Hi love the show , I was with Paul in the priory , I was 19 years old at the time, from Scotland , we had the same addiction, I meet Paul in the smoke room and we got on right away , he was going to Japan with the mondays , he was away for two weeks , the legend that he is , he came back to see me in the priory brought me cigarettes from Japan and then arranged for me to leave the rehab with Paul , he took me round Manchester in a little Volvo with pop up lights , then took me to my fist meeting in moss side, he was a great lad , I am now 44 years old , clean for 20 years , and three beautiful kids, thank you Paul,
wow, amazing - he would be so proud of you. Big congrats on your sobriety. xxx
These interviews are hands down the best thing on RUclips.. absolutely loving every one of them ❤
Thanks so much! xxx
Hear we go again...hope all are well n good ..these Sundays with the Mondays are a must
I absolutely love this series, Paul Ryder was one of the best bass players in rock music his basslines were so unique and delivered with passion. Thank you for giving us an insight into Paul and the Mondays that is honest and real.
You're so welcome xxx
These self taught council estate bassists have a much better feel and groove than grade players that get to grade 8 or whatever and can play fast and technical, Paul, mani, Simon Jones , Jim Goodwin ..peter hook . All from that area and all unique with incredible groove .. Would be great if someone isolated pauls bass parts with Ai software so we could hear kinky afro, loose fit, performance etc without the music to really highlight his ability and groove
@@TheDreamer1980 well said and very true, the Grade 8 crew are musical snobs with a superiority complex, I learned this very quickly as a music student. I was self taught and grew up on a council estate and the artists you mentioned were not just musically inspirational they gave us hope that we could achieve something positive even if we had a modest background.
Some of the middle and upper classes have no appreciation of their privilege and are usually always mediocre. When you have to fight social and financial boundaries it gives you more determination to succeed at Arts , Sports and Music 🤓
@@tleaves915 could prob say that for drums, bass and guitar even vocals, certain swagger and groove middle classes don't usual have, unfortunately those strong characters don't usually stay together long-term like a Coldplay or keane type band , brightest stars burn out fastest , saddest thing is those characters and bands are gone forever, a, quick look at any festival these days is depressing, I live in reading by the site but haven't been for over 10 years, nothing worth seeing , even 20 years ago it was great 30 years ago every day and stage had great bands on, I honestly think in another 20/30 years music and festivals, gigs will almost be done.... Tragic but even being born 82 I feel lucky , those who grew up through the acid house / Manchester era I hope they realise how lucky they are, I just missed it but grew up with oasis, verve, Nirvana, was a great time
I think it speaks volumes that all the band members have similar memories of event's...hopefully help dispel some of the myths that exist
Such honesty and openness. These are such a wonderful recording for so many reasons. Ang, thank you. Huge hugs to you
And hugs back to you too xxxx
I love how Pauls' smile was just the corners of his mouth turning up. Reminds me of my face.
There is still no help for depression etc. I went to NHS counselling and they turned me down, while the DWP are on my back to get a job. I cant claim to be unable to work, as anxiety and depression are not enough evidence according to them.
Angela, you've changed so much! But your voice hasn't. You look much more attractive (and younger) now, than back then.
Awww thank you - and I hope you get the help you need xxx
Hi everyone Great show again. I remembered Paul and Shaun falling out big style by 2000 as i went to Glastonbury knowing Paul wouldn't be there. I remember it being a crazy gig and roweta nicking shauns hat on stage and Shaun going mental. Memorable gig but not the same with out Paul
Oh yeah man, that show is up on RUclips. I watch it all the time. I always wondered why Paul wasn't at that show!
I ❤ these, everything laid bare. It feels like you know Paul and can't help but feel empathy for him.. I hope there's a few more to come yet. I tell everyone c×nt I know to watch it.
Yes - at least 7 more eps to come! xx
Great stuff. You know summat is quality when you dont want it to end. ❤
Aww happy to hear this xxx
If you fall out with your bro, sort it out, get to the bottom of it quick and bury that bile. Give him a hug and draw a line in the sand and move on! Sean will be regretting shit, I know he will, I did! My brother took his own life for other issues in his life, but our little issue remained unresolved and it was too late. Tears me up still. Don't let it fester, put it to bed people.
