Neil Peart is the only person that I didn't know personally that I cried when he died. He was famously shy, but through all his lyrics it was like you truly knew him.
Just saw your comment on this. Same for me-his death hit me so hard that it scared me. I could not stop crying. This song still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. It’s a shame that it never got a lot of airplay.
Thank you, you have a deep soul my friend. Can listen to RUSH over and over and they never get old. Especially in this song, the graceful exit to an amazing journey that gave us so much. Alex's solo...constant chills!
This is the last song on Rush's last album. It was Neil's reflection on life and what is important. It is both beautiful and heart wrenching at the same time. I can never hear this song without tearing up.
Me too I always get tear up when I hear this song. It is such an important song that reminds us to never take anything for granted and to be a good human. I love this song.
This song is such a perfect ending for such a long and wonderful career. It's not so much sad as realizing that ultimately, your life will be measured by what you've done for others. Your life is like a garden and acts of kindness and love and charity will grow beautiful things.
This song brings out so much emotion and truth, and to see you both struck by the message of the song shows the power of music and the genius of Neil Peart. Great reaction video!
The song is important and personal to me as a Rush fan because it is their swan song. I've never met them and I will always feel connected to them. Their music has held me together for decades.
I lost my mom and my brother to cancer, and I'm now less than a week away from finalizing the sale on the house in which we'd lived our entire lives, and I always burst into tears whenever I see this. It's a beautifully moving tribute to three lives that have touched mine, who were taken far too soon. For another beautifully moving tribute to Neil, and how he made the most of every moment he was given, be sure to see the U.S. Army Band's rendition of their song Time Stand Still. Rest in peace Professor; your garden is being well looked after. Neil Peart R.I.P 🥁 🥁 🐐 🐐
Wow, WOW WOW! I totally get your reaction to this beautiful song. I am originally born in Wales , in UK, i have lived and travelled all over the world, i now live in Scotland. I have been a RUSH fan since 1977 , went to see them in 78 and was very lucky to have seen them live in 2011 and 2015 , when they played The Garden live , what a moment this track is to hear played live, exceptional. Your reaction was so emotional, as I m always teary when I listen to the Garden. Yes you are correct in saying it has a special place since Neil’s passing. This track had similar teary reaction from me when I last saw them live. It’s a mixture of sadness , fear, and I hope I think. Makes me go into the past present and future in space of a few precious minutes, amazing. Love to know where you guys are from , it’s lovely to feel a bond with people through my iPad. This does not happen normally I must say. I wish you both well in this scary world we have presently . Take care 👍🏴😊
Hi there, thank you so much for your kind and somewhat encouraging words. I'm Polish and andrei is Romanian. We moved to Romania from the UK last year. All the best and take care 😊
As mentioned prior, the older you get the more meaning this song has. The older we become we realize there is more behind us than in front of us and we ask ourselves in reflection if we lived our lives the best we could. The answer is always no. If only we could live twice bringing what we learned in the first to the second. Nurture and protect what we have because we get only one chance.
I'm not sure if Neil knew this was the last album when he wrote this, I'm pretty sure he wasn't sick yet, he passed seven years later. But it does serve as a farewell song from Neil.
As a four decade Rush fan and I saw them 12 times we know what this song represented. This was the last song on their last studio album Clockwork Angles the final R40 tour in 2015 and the untimely death of drummer and lyricist Neil Peart in January 2020, A piece of my life as a youth, young man, gentleman now gone… Thank you for your heartfelt reaction and review. Long live Neil Peart and long live the mighty Rush
I am a lifelong Rush fan as well, going back to the early 70's. I have also seen them more than 10 times. Unfortunately, I lost track of exactly how many. The only record I have of some of the Rush shows I saw is thanks to my wife who saves ticket stubs. I have not always done the right things, but I can say most assuredly that I am a better person because of them. Rush taught me to listen and learn (Every Rush song ever written). They taught me to work hard (Working Man). They taught me that life is tough and unexpected (Kid Gloves, Roll the Bones). They taught me to be curious and change the world (Closer to the Heart). They taught me to be enthusiastic (Red Barchetta). They taught me to be creative (2112, Closer to the Heart). They taught me to explore (The Analog Kid, Fly by Night, The Camera Eye). They taught me not to waste time (Between the Wheels). They taught me to dream and seize the day, (Losing It, Mission, Marathon). They taught me to respect my fellow man (Witch Hunt). They taught me to abhor war (Red Sector A, Distant Early Warning). They taught me to be inclusive of others (Subdivisions). They taught me to just have fun and enjoy what you do (Where's my thing, YYZ, La Villa Strangiato, Leave that Thing Alone, The Main Monkey Business). They taught me and they taught me, year after year until they ended their career with the greatest lesson of all. They taught me to build a rich, fertile life, grow, flourish, and to remember them. I will never forget them. Their songs are words to live by.
