Enjoy your RUSH journey. You are in for one hell of a ride. I've seen RUSH 79 times in concert since 1976. They were the Best band ever. There are so so many great songs that you need to listen to. Enjoy your RUSH experience.
Their musicianship is unparalleled. They've always put so much care in crafting their songs. As a musician myself, I can tell you how difficult what they do truly is. I've seen Rush 21 times live and they never disappointed.
That's what I thought as well Bruno then I discovered a band called Band-Maid. Rush is still my favorite but Band-Maid is a close second as far as talent and musicianship goes. Just ask Venice!😀
"The Garden" was written by Neil to be their last song, on their last album, as a way of saying "Goodbye" to all their fans. "The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect....So hard to earn, so easily burned". I tear-up every time I listen to it, thinking about what was to happen years later. As always, RIP Neil
I love Rush! They were amazing from Working Man to The Garden. I feel that they continued to improve from the very beginning until the very last song. This song is so impressive in so many ways. It always makes me tear up. It's as though they were saying goodbye, and by the way, we want you all to have a good life. Here is one more tidbit of wisdom for all of you!
I would say this is Rush's most sacred song. They had nothing to prove with this album, yet they wrote something so beautiful. This song hit me like a brick when I hear it the first time, reducing me to tears. I remember thinking "how dare they" lol The last song on the album, you could feel that they were saying goodbye to us but in a Rush-like fashion, leaving behind a generous message to remember.
For three men nearing 60 years of age when this album was written in remarkable in itself. For "The Garden" to be the ribbon on this most unique and never to be duplicated career is an achievement that only compares to "The End" by the Beatles in my mind. I've never heard "The Garden" without getting emotional - not just the song itself, but the meaning behind it. I think of my Mom and and who she was. I even think of Neil's family and loved ones and those he had to leave behind. Because this man just seemed like a decent, humble, giving and honorable human. It is this song above all others that makes me so immensely proud to be a 40 year fan. It was an absolute privilege seeing them 49 times from 1983 through every tour to the final one in 2015. I never felt cheated, ripped off or felt they didn't bring all they had on the night. I've lived a lot of life through those years and they were indirectly there through all of it with their songs certainly being a scrapbook of my life. They are as close to my heart as 'strangers' could ever be. I also think that they would be very proud seeing you as someone so young as you getting into their music and really evaluating it. Music is a continuum. If it's really good, it's timeless. All future generations will have to walk through certain and specific rock doors on their way to mastering their own craft. Rush will definitely be one of those doors.
Hard to believe this tour was 11 years ago! How time passes. The whole Clockwork Angels album was/is a masterpiece from start to finish! Rush ended on the ultimate high note - and that could not be more punctuated than the closing song, The Garden! What a beautiful piece, and perfectly fitting swan song to the incredible career our trio from Toronto had!! My eyes can't stay dry once Alex goes into his guitar solo after the piano segment - especially since Neil's passing (RIP). I could not think of a better farewell to us all! Thanks for this reaction! Keep the Rush coming - you will NEVER be disappointed!
It’s nice to see that others feel the same about this song. After Neil passed away, it really hit me so hard, and that guitar solo gets me every single time.
If you're ever able to see the DVD from this particular concert I recommend it because they do other songs in their repertoire that don't typically have strings with the strings it's so cool 😎
The Garden makes me cry because I know Geddy and Alex were playing this song that Neil wrote and that they knew he was dying. RIP Neil you are with your wife and daughter. Omg this is so emotional and so sad. Neil great writer
The garden is Rush’s farewell to its fan base. They knew the end had come and left us the most incredibly emotional, beautifully intense song written. The studio version to me is better than the live version simply because the outro is longer. When I listen to the garden, the pain of missing Neil becomes secondary(but ever present) when you take the lyrics to heart and your ears and soul experience true artistry.
so it's been awhile since I've heard this song but it's amazing how they incorporated riffs from their previous works like 2112, natural science, and distant early warning. It seems fitting for a title such as clockwork angels.
I doubt I will ever be able to listen to The Garden and not tear up thinking of all Neil meant to me (and all Rush fans). His hopeful instructions on how to live as well as his epitaph.
QUICK FUN FACT: Since you're a fan of the strings on this song, you might be interested to know that one of the members of the string ensemble is Jonathan Dinklage, the brother of "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage. Peter Dinklage, along with a number of other celebrities can be seen in at least one of the in-concert backscreen video skits.
I cannot wait for you to react to the first side of the album 2112. Your going to be blown away. It was recorded in 1976. It's so freaking amazing. Looking forward to your reaction to it. I love your RUSH REACTIONS.
Clockwork Angels is a Novel you should read as well. The Garden is perhaps, if not definitively the ultimate Swan Song. Last Written and Last Recorded. Few Rush fans can not shed a tear when they hear this song.
I saw every show in Chicago since '82. Rush is the code to life. I recommend By-Tor and the Snow Dog for the ultimate fun. The album Hemispheres is for very advanced listeners only. You spanned a wonderful timeline so far.
You seem to really love the more chilled-out songs. I highly recommend you check out the following... The pass, ghost of a chance, mission, resist, and tears
As you just listened to Rush's final song, why not treat yourself by buying the DVD (or better yet the Blu-ray) of that entire performance. I think that I can guarantee that you will enjoy it! 😎✌️ Oh yeah! There's also a graphic novel and a prose novel out there waiting for you.…
Roughly since 1984, Neil had a complete second drum set behind him. It started as a minimalistic set (basic) compared to his monster primary set, but afforded him the luxury and flexibility to provide more atmospheric effects live. It was mostly electric and evolved with each album/tour to more and more equipment and is basically two full sets, one 80-90% electric.🤘🖖✌️🎸🥁🎹🎤👌👍
the details are quite open to interpretation, especially with Clockwork Angels. much is revealed in the reading of Neil's book, upon which this whole album is actually based. it's a good adventure (with some sci-fi )novel, and an easy read. IMO, the book is worth the read.
The Garden being the last song on the last album is so apt given Neil's untimely demise some years later as it is such a fanfare for him as a person who touched so many during his life with his lyrics and it is very difficult to watch this as a life long fan it still brings tears to my eyes, very emotional
I'm so glad you did these songs. ❤🔥What made this so special is Alex playing the keyboards. The history of Alex fighting with Geddy back in the 80's about using the keyboards too much in songs. Alex could not stand the keyboards. Alex played the keyboards so beautifully in this song. I cried when I saw that.
Your commentary was excellent. As time allows, I do recommend checking out additonal Rush songs, particularly those that I listed in a previous comment. I also recommend watching at least one of Neil's live drum solos. They are epic.
This was hard for Neil the drummer to perform , For those that do not know he lost his daughter to a car accident then his wife shortly after to Cancer , He took time off from the band and others fora while , Neil wrote the lyrics for this song , A Garden to Nature and protect the Garden represents family ,.
2112 is a year. 21-12. I like how much you are enjoying my fav band. 52 minutes is very long for 2 songs imo. Way too many pauses. The lead violinist is Peter Dinklage's brother
"The air controlling the notes"...never heard that in 61 years. & I played bass 40 years of 61. You're good, girl. You unequivocally have a charged future. Thanks!

