Mesa Boogie JP-2C JP2C vs Mark IIC++ IIC+ comparison sound demo showing

- Comparing the old vs new. Both are just crushing and ferocious as jp says.
Compared both ch2 and ch3 against the iic++.
I must say the eq has different response. To dial in the scooped sound of the jp2c, had to really put the iic++ to a big V eq.
In terms of tightness, the jp-2c wins. In terms of crushing gain the iic++ wins and its tightness is just right.
You would have more flexibility with jp-2c of course with separate eq and midi etc etc.
I did not try the shred mode though as it really changes the sound of the jp-2c.

For practical reasons I'd much rather the JP2C. The differences tone wise are splitting hairs and you get so much more with the JP2C. For collectibility, the 2C+ for sure. Most people that paid a steep price for their beloved 2C+ will always be bias and say it sounds better when really both can be dialed in nearly the exact same.
I agree with your statement.
You’re absolutely right. People who pay those insane prices are obviously going to justify why they paid said prices lol. The tonal differences are minimal.
@@nickyounger1368 Yep, Tone snobs are definitely a thing. What ever amp they have that you don't is always going to be better than what you have.
@@ShredHeads Its amusing to read some of the absurd things they say lol
@@nickyounger1368 😂 Yep, always some excuse / description of what their amps sounds like and how theirs sounds way different and much better. Never a decent video or audio comparison which would probably prove them wrong. These guys are the kings of form sites.
Well those two chords sound awesome.
Great video!! Freakin brutal amps!!
My C+ was killer. I think I may be remembering it more fondly these days, but I remember the tone being a bit sweeter than my JP2C, which is just a beast. I love the modern features of the JP, which gives it a bit of an advantage over the C+ IMHO.
They both sound great (like a mark series does) but the IIC++ sounds bigger and organic in its only way. Raw metal tone.
Ken Erlan yep i agree
The mark IIc+ gain always sounds amazing. Like it just wants to kick you in the balls.
mloiaco true
Thanks for this comparison! For once it seems the Reissue Amp is actually brighter than the Original. I know it’s definitely the opposite when it comes to Rectifiers, The Modern 3 Channel Recs sound like they have a blanket over the speaker when compared to a 1992 Rev F 2 Channel. I’m glad they did this one some serious service.
hahaha, your clip sounds really good though. Keep it up!!. I actually just bought one yesterday, and it sounds pretty good.
Enjoy!
i like how when you're playing the amp makes the phone vibrate. true effect lol
thanks
I owned both the IIC+ and JP2C. I sold the IIC+.
The EQ or Presence on the JP2C sounds like it’s set a LOT higher/brighter than the C++.
It really changes the comparison
If you boost the 2200 slider on the C+, it’ll get even nastier sounding
leosun8469 from what i observe the eq responses are indeed different.particularly the 2nd and 3rd slider. I would say the jp2 has more abrupt changes to the sound as you move the sliders.

Interesting- and good information to know.
The really cool thing is that the JP2C definitely sounds like it captures the true essence of a C+
Cool comparison! You should mic these up someday.
That tone is killer. Any pedals? What speaker cab? What tuning?
No pedals. You dont need it. Cab is mesa boogie traditional with v30s.
That more scooped sound of the JP2C is the tubes, throw the preamp tubes they provide through the window, equip it with something they used back then and it sounds way more like an original. Hated that on mine, too. An old unused longplate 12AX7 in the V5 decompressed and descooped the sound quite nicely, and in V3 the switch to a nos tube helped quite nicely, too. That would cure some of the overly tight and kinda bit liveless sound
Kuro Zumi thanks for your suggestions!
Interesting. Looking forward to trying this. Did you change only the preamp tubes? or power to STR415s as well?
@@Lordiesel As for now, i only changed the preamp tubes, got a 60s RCA in V1, a chinese 8th gen in V2, a 70s RFT in V3, a 70s RFT in V4 and a Sylvania Military Longplate in V5. Got all of them on ebay. Bought one at a time, anytime there was one at a good price, i pulled the trigger.
Most of what bugged me about the JP2C i got rid with a swap of V5 and V3. V5 quite decompressed it and got rid of that hollow and equally scooped midrange. Since it's a bit less compressed that way, you get more punch in exchange, too.
V3 especially got rid of that sizzly top end, V4 was like V3, but the difference wasn't as pronounced as with the change of V3. The V3 change made the reverb sound a little darker, too. Changing the V1 made it sweeter, especially the clean channel, and the V2 made it a tad clearer. That's what i remembered, my poweramp tubes are stock right now, but i want to swap them, too. STR415 would be amazing, but they are far to expensive, i want to try TAD 6L6GC-STR quad (Tube Amp Doctor), they should be a good modern clone/equivalent of the STR415s.
And as far as the amp goes, don't know how the JP-2Cs differ from the first ones. I've got a 2016 limited version (the one with the red front and the gunmetal plate) without the loop mod. Hope that helps in any way. Don't get me wrong, the stock tubes work, but at least to my ears, they sound pretty one dimensional, flat, lifeless, hollow and shrill.
Sorry but that's placebo effect you're hearing.
@@Ignore14 or you are deaf.
Im surprised the difference is so noticible.. Will Mesa ever create a more accurate rerelease of the C+? Maybe its impossible, or they simply dont want to. Both sound good though!
I think you should sell your 2c+ to me and get another Jp2c...
ken masters hehe
What power and preamp tubes are you running on both amps?
OfficialSNMvids mesa tubes
Dude , learn how to cover the strings so it doesn't ring
Yes still working on it…
JP-2C or the Badlander? not sure which one to get
With the strings as slack as they are here it dosen't really make much of a difference, they both sound the same.Rumble.
