?
In fact, didn't the book make a indirect mention to the Dwarves of Nogrod's attack on Dorath for the Simarils? So Thranduil has a old reason to not care much for the dwarves. He also may have been there when the Noldor under Feanor's sons attacked Dorath and killed Dior, Beren's son and Thingol's successor.
@popasmuerf Thranduil is by no means an isolationist. He has made everyone his allies including Dwarves of Erebor (after battle of five armies), Dale, Lake-Town, Woodme Dorwin, Beorn, and many more. Thranduil has a lot of dealings with the outside world. He prioritizes his own people first but he's also a savvy politician. If anything, it's Lorien that's an isolationist kingdom. Galadriel and her fancy ring and their lands made them completely independent. Thranduil doesn't hate the Noldo. By all accounts, Thranduil seems to be on good terms with Elrond and founding members of White Council. He welcomed Aragorn to his halls, kept Gollum at bay and sent his own child as a representative to Elrond's council. Thranduil had seen the consequences of needless spite against Noldo. His own father fell in War of Last Alliance because he didn't heed Gil-galad's warning which led to the deaths of two-thirds of silvan elves. Thranduil had to bear the loss. I can't see why a wise rule like Thranduil would withdraw himself after having to witness such things. In the movies, there are also strong hints of his good relationship with other kingdoms. Movie-Thranduil fought in Angmar alongside Elrond and other Noldo and lost his wife there. He is also aware of Aragorn's identity and even knew Arathorn in person. He helps Bard, he aids Dain in battle. No matter, what media you're looking at, Thranduil is not an isolationist.
@popasmuerf I don't see how that means Thranduil hates the Noldo or the dwarves. He clearly doesn't. There is no clue in Tolkien's works that Thranduil is any more distant than other elven lords.
How that war should have looked like, honestly: Orks: *prepare to battle* ATTACK!!! Dwarves: *grab their weapons* VICTORY!!! THEY SHALL PAY! Thranduil: ... *stands in the middle, legendary eye-roll of boredom, drops his silver robes, sexy pose: ON* Everyone: *drowns in the endless ocean of their nose-blood*
I kinda hate how ambivalent Bard acts in the movies. In the book, he was a boss who argued with Thorin so amazingly. Kind of a shame because movie-Bard was awesome otherwise. They just had to give him more guts.
"Rivendell, Lorien, The Shire... even Gondor itself will fall!" Well, apparently not Mirkwood! Totally do not need to be bothered because "other lands are not of my concern" :P
If other lands weren't his concerns, he would have let Bard's people die and he would have left Dain to fight the orcs by himself. Thranduil cares about other lands but he prioritizes his own people over others like any good king would.
i just can´t help but loving Thranduil getting annoyed of Gandalf within the very first sentences he spoke and then totally trying to ignore him like "I´m immortal, I have no problems..."
Thraundil is wild, he is a warrior not peacemaker, look how the forest elves behaved-they were aggressive, Lady Galadriel's elves were not aggressive, sharp but not agressive, while Elrond's elves were gentle (for elves that were beating) King Thraudil has the status of a king like Galadriel only she used the title of Lady, Thraudial is wild, Thraundil is isolated and wild, but intelligent, the forest elves were not as intelligent as others, but the king is Sindar and has a higher status let's not forget that he lives in a dark forest, this is King of Mirkwood, he's just wild (notice that he gave the wine to Bard first, then to himself, but he didn't give Gandalf, he knows good manners but he doesn't like wizards, he didn't even cooperate with other elves, except his own, he is very wild and lonely) and old, he has 6500 years as much as Elrond and remembers that Thranduil didn't want the swim to elves lands :)
I love how PJ and the writers made The Battle Of The Five Armies feel like the very first huge battle which starts off the War Of The Ring, and I like how it sort of becomes like a great historic event in the legend of Middle-Earth as opposed to just a big battle at the end of the story.
It’s like Gandalf is the parent talking to his two kids. Thranduil is the son who has heard the speech a thousand times and doesn’t take it seriously while Bard is the one listening to what Gandalf is saying but is confused and concerned at the same time 😂. I just love Thranduils response when Gandalf says they r in mortal danger. It was like he was scared of what Gandalf would do cuz he wasn’t paying attention. But that’s just my take
They nailed the little things in these movies. Such as Thranduil, king of the woodland elves, pouring a glass of wine and handing it to Bard, de facto leader of some refugees. Later on he also rides side by side with him during negotiations. The respect is real.
