  • I had this power washer for 16 yrs and never changed the pump oil. Since the pump quit I decided to take it apart and see if it had any internal damage. To my surprise the internals were in perfect condition (pistons, springs, bearings etc.). So all I needed to do was empty the oil and replace it with fresh and reassemble the pump. I just needed to replace the o-rings in the head to stop the water leak. Easy fix!

First, I'd like to commend you on your thorough and detailed troubleshooting techniques. I have some pressure related issues with a 20+ year old pressure washer that I picked up and your video will help address what I believe is a simple problem. Now to my rant. I admire very much your step by step approach to fixing a piece of equipment that you've owned for 16+ yrs. My grandfather passed along this same type of "repair what you've got" approach to me and it has served me well over the years. Unfortunately, I see a generation(s) of people who both lack these skills and avoid learning how to fix things that are broken thus embrace a throw away mentality. This throw away society is part of why our country's in trouble.

Michael c ... thank you for kind remarks. I can’t agree with you more. I believe some of our “throw away society” is related to how busy people are in their daily lives and just don’t have the time to spend on making repairs or even maintaining their equipment, so when things break it’s just easier to toss it and get another one. My Parents were children of the “Great Depression” and taught their children to appreciate and take care of what they have. I think people generally don’t want to throw things away and really do want to repair their broken equipment but lack the knowledge or time. I hope my videos help to inspire people to take on the challenge by showing them how and also that it’s not really that difficult or time consuming and instills a sense of pride when fixing something and saving some money doing it. Thanks again for watching and commenting.

This video was very helpful. I have the same exact pump kit on my washer that builds too much pressure and shuts off. But also it blew a bunch of black oil, and now I know I need to look/change the oil of the pump kit.

Thank you for sharing this video. One thing I found helpful when I disassembled/re-assembled my washer pump. which tended to push apart the halves of the housing due to the strength of the valve springs, was to find and use slightly longer screws of the same size/thread pitch as the OEMs to start to close the housing halves. Once I got the two halves together, close enough to catch the threads of the OEM screws, I switched out the long screws one by one. Either this method or use a large enough C-clamp to close the housing. By this method it was safer to compress the valve springs and avoid cross threading the screws. Keep up the good work and again thanks for sharing your experience.

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking the same thing when I was reassembling the pump but I didn’t have long enough screws or a c-clamp within reach while making the video. I should have planned ahead a little better 😂 . Thank you for watching and commenting. Great suggestions for the viewers.

@@LivetofishOutboardRepair Yes, I almost stripped the last screw while taking it apart. So, re-assembling the housing I stepped aside to think how did the manufacturer get these two halves together. Then, recalling how automotive engines are put together in mass production, I concluded they probably use locating pins and long bolts to guide the two halves together.

@@tedtolentino4955 I agree, since I now work on the assembly line after getting let go from my job after 28 yrs , I know exactly what you mean.

Carmelo Relente … Sorry to hear that your pump had so many issues. I believe it is water and oil cooled since water does travel through the pump and with the amount of oil in the pump it also keeps the bearings cool. Thanks for watching and commenting. Good luck with fixing your pump.

I thought one is supposed to use a 30 weight non detergent oil and not a multi viscosity engine oil.

RayOfLight… you are correct but using a good quality fully synthetic motor oil has worked well without issue. I don’t see a problem with it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