I’m right there with you two. This brings a tear to my eyes as well. It really makes you stop and realize you need to make the most of your life because we never know when the clock stops for us. 🙏
I am very glad you two seem to enjoy Rush. I am enjoying your reactions. I look forward to any and all of their songs you listen to. They have been my favorite band for 40+ years. Enjoy the journey. =)
Beautiful song brings tears to me everytime. First time i went to a Rush concert was 1981 and went to every UK tours. We were all crying when they played the garden. RIP to the professor on the drums Neil peart
I'm 70 years old and I wish I would have been a kinder person more gentle and more understanding . I found that as you get older you regret the negative actions of your life and sad experiences creep into your thoughts more often as the years go by .
The lyrics are a nod to Voltaire's 'Candide'. Not many rock bands can say that ! It's the last song of an album long story where the main character is looking back on his life. Clockwork Angels is a great story.
I've watched this reaction many times, and your interpretation of this beautiful song was so extremely genuine that i finally commented on it. I truly appreciated both of your reactions. R.I.P. Neil.
Great reaction to an absolutely beautiful song! This track got me emotional upon first release in 2012...always got misty eyed, but upon hearing at after Neil's passing (RIP Professor), the tears flow...every time. The lyrics are perfection, and apply to us all: "The measure of a life, is a measure of love and respect - so hard to earn, so easily burned. In the fullness of time, a garden to nurture & protect" Then comes the music, especially Alex's piano & guitar solo! I can't think of a more appropriate, poignant & heartfelt swan song by any group. Rush forever! Cheers.
It is a Sad song ,but it is the Truth.Great musicians at the End of their time together.

Neil was my idol for 45 years. I taught myself to play the drums to Neil and other drummers. This song always brings tears to my eyes because it's so bittersweet now that Neil has passed. It's their most beautiful song ever in my opinion.
This is my favorite Rush song. There's a common misconception that Neil Peart knew he had cancer when he wrote it and meant it as a goodbye. However, it was written a full five years before he became ill, and there was no plan at the time for Clockwork Angels to be the band's final album. It was just the conclusion to the story the album tells, with the protagonist reflecting on his life. The fact that it wound up being the last song on the last album is purely a coincidence, albeit a sadly fitting one.
I enjoy your reviews so much. The two of you are very special and together, that feeling is magnified. Thank you for your reviews… and for appreciating the greatest band of the majority of my life. I am blessed to have seen Rush perform at or 6 - 7 shows between 1981 - 2012. I was a blessing and honor to have my wife and son with me to see this song performed with me the last time in 2012. We were on the main floor in Michigan… I remember seeing this vividly and having my own feeling that this was their Swan Song… Rush lives on but certainly this closed a major life chapter. Yes, a soft of farewell… and yet it is so uplifting too!
It is a very emotional music & song i love RUSH there one of my biggest aspiration of most of my music i make & i try to make every song unique in it's own way
A lot of emotion in this one. An epitaph for Rush as a band. For Neil, the guy who made me pick up drum sticks over 20 years ago and lastly for my best friend, now 8 years since his passing. An amazing piece.
Your faces at 14:39 says it all. 40yr RUSH fan here and this song wrecks me every time. It taps into so many emotions. That's the beauty of music, in general and RUSH, specifically. Great reaction - thank you for your honesty ❤
I just watched all three of your Rush reactions and I enjoyed all three. I love how the two of you articulate how you feel and I love that you get the music. Besides the fact that all three are amazing musicians, lyrically Rush songs all have something to say. Neil Peart (the drummer) is the main lyricist and has pen some of the most beautiful lyrics I've ever heard. Keep going and discover one of the greatest and unique bands the world has ever seen. Enjoy.
As heart-wrenching as it is, I cannot think of a more perfect song to be the last song on the last album of a band with such a long and stellar career. Just untouchable.
I loved hearing your reaction to the lyrics, it is a very sentimental song and has a lot of meaning to us longtime Rush fans knowing that this was their last song and Neil was hyper aware of his mortality.
This song makes me reflect on life and how temporary our time in the garden really is. So damn sad, but if it hits you like it should, you will be a better person tomorrow and embrace the ones you love. God bless Neil Peart. RIP to the GOAT, love, respect, and longevity upon Geddy and Alex. These guys were and are a huge part of my life. RUSH ❤️
What makes this so special is Neil the drummer wrote the lyrics, It’s about looking after those close to you , Neils daughter died in a car crash then his wife passed away from Cancer shortly after , Neil took time away from the band ,the garden refers to what matters to you in life
Subscribed. What a wonderful couple. You are a delight. So sincere, so down to earth, so fresh. Please do Time stand still by Rush but the one done by the military choir in memory of Neil Peart ( Drummer).
It is a beautiful and amazing feeling to be confronted with reality and truth even when it is scary and sad. As humans, when we truly come to the present moment and see our truth, it brings many gifts. One primary one is how connected we feel with ourselves. It's often fleeting and some people find it disturbing when they are incapable of sitting in that power, but I love it! Neil, as is often the case finds a way to deliver the message. Other performers here do a great job and you can see how meaningful it is to them. What a wondrous way to end a career as a trio. 🖤🖤🖤
When they wrote this, Neil wasn't sick, but they knew they were coming to an end. When I heard this Alex's solo, it felt like he was conveying gratefulness for the times they had together, extreme sadness that the time was coming to an end and a brief hope that they'd get more time together.