Thranduil's just like "I need someone to help me with this otherwise I'm going to down this whole bottle and become unbearably drunk listening to this wizard."
When is Thranduil getting a tv series or something! His faces in every scene resembles my faces😂😂 and that’s where Legolas gets his face making from! For real Thranduil deserves to be played again by Lee Pace and go back in time to at least from when his father was on the throne.
It amazes me that a king would act on the same level as a outright peasant. He pours a glass to drink and hands it to the bard before making his own. It's quite amazing to be honest.
that's one of the signs of a great leader. just because elves can live forever doesn't put them above humankind. thranduil respects bard, another leader, as his equal.
whatever Thranduil does he is elfish and fabulous 😂 0:07 Thranduil is like -"pff Mithrandir the old man begins to prophesy and snot again" 0:16 Gandalf is like -"pfff Thranduil starts your 'wisdom' again" 😂 they are both understanding to each other 😂😂😂😂

***** hahaha....true that !!!!! Now that I think about it, maybe Thranduil needed a sip or two to find the courage to fight Thorin Oakenshield.
Who said that u cant bloody drink before fight?Real madafucking dwarf can be dead drunk, hiting floor every 2 secs but still, let he in to fucking battle and he will solo 10 trolls at once
Mia Tolliver like Cinemasins said; Middle-Earth is like Gandalf's own personal doll house haha
Sprinter1988 It's crazy to think about it like that.
like the idea
not to mention that, as gandalf said, erebor is the gateway to the realm of angmar and if sauron succeeded, angmar would come back and do more damage to the north, making sauron's conquest of middle-earth in LOTR all too easy.
0:10 Thranduil is clearly taking the piss out of Gandalf here HAHAHA
I love that look he exchanges with Bard as Gandalf talks. Like "whatEVer"
Thranduil faces are so funny!!
I've always find it kind of awesome that elves and men are the first join forces before anyone else.
Lmao, that smug flirty smirk he's giving Bard at 0:10 got me laughing. Thranduil is the biggest troll.
lmao Thranduil his sass is amazing
0:20 not very generous with your wine there, Thranduil
It's Elvish wine. Super expensive and super potent. Bard can't handle it.
Thranduil's fabulousness offends me.
How that war should have looked like, honestly:
Orks: *prepare to battle* ATTACK!!!
Dwarves: *grab their weapons* VICTORY!!! THEY SHALL PAY!
Thranduil: ... *stands in the middle, legendary eye-roll of boredom, drops his silver robes, sexy pose: ON*
Everyone: *drowns in the endless ocean of their nose-blood*
*is on the boat* good thing i bought a boat in case
Good, good, good. Now to find dry land on that endless ocean of blood and corpses floating in it...
ok then use your wings to make the boat move faster and go where the floating popcorn it might be land there ?
Queen MeowTigeress XD Sounds like a plan, bro!
why did I laugh...
Bard did not "chat"...he just stay silent near by like poor relative :D
Bard is like me when i'm around relatives I haven't seen in 20 years. XD
I kinda hate how ambivalent Bard acts in the movies. In the book, he was a boss who argued with Thorin so amazingly. Kind of a shame because movie-Bard was awesome otherwise. They just had to give him more guts.
"Rivendell, Lorien, The Shire... even Gondor itself will fall!"
Well, apparently not Mirkwood!
He is immortal, but he can die in battle. Elves can get killed. They just don't die of disease or old age like humans.
mithrandir, the alex jones of middle earth.
ThumbsHunter 😂😂😂👍🏿
Lmao 😂
Thrandy:"I see you know nothing of wizards"
Bard: are you sure? look vingadium leviozarrrrrrr?!
0:07 "fucking wizards"
0:25 "fucking elves"
Thranduil is like:''Wine for me,wine for Bae and no wine for Gandalf, bye!'' Sorry, couldn't resist,I'm a Barduil shipper xD
Bae? You mean to say Bard is Thranduil's bae?
