Oops… it has been pointed out to me by a friend, that the Beeb have withdrawn the whole episode of their first Director-General's Face to Face from RUclips, and just left a few minutes here that fit their self-serving purpose. But I fortunately have the full episode in my video library. And John Reith is asked what he thinks is the ideal form of government. And he answers - quite seriously, after pausing a moment for thought - "despotism, tempered by assassination". Shocking censorship here on RUclips. I see the hand of The Establishment at work here.
Any chance of putting all this on? Reith is a fascinating man and I'd love to hear the whole interview. He's always worth listening to!
