It was my first megaman game, ironically. As a kid, I loved it. I was surprised to learn that it is pretty hated. Playing again, I can absolutely see.the flaws in some levels and enemies, as well as the poor execution of the nightmare effect. The issue with some parts being absolutely necessary for the gate stages is also present. But it gets some exaggerated hate. A lot of people just say that all levels and their gimmicks are trash and are the worst thing ever, which is absolutely nonsense, since some of the levels use the gimmicks in a clever way to push your platforming skills. Other levels I can agree are terrible, but not all of them.
@@solarflare9078X1 has that primacy and nostalgia bias just like the og mega man 2. I played those games with the legacy collections, thus have no nostalgia for them and I honestly can’t see x1 being better than x2 or mm2 being better than any of the subsequent nes games. I love all of them tho, still did not play x4 and beyond.

Can we have a look at the backgrounds for Nightmare Mother, High Max, Gate, and Sigma? Take a look at the two figures for a moment. Nightmare Mother shows an Incomplete 'Demon' with some kind of headless 'Angel' standing next to it, fully complete. But then, for Gate and High Max, the Angel is suddenly chained and decaying, while the Demon is rebuilding itself, hunched as if dormant. And finally, Sigma's room shows a completed, roaring Demon while the broken and decaying Angel stands beside it. Symbolising Sigma's return to life or Gate's path of darkness?
Aah, childhood memories. I remembered how me and my cousins used to play the Megaman series(this one included) so many times, trying to beat all of the levels(and yeah, frustrating as hell, being young boys and all). Perhaps it's time to pick up where my younger self left off and finish it for real. For reigniting my fire of life as a hardcore gamer, I thank you for all the games you have played and recorded until now. And once again, magnificently done once more. I finally remembered how satisfying it feels when you finally beat a really good game, and it's the reason I love replaying the games over and over again(heck, even my big sister complain a lot on how I didn't get bored at all!).
I like to think that the Maverick Virus just turns their victims into Zombie-Androids which is why X & Zero can finish them off cause of theyre repeated patterns

I completed X6 2 - Days ago. I give it a 70% score. It is more fair than Contra and other Bullet Hell & Run & gun games(Even though these aren’t that style they are a good representation of being hard)
Well it had the most rushed development cycle out of the three, so there are a lot of messy levels. But that doesn't mean there isn't stuff to like about it.
Agreed, X8 is mostly overlooked because of the bad taste people got after X7. It has two shitty bike levels but is all around pretty varied and challenging.
Honestly, this game would be my favorite X game if it weren't for the heinous difficulty. So basically, had they made the stages more fair, and seriously nerfed the Nightmare Mother (which is definitely the hardest boss here imo), I'd absolutely adore this game.
It would have been nice to see mentions of what parts were used and what difficulty you played on - I know you used Ultimate Buster on Turtloid, for example, and the game itself seems to be played on Xtreme Mode. Also, the Blade Armor giga attack grows in power the further it goes - using it right in front of the Nightmare Mother's cores is a waste. Absolutely badass finish, though - Blade Armor's mach dash is a beauty.

I mean don't get me wrong the game does have some bad moments(the fly like nightmare that follows you around, Blizzard Wolfang's stage and a couple of other things). However it's not a bad game in fact far from it.

The biggest problem I had with the PS-era games was the extremely unclear hitboxes. There are so many times in this video where X is quite clearly making visible contact with the enemy sprite, and nothing at all happens.
Was this on Xtreme or Normal difficulty? Either way, it's not something I've seen attempted since Hideofbeast did his no damage run years ago. So good job!

It's just one of those learning every pattern platforming game like battletoads, high risks comes with high rewards. I'm planning on doing a rework of this game, two things that I'll try to do would be making the nightmare mother the final boss instead of Sigma, and either doing away with Sigma or making him a secret boss.
What is the trick? Super low frames per second, then speeding it up on post processing? This video and the gradius V one left me no doubt about it. Still love your work, though. keep it up!
And this again. Honestly, I am surprised Shadowserg didn't stop his work entirely yet. Because I already did mostly: I'm not usually irked by comments too much but seeing assumptions that I cheated somehow is at the very least annoying. Especially when I actually know how much time and dedication these videos take to record (like terabytes of failed attempts on HDD for a single boss sometmes).
Just lots of practice. Gradius V is a fantastic game and once you play it enough you actually can complete it flawlessly. I know, I spent a good month playing it on a daily basis. Not saying he didn't use trickery but if you have the time and patience, trickery isn't necessary.
Dude, chill out. Love these videos cause they give a sense of how these should be played, on an ideal level intended by the developer. I am a pretty good player myself, the type who loves beat challenging games in a near perfect way. The point is: I know what is a pattern and what is not. I know what you can predict and what not. These two videos have both. Not trying to party crash or something.
And not everything should be predicted. Often good reflexes and some luck are enough to dodge even the unpredictable attack. As the one who recorded almost the same amount of perfect runs as Shadowserg I see no cheating here. And don't tell me to chill out.

I can't believe how inconsistent the sprites are this game is. Some bosses look great, some look from a fangame.
At least the majority of the levels dont use dirty jpegs for the tilesets,its an upgrade compared to X5 and it was produced in less time

Thanks to this game, it sucked me in the franchise except for x7 (I never played it but watched reviews from it). I guess that's the whole purpose why I get addicted to hardcore games like dark souls

I used to have Megaman X collection for PS 2 in 2005...but Megaman X 1 through 4 is hard to beat but Megaman X5 & 6 is much easier to beat!!!

And this again. Honestly, I am surprised Shadowserg didn't stop his work entirely yet. Because I already did mostly: I'm not usually irked by comments too much but seeing assumptions that I cheated somehow is at the very least annoying. Especially when I actually know how much time and dedication these videos take to record (like terabytes of failed attempts on HDD for a single boss sometmes).
Just lots of practice. Gradius V is a fantastic game and once you play it enough you actually can complete it flawlessly. I know, I spent a good month playing it on a daily basis. Not saying he didn't use trickery but if you have the time and patience, trickery isn't necessary.
Dude, chill out. Love these videos cause they give a sense of how these should be played, on an ideal level intended by the developer. I am a pretty good player myself, the type who loves beat challenging games in a near perfect way. The point is: I know what is a pattern and what is not. I know what you can predict and what not. These two videos have both.

And not everything should be predicted. Often good reflexes and some luck are enough to dodge even the unpredictable attack. As the one who recorded almost the same amount of perfect runs as Shadowserg I see no cheating here. And don't tell me to chill out.