@@tiaaaron3278 it's actually what he/she said

OMG ❤️❤️😍 Thranduil 😍😍 is Beautiful
Thraundil is wild, he is a warrior not peacemaker, look how the forest elves behaved-they were aggressive, Lady Galadriel's elves were not aggressive, sharp but not agressive, while Elrond's elves were gentle (for elves that were beating) King Thraudil has the status of a king like Galadriel only she used the title of Lady, Thraudial is wild, Thraundil is isolated and wild, but intelligent, the forest elves were not as intelligent as others, but the king is Sindar and has a higher status
let's not forget that he lives in a dark forest, this is King of Mirkwood, he's just wild
(notice that he gave the wine to Bard first, then to himself, but he didn't give Gandalf, he knows good manners but he doesn't like wizards, he didn't even cooperate with other elves, except his own, he is very wild and lonely)
and old, he has 6500 years as much as Elrond
and remembers that Thranduil didn't want the swim to elves lands :)
I love how PJ and the writers made The Battle Of The Five Armies feel like the very first huge battle which starts off the War Of The Ring, and I like how it sort of becomes like a great historic event in the legend of Middle-Earth as opposed to just a big battle at the end of the story.
I'm gonna be honest, I haven't payed attention to a single word that came out Gandalf's mouth, I was too fixed on gawking at Thranduil.
Thranduil at 0:08 and 0:11. Hilarious!
0:08 ~ Can totally tell he's trying to not roll his eyes!
But I gotta admit, everybody wants to see the elvenking do an eyeroll! XD
I just love Gandalf's "here we go" look XD
It’s like Gandalf is the parent talking to his two kids. Thranduil is the son who has heard the speech a thousand times and doesn’t take it seriously while Bard is the one listening to what Gandalf is saying but is confused and concerned at the same time 😂. I just love Thranduils response when Gandalf says they r in mortal danger. It was like he was scared of what Gandalf would do cuz he wasn’t paying attention. But that’s just my take
"Open war is upon you, whether you risk it or not." -Aragorn
Thranduils face. He's like oh for fuck sake shut up Gandalf. And bards like god help me the Wizards being delusional
Thranduil: These orc armies you speak of, Mithrandir, where are they?
Gandalf: I- on their goddamn way I just told you wtf
0:04 when someone brings up politics at dinner.
mmm..Lee pace. my crush
billsvik mine too..
@@LoneWolfLuna28 And yet he did not pour Gandalf any. Lol!
i love thranduil very much seriously
No one beat Thranduil by the look and charisma
When is Thranduil getting a tv series or something! His faces in every scene resembles my faces😂😂 and that’s where Legolas gets his face making from! For real Thranduil deserves to be played again by Lee Pace and go back in time to at least from when his father was on the throne.
It amazes me that a king would act on the same level as a outright peasant. He pours a glass to drink and hands it to the bard before making his own. It's quite amazing to be honest.
It's basic hospitality. And it shows that Thranduil doesn't see himself as above Bard, also a leader within Laketown.
Yeah but this is a dude that can almost live forever showing the same gratitude as someone on his level which he really isn't and not batting an eye.
that's one of the signs of a great leader. just because elves can live forever doesn't put them above humankind. thranduil respects bard, another leader, as his equal.
Besides, Bard killed a dragon,, quite a feat
the look on Gandalf at 1:26 "Oh god, this elf king is too damn stubborn"
whatever Thranduil does he is elfish and fabulous 😂
0:07 Thranduil is like -"pff Mithrandir the old man begins to prophesy and snot again"
0:16 Gandalf is like -"pfff Thranduil starts your 'wisdom' again" 😂
they are both understanding to each other 😂😂😂😂
They really did a great job. Even most book readers tend to ignore/apologies for how Thranduil inserted himself in to the situation.
POV: You are Bard. Bard really wishes elves and wizards came with built in translators.
just can't stop seeing this video
Lee Pace would've made a beautiful Loki
Thranduil's arrogant calmness and deep voice are maddening...much like Darth Vader's!
Gandalf: Rivendell, Lorien, the Shire, even Gondor itself will fall!!
Thranduil: ....So Mirkwood just doesn't exist. Got it.
hahahaha what an eye expression 0:10
Hes soo prettyyyy💜💜💜
0:07 sassy elveking
0:11 cute doesn't-give-a-fuck face ever.
They way he says Mithrandir.
years later and I realize that Lee Pace is bi, Luke Evans is gay, and of course Ian Mckellen is gay. This is the MLM tent.
