Definitely. The only horrible thing I didn't like with X8 was Gigavolt's stage. Many lives were lost out of simply not knowing what to do with the stage at first. Gigavolt himself was fine with me

Because there you at least get a callback to an earlier game (though the localization team buggered it up by not fully translating "Launch Octopus") and actually get to see the Maverick virus turn a bot from rational to murderous lunatic. But other than that, yeah, pretty much boils down to X saying "stop it!" and the boss saying "never!" and then they fight.
Like other X games with dialogues, you kinda need to play the game a couple of times(ie. enter all the bosses with all 3 characters) to get the whole story. The ending for example slightly changes depending on who dealt the final blow against Lumine. Both X and Zero ponder about what Lumine says while Axl's gem is eerily focused on, implying Lumine's tentacles did *something* to him.
The Optic Sunflower's overdrive attack is simply absurd but nobody cares. He uses a HUGE SATELLITE WITH A GIGANTIC CANNON IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BATTLE, as no one realized the absurdity of it?
