Since you have had it, and recorded this video, have you still used the exposed piece some more? If so, what sort of lifespan do you think this will have? As for dust and dirt in a car, well, you should see my Sorento. I certainly would never criticize anyone for that.
Pro Tip: Don't take the whole wad and start dragging it all over the place. Break off smaller chunks, and toss when it gets dirty. Does it stick to your skin?

Use dollar tree foam brushes on your vents with whatever cleaners. Works great. And Dewalts 20v portable vacuum is freaking awesome for your car!
