- Welcome to another episode of Scrap Mechanic! Today I am over-engineering another weapon that is completely impractical! I call this the Double Sawblade Whip! It's two floppy strands of spinning sawblades that get flung around in a circle, whipping bots away as they approach! How effective will it be?

I have been watching battlebots season 5 and i can say that this is basically Smeeeeeeeeeeeeeee but there are too many saws

I don't know how why I don't see more people going for the spinning horizontal bars as a defense method, they are very effective and can be done in the very first hour of gameplay

A fun thought: instead of horizontal saws try this with vertical saws that roll the way of the motion, add in free bearings in between each blade letting them rotate how they want based on speed and angle

Make either a “clapper” which is just two hands that just claps them and maybe put some drills between them, or make a thing that picks them up then slams them down very hard or make it yeet them

How about a punching weapon? Sensors on the fists activate the piston punchers:) put the fighter on wheels with tank steering so you can spin to face your target. Maybe have a straight jab as well as an uppercut punch:)

That wedge block sequence was quality content.
Edit: Also, I wonder how it would work if it was more like a chainsaw, as in the saw blades are already fully wrapped around the arm and seat in a continuously linked chain like a chainsaw. Would also be cool if you could time you hammer swing to hit the tape back at the bots.

The 1st stage of the contraption is effective against haybots and greenies but weak against the farmbot, and the 2nd stage is its counterpart

Concept for an impractical weapon basically just take the whip and turn it into one of those old parabolas... I think that's what they are called. Its the old rope with a rock and one end and a rock on the other end. The one in Viking times that you would spin in you hand and throw to trip/trap any creatures, or in this case, bots. Also I recommend you but sawblades on both the top and the bottom. It might help with the smaller bots like the Greenies.
8:40 Mutiplayer Monday game idea: Greenie Golf - Simply have holes a distance away from the contraption each player made and be the player with least strokes to the hole, (?bonus if the greenie is alive?)
And of course, the Greenies are gonna walk around during hits and after landing, but this adds to the excitement
impratical weapon ideas:
1. make a fly swatter with drill bits
2. make a gun that shoots saw-blades
3. make a big robot meant to kill tote bots

the ones where you block something moved by a controller and it goes really fast when you let it go?
see if you can make some modular wall segments out of those and automate them!
I feel like it would've been more effective had there been thrusters on the ends of the sawblade whips to apply force downwards and sideways.

It looked like it actually got worse after you powered up the sawblades, maybe a change of direction would have helped them, also getting rid of a few off the end might have made it better as well, since the speed up/slow down issue was caused by too much weight at the far end.

4:59 A lot more counterweight might have been a decent bandaid fix rather than extra thrust, need to maintain a steady speed unless you want to start flicking the whip around.

One improvement that I think would have helped with the saw blades lagging behind is add a thruster where you attached the wheels. Or power the bearing giving the wheel power

what you were truly missing with this project is mass at the end of the whip. This will keep the blades going through things instead of catching on the bots.

Impractical weapon idead:
Make the bot-a-pult. Inspired by the triggerable catapults from trailmakers.
it baits bots onto the platform, then yeets them to another planet.

At first I thought you were just making like a swing Contraption but that's cool how how I can go into a hammer mode which is also stated to that's pretty cool
I made something similar to defend my farm in survival, though it was more of a saw rod that had spinning saw blades hooked to controllers
I feel like putting a slow thruster on the end of the whip should help somewhat, and have it on a seperate button so you can control it.
You should make a giant wrecking ball that crushes bots!

Hammer Mk2
2 or 4 arms freely spining horizontally and vertically. With spudguns powering in upwards movement by sensors so all can spin horizontally too. The spudguns are there to shoot watever crawls behind the arms, preventing the 0 damage made by stuck arms.
You need to put the thrusters on the end of the blade so that they will always spin and not have to rely on the main hammer moving itself.
Ive got an idea for an impractical weapon.
So the main concept is based around drills.
What if you made something that SHOT drills at bots??
If you want it to be a little more like a whip, make it able to spin both ways, move it one way a bit, let it curl a little, and spin it the other way. The curl will move down the whip and hit at a very high speed at the tip. Look at some videos of how to crack a whip, you'll see.
Got to love greenies getting yeeted.
The reason for the farm bot teleporting is due to the saw blades cutting a hole into the navmesh which the farm bot uses to navigate which automatically readjusts the agent to available space.
Fun fact(maybe): the closer something is to the turning point, the faster it accelerates and the faster it spins(like iceskaters do for spins by tucking into a ball like shape)
Suspension glitch stabilize it, and unweld it from the ground, that would be so much more... FUN...
Also, 4 SawBladeWhips, for maximum obliteration
Impractical weapon: A hand with drills on it that slaps the bots if they come close to it.
It's so stooooooooopidd I love it.
I have not watched the full video yet so I dont know if you make this change, however I feel it would work smoother if the wheel at the end was replaced with downwards facing drill.
Fun vid. Is this basically a flail? Would it work better with a different mechanism driving the spinning? I'm also curious if changing the length and the end support mechanism would change the way it works.
You can increase the efficiency by either extending the counterweight further out from the center or shortening to 5 or so blades
hey Scarpman, re engineer the wip so the "hammer" part has blades in it to deal more damage, and add a funtion that allows you to cut the wip off and add more thrust to the hammer
Aight, now all we need is a deadly obstacle course filled with these deadly weapons with KAN and the gang!
Epic idea make a boxing Glove which can one punch the farmbot
Put a booster on the wheel and put the saw blade underneath the chain for max efficiency
i like the free bearing toilet, because when the saws hit it, it just started spinning super fast
that greeny got YEETED!!!