This is one of my absolute favourite Rush compositions, not songs, this is more than a song, like 2112 and La Villa Strangiato, this is a Composition. Rush was a combination of 3 amzing artists, as well as 3 master musicians.
Great reaction to a great song. 🧡 Always makes me think of Neil and what he went through. A great message to leave us all with, on the last song on their last studio album.🧡
A career bookended Working Man.......and the Garden. Your reaction is perfect. Those who understand what Rush is are people who think differently than most. This has been my experience.
Tears flowing again such an emotional song for Rush fans almost painful to hear. I always wonder if Neil who wrote the sing had an inkling he only had a few years left after so many tragedies in his life, so cruel.
The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect; So hard to earn, so easily burned In the fullness of time A garden to nurture and protect (It's a measure of a life) The treasure of a life is a measure of love and respect: The way you live, the gifts that you give In the fullness of time Is the only return that you expect
There are two things that would have touched Neil with your reaction. This song to me said we must cultivate the relationships on a daily basis as one would with a Garden if one wants to see it flourish. The Don't take it for granted. Cultivate that feeling in tender little ways. You made it plain. Second Rush always appreciated hearing how their music influenced someone, even if it was different from their personal point of view. They have many unfathomable songs but this is the deepest. Thank you both. Good Health to you both
Being sad because you feel you haven't done enough in life is a moot point. Everyone is given a task and if you chose to ignore it, that's on you. Life is a give and take, to live is to trade that gift for a task/purpose. The check is always due at the end of the meal called life. Ever wonder why the main universal rule is balance? You and I along with everything else has a job to maintain that balance. ❤
The deepest of all Rush songs, so hard for me to hear...it's beauty is so profound; this is the very last Rush song...ever; I love you both, though I have never met you, any most likely never will, but I truly appreciate your time, and your emotional response to all this music, (music is a true secret and the one universal language) "Without music, life would truly be a mistake" ~ Nietzsche
If you want to hear another life-based profound song from Rush, listen to the song "Losing it", but get the studio version with the lyrics so you can read along.
It really is so much more than a song .. we're all part of the garden
The last song on their last album. I believe that this was Neil's way of saying "Goodbye". RIP professor.
I feel the same way. A message from Neil to put life in perspective and respect it.

Neil Knew the end was near in this song.
I miss him so much.
I'm pretty sure Neil knew he was dying when he wrote this song. It's such a beautiful song, sad yes, but beautiful. NEIL FOREVER!
"It's the measure of a life". Neil Peart.....poet genius. RIP
I tear up every single time I listen to this. Every single time.
Thank you, you have a deep soul my friend.
Can listen to RUSH over and over and they never get old.
Especially in this song, the graceful exit to an amazing journey that gave us so much.
Alex's solo...constant chills!
It's because you have a soul, friend.
Goosebumps every time.
«the future dissapears into memory, with only a moment between. Forever dwells in that moment. Hope is what remains to be seen»
Most powerful lyric…😢
The way your wife put her hand on your shoulder...We should all be that lucky to have an understanding Rush wife! 😂
How Appropriate, to Sum up the Entire Catalog of "Messages", from Neil's Soul, during the Evolution of their Whole Career!
RUSH MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT LIFE A MEASURE OF A LIFE “””
This song is such a perfect ending for such a long and wonderful career. It's not so much sad as realizing that ultimately, your life will be measured by what you've done for others. Your life is like a garden and acts of kindness and love and charity will grow beautiful things.
What a beautiful ending to one of the best bands ever...rest in peace NEIL.
I cannot listen to this song without tearing up. Yes, it was a goodbye song, and it took on more meaning after Neil died.
This song brings out so much emotion and truth, and to see you both struck by the message of the song shows the power of music and the genius of Neil Peart. Great reaction video!
🙏 is the Neil's way to say thank you and goodbye for everything! we miss you professor!
Touched by a song that's what it is all about .
Beautiful reaction. All of us Rush fanatics can't help but think about Neil every time we hear this song.
Beautiful song😢
The song is important and personal to me as a Rush fan because it is their swan song. I've never met them and I will always feel connected to them. Their music has held me together for decades.

You two are looking a little emotional after the first minute, this song gets me every time I hear it still after 11 years of hearing it.
Thank you Neil…….❤❤❤❤! RIP Professor…..I hope your with your wife and child once again!
I just discovered your channel and l love it! I subscribed. Greetings from. Canada 🇨🇦 l love Rush! Was lucky enough to see them many times here live.
A beautiful song to end a wonderful career, R.I.P. Neil, your garden will continue to thrive forever.😢

(It's a measure of a life)
The treasure of a life is a measure of love and respect:
The way you live, the gifts that you give
In the fullness of time
Is the only return that you expect
Go down the Rush rabbit hole. You can thank me later. Love your reactions.
How Appropriate, to Sum up the Entire Catalog of "Messages", from Neil's Soul, during the Evolution of their Whole Career!
R.I.P. Professor.
It is a measure of a life. 40 years they dealt with it. What is your measure . I hope it is love.
