As an HGV driver, I remember the old single track road being a 40mph speed limit for us guys and having poor car drivers sat behind us for miles and miles, risking life and limb trying to get past us. I bet many folks don't know planning permission was granted to dual the a30 way back in the 80s. But due to the usual tree huggers, was knocked back time and time again. I often wonder how many injured people or even life's lost, that could have been avoided? It reminds me of the a66 between the a1 and the M6 at penrith. Planning permission was granted for that in the mid sixties and it's STILL no closer to being dualed. Good footage, by the way.
Thank you for making these drone flyby videos of the A30. I worked on the project from July 2022 and June 2023 and love seeing how the project has progressed since I left. It has changed completely.
Great video, clearly shows the route and surrounding area to get a better idea of the layout etc. I've added your channel, always good to connect with other drone channels.
Thanks, it is indeed good to connect with other drone channels. Sometimes you do feel you're all alone doing the same thing here on RUclips. Any hints and tips are always appreciated
Great video and music, subscribed! I travel up and down between Bristol and Helston nearly every week for many years, so I’m looking forward to the A30 dual carriageway opening up on this section. The drive through Truro via the A39 is ok but I’m getting curious to see how much time the alternative to bypass Truro takes off my regular journey.
the current arrangement is just for works access I would guess, no sign of permanent access there on the preferred route section C diagram on nationalhighways
There does look to be space for an acceleration/deceleration lane, it just hasn't been built yet. I think they might be cutting corners to get this "open" by next month
@@droning-about It was to do with what was shown on the 3D model. Masons had to build to the alignment they were told to do. We all thought it was mad.
The last time I was there was 5 years ago just before I moved away from the area. Ahhh, the "fond" memories of many times sitting in traffic jams at the Chiverton roundabout and the Zelah bypass on those stupid short stretches where the 3 lanes went back to 2 😖 Just out of interest, what drone are you using?
"Fond" is very much one word for it! This was done on a Mini 4 Pro. You have to push it hard to do this. I'm thinking of doing this with the Mavic next time, can maintain a much higher cruising speed. Irritate less people with the chase car 🤣
@@droning-about Reason for asking which drone was that I was wondering if were using a mini or something bigger due to the flight time, I'm guessing it was complaining about battery level by the time it got back. BTW, I use the mini 4 pro myself, my problem is I have a lot of FRZ's in the area I now live & finding interesting stuff is difficult. Keep up the good work.
So the new dual carriageway is the new road, the old A30 road will remain but be realigned. So technically it's the A30 that's being realigned to replace the old one. I'm getting myself tied up here. National Highways call it an upgrade, I'll go with that 😁
Quick question, how did you work with the CAA VLOS rules on this? I was under the impression GVC and A2CofC both still limit you to a max of 500m distance and still require VLOS? I wasn't aware the CAA had addressed BVLOS yet? Are you travelling with the drone or are there edits?
Thanks for the question, I did make a note about this on the previous one, we have a chase car that's a convertible that follows from just behind the camera. The lack of traffic on the carriageway is because we are only doing about 15 m/s. Sometimes we hold a few cars up, however luckily people seem to be very understanding. On earlier videos when the alignment of the roads was too great, editing had to be used as well as flying the road when closed.
I think they could do it, but I suspect finishing up is going to take its time. They may open it with just a single lane each way until they finish the access roads, bridges and other infrastructure needed to make this a dual carriageway
@@gary63693 Major closure concentrated on Carland next week 3/6-7/6 overnights and 7/6-10/6 weekend full, they'll do a hell of a lot then. On ad Off slips Westbound the biggest hurdle. The rest is done bar the top coat and white lining. There was a rumour that they might try to open on 10/6
Shows how far off target they are. Its become a embarrassment to Cornwall this project. 8 miles of road, and its going on and on and on with no end in sight.
Hate the tiny forests left very close to the roads, which are prisons to wildlife. All as that does is encourage wildlife which is in danger of being flattened.
They have installed a green bridge, however there are a lot of deer around here, I suspect there may be a few poor animals that will suffer unfortunately
This has been such a nightmare to drive thru for about two years, I drive to Penzance once a month….i have seen signs saying that the work will be completed in June this year, sorry but I can’t see that completion date…..⛔️🚫🚳❗️

Great vid, seen all the works being done when to see my parents . Needed doing tho . Thank mark
Thank you Droning About for this video, 🙏
Pleasure, as the weather improves I'm hoping I can provide an update again soon
Thanks for the post!
Great video, good to see in daylight after delivering asphalt there at night in the 1st week in June.
Hopefully you'll see later today where you delivered the asphalt, I've done a quick mini update
i actually found this very relaxing to watch lol
Beautiful music great voice 👍👍👍
Can you please film the new A249 improvements ? Thank you 🙏
When is the next update coming boss? I’ve heard rumours that they’re opening it on the 17th?
Terrific music.
At 6:03 please tell me that the white house on the left hand side don't have instant access to the NEW A30? The white lines says yes
Good point, I hope not, that will cause accidents galore
Well if you look at the fresh tarmac infront of the house you see it goes from solid to broken ------ to solid again.

Any mid June drone flight update at all? Spoke to the security guy and was told they are trying to get it finished by the end of June
Yes I'm hoping to do one this week coming
@@droning-about Fantastic news. Thank you in advance
When will the a30 be completed
Mid June to open the main carriageways apparently
Never understood why they didn’t just build the M5 to Penzance rather than terminate it at Exeter for traffic to end up using old roads? 🤷♂️

Is it an upgrade or brand new road ? Where is it

It's a dual carriageway bypass of the existing A30. The A30 will run along the new road and the old road will be realigned and renumbered.
@@theslayeroforyx3546 you've put it in a much better way than me 🙂
What a Paradox - A Great Feat of Engineering but Such a Scar on the Beautiful Landscape 🥴
Paradox indeed
The old road rolls with the land, this new one has just distroyed a good drive, rip Cornwall countryside

@jagoIeuanarcher8912 It's not just the surfacing. It's the solid wall central reservation that's missing on quite a lot of it
