      Kids today won't understand- Alan Hansen was the godfather of modern punditry, he was seen as the authority on football analysis and there was nothing like him except him for about 2 decades since the 90s. Even if he came back now when so many others are trying to be like him, he'd still be the alpha.

      MOTD is dead. There's literally no need for it anymore. Both Sky and BT upload highlights shortly after matches finish and this show comes on far too late to bother anymore. Plus you don't have to wait for your favourite team's highlights.

    I think there was something ‘ iffy ‘ about the way he retired and the way he was treated . I am not sure that he particularly wanted to go , not in that manner and so suddenly anyhow . I don’t trust the BBC at all . Their track record in these matters is awful . Maybe he upset someone there by being brutally honest about something and they took offence and decided to punish him , I don’t know . But something was dodgy and not right about his sudden departure . He was their best pundit ever and extremely knowledgeable about the game . The program misses him and has gone down hill ‘ drastically ‘ since he left . There are now so many faults and issues with the show that sometimes I just can’t bear to watch it . They have ‘ Ruined ‘ the format over the years and messed about with things so much that it is almost unrecognisable from what it used to be . There used to be great ‘ fluidity ‘ in the highlights coverage of the games so that each match ‘ seamlessly ‘ started and ended so that it appeared that you had seen the entire game . Each match showed the kick off in both half’s and every time a goalkeeper saved and conceded a corner , the corner kick was shown and each time a player was fouled the resulting free kick was shown , plus each time a shot etc went wide , the resulting goal kick was shown , etc , etc .
    Nowadays there is no effort whatsoever to carefully edit the footage so that it appears that the game is ‘ flowing ‘
    naturally . How I miss the old Match of the Day . I Hate it now when you see a team press forward , get to the edge of the penalty area , have one of their players hacked down in a dangerous position and then the next second it cuts to the other team going forward at the other end . You don’t see what results from the first teams free kick . It shouldn’t matter if nothing comes from it and they mess it up . It should still be shown , It is all part of the game that adds to the enjoyment and excitement . They should cut out some of the endless , needless talk at the end of the game so that they can piece together the highlights and lows a bit better . Nowadays as many people are saying , the highlights they show are no different to what you can view on your phone or tablet . All bitty and badly pieced together . I like Lineker a lot but even he annoys me by the way he constantly gives clues away as to what is going to happen in the game . I am not sure he realises he is doing it but time and time again I can tell the outcome of a game by the subtle remarks and innuendos he makes at the start. Don’t they realise that many , many people purposefully tune in to watch the games because they haven’t heard the results yet .
    It is a real spoiler to give away strong clues at the beginning of many of the games . They never used to do that .
    I think overall though that Lineker is a good presenter and I think Shearer and Ian Wright are superb too but boy , the show does miss Alan Hansen .

    "You can't win anything with kids !"
    Will always remember him with this classic after United lost against Aston Villa on the opening day of the 1995-96 season. United actually went on to win the Premier League and FA Cup double that season with a team whose average age was 26 years and 137 days. LOL
    Since Hansen's statement, only Chelsea (in 2004-05) have won the title with a younger squad.

    • @Dante-vf4sd
      @Dante-vf4sd 2 года назад

      The team was also filled with league winning seniors and an average age of 26 shows this as that's just about coming into prime she on average so his comments that you can't win anything with kids is totally valid, even the very fact that as you say only Chelsea have won it with a younger squad shows it's much much more likely to win with older experienced players, the media just like to spin things and rival fans lap it up.
