    I have zero interest in cars, no idea how to sort issues out when they go wrong and in general just want to jump in, get from A to B and that's it.
    You can watch the disaster unfold as I attempt to sort out a simple paint chip, and the lengths I'll go to, to sort the ugly things out!
    The kit can be ordered here: www.chipex.co.uk

    Best & most realistic review I've seen so far. I have the box in front of me and I'm building up the courage to have a go. Looks like a bit of patience is needed, letting the paint dry out enough so that you don't remove it all again in step 2, and work in layers when it's really deep.

    • @TechRealityGlasgow

      It's all about patience, and if you muck it up, wipe it off and try again... This video was posted in 2017, it's just about two years old, and I still stick by my comments made in the video and in replies. I've done some more touch ups down the road and they have all been great!

      Showing my age here.. but... back in the day (cough), paint on cars seemed to be about 1 inch thick and bricks would appear to just bounce off it and be scruff-free! Have to say I totally agree with your statement about modern water based car paint being abysmal. I have a Volvo XC40, and I swear a bug only has to look at the paint funny and it chips. My partners Skoda Kodiak is slightly better, but I only mean slightly!
    On a side note, at work, we run 10 buisness cars and all end up road rashed, and having had a heart attack at the repair cost, I decided to have a punt at repairing one of the metallic silver Mondeo's (with the gaffers permission mind) with the chipex kit. Repairs were near invisible and have stood up to a year of pretty much constant use and twice weekly washes. Did so well the boss decided to order kits for the rest of the motors too, and now I earn a little overtime tidying the chips up every few months.
    Top review!

    Nice to see a Scottish youtuber a d I like your simple style, some funny bits too,. Ioniq is a good car 👍🏾. I've got a polar white Hyundai i30N, and got a big chip on the bonnet. So I'm not sure chipex would fix that. I don't want any evidence of it if I was to fix it.

    • @TechRealityGlasgow

      Chipex by name.... and same by nature! I would say that when you get to anything larger than 1/4 of an inch (Old School here) then large touch ups are not going to be hidden very well if they are on a really noticeable section of the car... I bought the Ioniq Hybrid again there, and have been using the same pack I bought for the last model, and it is still keeping those nasty holes hidden!

    Ah so we're all getting new motors right now then. I used to sort out a whole host of mechanical issues with old school motors but these modern cars that are built around a computer system with cheap electronics have scuppered all that. I bet when you felt that cloth, you were glad to get the gloves too. Stone chips in a white car are total horror, trust me I know lol, they make it look awful but this kit looks pretty good, I remember getting a metallic blue people carrier and I actually bought a touch up kit with it at point of sale due to the cost of the car. Fiddly but not too bad a finish and worth the effort I reckon. Nice work Mr. Keenan :)

Now I'm scratching thinking about it LOL!!! I will add a little bit more to the large chip as I noticed it today in the sunlight, different angle.... but at least I'll not panic as much as I was yesterday!

      Same here.
      Was not too sure what to make of Chipex as there is no clear coat (apparantly formulated in the paint per FAQ).
      I have wondered whether any well matched paint + solvent would let you blend in the exact same manner, and I am sure this would be the case. However, on the basis Chipex is formulated as a single (matched colour + clear coat) durable paint, vs colour matched paint that needs to be clear coated to protect the colour, the added premium seems worth it.

    Good looking car that, I always fancied white but couldn't ever face the idea of having to wash it every other day! Impressive job fixing those chips though - the end result is perfect and as you say the kit will last the time you have the car so really is great long term value - because chips are just guaranteed nowadays while car manufacturers save by adding the least amount of paint and hard coat finish possible.

    • @TechRealityGlasgow
      @TechRealityGlasgow  4 года назад

      Yes, they supply this sort of sponge type block, that means you just hold it lightly, and gently press. That's the weird part, you feel as though you should be pressing hard, when in fact you do hold it lightly, and gently with next to zero pressure just swirl it aorund.

    • @TechRealityGlasgow

      I let it air dry. Since its very small amounts being used, it only takes a few minutes anyway. The real issue is not having patience! You dab, fill the hole, then wait a few minutes then you get tempted to touch it! If you have a good look to the thing when you do it, resit touching it as you will mess it up.... I know from experience!!! Ten minutes and then another light dab and finish off is usually all it needs.

      Sam Davison the cover is still perfect and I can’t find the scratches unless I stare for ages! Got a large one to deal with now, so may do a shot of that cover up and see how that goes. So... I’m still very happy and that’s after a number of washes, with nothing failing on the paint side.

      Tech Reality thanks for the super fast reply. I have a few nasty chips and have actually brought the official ford touch up kit from them, but theirs does not have any blending method in the instructions. Just to dab the paint and then apply a clear coat. I can only imagine that will leave a paint blob :/

    I used the product today, it doesn't work on my car. My car is medium gray color. After applying all the application, it turned out there is a huge cloud from the new paint around the treated area. It makes it worse than before. I don't know what to do with it now.

    • @TechRealityGlasgow
      @TechRealityGlasgow  6 лет назад

      I would contact Chipex, and see if they can assist. Like anything involving paint, the usual way to work is a very small amount of paint, and you dab away at it. As for a huge cloud from the new paint, from my limited knowledge of cars and paint work in general, my first though is, when you put the paint on, it was onto the original paintwork, and not over a re-spray or other touch up that may have been tried? As they create a match to the colour you specify, there has to be something else happening here that is not the norm.

    • @Petlover10000
      @Petlover10000 6 лет назад

      I did contact Chipex at UK, I live in the US. It takes the next day to get the reply. They told me to apply more/excess Blending Solution which will get rid of the cloud area. I tried and it works, 95% of the cloud area has been gone. The cloud area is the area that I dab away at it. When I saw you video, it looks so easy, but when I did it, it wasn't easy that I thought.
      They are checking if they sent me the right color, I asked for Gray Metallic, they may not send me the right color. The area that I need to treat is a little deep, I may have to apply several times.

    • @TechRealityGlasgow

      I have a deep scratch on my handle, and I have had to build the layers of paint up. Light dabs, wipe it, let it dry for a day or so, clean and then add on more paint a small bit at a time, and it's now pretty much invisible. The one learning experience I have had with this sort of thing is that it's not a 5 minutes job to do and patience is needed to get it done right. Thankfully the scratches I am dealing with are not large, and my car is White, so that in itself will be a major help in sorting this sort of stuff out.

    • @TechRealityGlasgow
      @TechRealityGlasgow  6 лет назад

      You need to let it set for a bit, that's the guessing bit really. 5 minutes seemed to be enough, and then lightly skim over the paint with the cloth. You may be tempted to press, but don't do that, just let the cloth skim over the paint and it soon levels off.