From 1974 - 2015, into 2112 and beyond, RUSH is the most awesome band. Ever!

You have so so many great RUSH songs to react to. Your going to be blown away. You have just scratched the surface. Your going to be blown away.
I was there. 10th row on the floor. AMAZING AS USUAL!!
THIS IS RUSH!! 🤘🤘❤️❤️

They were simply the best. Period. Put up all the contenders you want, Rush wins every time

Your passion for music is really fun to watch. Natural Science is another song by Rush I think you'd appreciate.
If you're ever able to see the DVD from this particular concert I recommend it because they do other songs in their repertoire that don't typically have strings with the strings it's so cool 😎
I love new Rush fans . Never forget Neil’s memory!!!!
The Garden is uncannily good. I didn’t like it much at first, but after a few times it suddenly hit me and I couldn’t stop crying.
The Garden makes me cry because I know Geddy and Alex were playing this song that Neil wrote and that they knew he was dying. RIP Neil you are with your wife and daughter. Omg this is so emotional and so sad. Neil great writer
Love this song and yes brings tears to my eyes always. Rush like so many is the story of our lives. Thanks Rush for giving us a reason to go forth.
Your commitment to the breakdown of these songs is very impressive indeed! 🏆🏆🏆
Candide is a famous centuries-old novel by Voltaire. Neil based a lot of this story on it. It's a short read and a lot of fun.
Neil’s Drum solos were awesome “Not just a drum solo more composed” check out Live in Frankfurt drum solo
The Garden can be a bit of a tearjerker in hindsight. It definitely sounds like a 'farewell.'
aawww yes you are so right :)
For sure! You can tell it by everthing both Lyrics and the sounds.
As you hint, heightened immeasurably by Neil's passing 😢
@@MarkoMakela-mv8dt it wasn't written as that but became pretty prophetic.
@@jonlate4581 At the time Neil Peart knew about his untreatble and fatal brain cancer... so there is that.
I was at this show, it was filmed in Dallas. The last time I saw them.
The red head playing cello reminds me of Magenta, from Rocky Horror Picture Show. 🐵
The "chants" at the beginning of Clockwork Angels is actually just Ged singing the lyrics, but its played backwards. Yup

New subscriber ! The Garden is truly one of Rush's most tearjerkers
You really need to watch the Rush documentary Beyond the lighted stage
I doubt I will ever be able to listen to The Garden and not tear up thinking of all Neil meant to me (and all Rush fans). His hopeful instructions on how to live as well as his epitaph.
As I suggested, on your previous Rush video, you should read the book 'Clockwork Angels' by Kevin J Anderson and Neil Peart.
Its very much a theme to Neil's life and the band .A beautiful piece of music by the worlds best trio 🤘RUSH🤘. Smiles 😃 from Canada 🇨🇦
I knew you would love this song :)
rush -between the wheels live
That's amazing live, as is pretty much anything live by these three giants among musicians. At the moment, I'm digging Digital man live, too.
QUICK FUN FACT: Since you're a fan of the strings on this song, you might be interested to know that one of the members of the string ensemble is Jonathan Dinklage, the brother of "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage. terrific analysis by you!
"The Arrow" = "The Arrow of Time", a concept that a lot of physicists actually allude to in less formal discussions

Love the Garden. Little side info: that man in the black suit on the screens behind them is actually actor Jay Baruchel...Greets from Germany

In 2015 when Neil retired from drumming he got a job as a librarian at a grade school.

"Candide" by Voltaire (pronounced Can-Deed) is the actual book upon which "The Garden" is based
You could also read the book that was written along with this
The album is a concept album. Neil’s last hurrah

People fail to remember they were either approaching or in their sixties at this time.
Love RUSH BUT PLEASE MORE

There's nothing else to say. It's Rush...
Try some Led Zeppelin-stairway to heaven live at Madison square garden 1973. Or immigrant song live -do both

I do feel sorry for your generation that you didn’t get to grow up lexrxt and pratt and Dirk.
Too much analysis. Enjoy the entire piece then reflect. Your listeners will enjoy your reaction more.
"The air controlling the notes"...never heard that in 61 years. & I played bass 40 years of 61. You're good, girl. You unequivocally have a charged future. Thanks!
