I grated 3 Granny Smith apples (2 cups) and added them to the batter. The result was delicious: The brownies are moist, with a unique texture and slight tang from the tart apples without the unpleasant pickled taste of the sauerkraut. Thanks again.
Agreed. I tried this recipe today because I'd never heard of baking with sauerkraut before and I was like, "That sounds so strange it's either going to be delicious or gross." The initial flavor was nice, having a slightly tart, chocolatey taste, but the aftertaste it left was unpleasant. The recipe seems like it would make a good basic brownie, though, so I'm going to try it again this weekend without the sauerkraut.

I’d recommend replacing the sauerkraut with something like apples since apples don’t have a lot of flavour
