Since November 29, 2016, France's local police have been allowed to carry semi-automatic 9 mm pistols, just like their counterparts from the national police force. This decision was taken following the July 2016 terror attack in Nice, in which 86 people lost their lives. But some local police forces, such as those in the western city of Nantes, have decided not to follow the trend. Our colleagues at France 2 report.

It’s so funny watching this in America like how this is a big deal in France lmao
Even watching from Australia I have a similar response.
And I find it ridiculous that civil servants carry guns. How can a police force gain respect and communicate with their audience, if they rely on weapons and act with brute?
@@janoveurheim2270 Not the point of carrying weapons at all. The point is to stop a deadly threat if they need to. Police in the U.S. don't draw their guns at a routine traffic stop.
every American ever: "told you so"
More like "about time" lol
That is only because Americans have had an african problem longer than France.
@@TheAdekrijger africa has been their owb problem since the beginning. we never obducted our slaves once.
most gun loving Americans have more firepower than Municipal Police in France lol
What do you expect it’s the municipal not the Gendarmerie 😭
I always thought all Police in France were armed. I am surprised some local Police are like most UK Police
45 hours ? I do that in a month .
5 hours training before being able to carry a gun ? WTF ?? I'm from French National Police and we trained 4 hours a week for 8 months. 5 hours are barely sufficient to learn how to hold and handle it properly. Can't imagine how they're able to teach that, accuracy, shooting from behind cover, from a prone / lying position, tactical and emergency reloading, and all the stuff you're supposed to know. Not to mention all the technical stuff like what type of rounds are or aren't stopped by certain types of material, legal situations in which you're allowed to shoot, etc...
I'm wondering if this is actually true, but if it is I'll certainly watch out for friendly fire while working with Municipal Police...
Practice shooting on the street
45 hours!
just listen carrefully
They said they used revolvers so that means they know how to use guns
@1960jefbot Oooh .. you sound a reasonable sort of chap .. With all that training in the U.S .. you'd think they would be able to make better decisions about who to shoot ! Being able to throw thousands of rounds down a range doesn't make you tactically aware or trained when to shoot . Nice bit of racist language at the end ...(Ex Met London firearms officer )
@1960jefbot That is disrespectful
Why would you equip them with bulletproof vests, but not a firearm? If you’re giving them a bulletproof vest that obviously means you think there is a risk of them getting shot at.
The bulletproof vest you see may be a stab vest. They fight more knives than guns.
@@justanothercayleb820 no not true Kevlar does very little against knives it’s not meant to stop a blade at all
@@blakedavis2447 I’ve heard that some vests double as ballistic and stab resistant vests but idk if they use them or not.
@@justanothercayleb820 I doubt a local cop has anything that fancy
Now who's the most advanced civilization I learned how to use a gun when I was 5 years old

People are disarmed in the face or terror. The state is to blame.

Land of anti gunners. Good luck 👍 ✌️. You’ll all need it.
Over 3 million guns in France .. Over 3 million hunting licences ... but here ... they don't go round shooting each other over arguments about garden hoses or parking spaces . ( Living in France Ex London Met firearms officer )
@@nigelwake306 According to Wikipedia, there are actually 12.7 million firearms in private possession. And that was in 2017; I assume the numbers have grown since then.
There are plenty of firearms legally in civilian possession in France.
surely this has nothing to do with the recent immigration, right?