I'm so sorry to hear of this. I'm sure he's forgiven you and is watching over you from upstairs.. sending love to you xxxxx
@@glisteningstories I like to think so. Thank you x
Likewise my friend 👍
Shaun feels no regrets judging by the Songs he's written about his Bro. There's "Yeah Yeah Brother" from IGWYS!
then there's my personal fav on the recent Black Grape LP. It's titled IN THE GROUND I'm not gonna be buying anymore of his records.
My main thing is Paul's heroin addiction was a victim of circumstance finding out his Wife was cheating on him went to his Addict Bro asked for kit & Shaun gave him it, as a Brother even friend he should have told him to f'off. You never give your friends or family Heroin when you been through it all, that's pure hatred I. My eyes. The dirty fkcr!!
you are sadly missed basslines too, hope you're sitting upstairs with all those Manc Music legends.
RIP Paul 🙏 W.F.L
This is one of those series i already know im going to re-play over and over once its done. REST IN PEACE PAUL 🙏 & ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD TO ANGELA AND THE MONDAYS! ❤
Thanks so much - love right back atcha xxx
Another fantastic episode. ❤
xxxx
Been glued to these over the last couple of months. Brilliant to hear another side and didn't realise so much was just stories and myths. And the mums are great. Thank you for doing them from a long-time fan.
So glad you're enjoying them! xx
Another great episode , love the "Big Arm * track that end's this installment. ❤💯💢💥💫✌️👊
Big Arm material will be released November 5th! xxxx
@@glisteningstories 🍻 cheers , remember, remember the 5th November..💯👊🙌✌️
This series was brilliant, it brought laughter and tears, and tears of laughter, mostly it brought a thought of what a beautiful guy he was
Awww thank you Chris for the kind words - means a lot xxx
What a top bloke... totally real and down to earth.
Put up with shuans bullxxxt.
Im privileged to of seen em at 20yr old at Glastonbury.
I have the same addiction and its truly shuch a drain on you to live with for family too...
Im proud he could even function with that fame and money, lovely couple you to are/were.
❤❤
Thank you. I hope you get the help you need - it's so hard I know but you can do it. Never give up. Paul will be talking more about the things he did in the next few episodes that might help you xxxx
No horse no Mondays!! They supported oasis 2001 in Edinburgh wasn’t the same!
Great show once again, loving it.
Thank you! xx
Although it's tinged with sadness I'm really enjoying these. Thanks.
Happy to hear this! x
Well done getting this down before he left us.
I lost my younger brother to addiction related suicide and spent 20 years doing the NA ockey cockey myself, it can't be easy being a celebrity in recovery I've seen how people change around celebrities, I'd imagine it's the last thing Paul would want.
Rest easy lad the music will always be here.
Good work Angela ❤
Awwww so sorry to hear about your brother. I'm sure that's something you can never truly get through. Hope you're finding your own peace and serenity. Many thanks for your kind words xxx
nice seeing muzzer on here after reading about him for years.
Muzzer is a star - more coming from him xx
I've caught up. Talk about becoming emotionally invested. When Paul said about clocking a user from a mile off from the stride, the fixed, vacant look, I know exactly what he meant. I work in HMO's and can spot 'em a mile off too.
Yup me too x
Tremendous as per ❤️ very emotional episode. RIP Paul
xxx
Out aftershave each other ! 😂
The worst of competitions.
So funny I know!!! x
Muzzer , Thought you locked up for life??? Nice one 🤙🏽
No he's not! Thankfully!! x
Love how chilled paul is you can just tel he was a all round top bloke such a shame RIP
He really was xx
Love this episode
I was at that Middleton gig Muzzer - Civic Hall 84/85😊
haha!! x
Love it .....put that in your step one 😅 good on you Paul
ha ha yes!
love watching this...Shaun you have your mothers ears.....
He does!! x
I'm from Bristol, and was very much using back at that time, mental!!! All he would have had to do back then would've been to go to St.pauls and he would have got brilliant stuff off the street!! It was mental back then
I'm sure it was - hope you're doing well now xx
Thanks Angela ❤️
Thanks for being here Stella xxx
Hello from Spain x
Hiya Stephen - glad you made it! xx
Thanks good to be here
@@glisteningstories was it Clouds the rehab in the SW ? I went there and know Robbie went years before me.
Hello from a manc living in
Sri Lanka
thanks for the episodes as of time difference I don't listen to these until Monday Mornings
Happy Mondays .
Paul you are and always will be a legend rkid .
Very quiet tonight. Quite devastating talk
@11:03secs Re:Shock = Rash! 😂
haha
We didn't buy fly house
🙂
Comparing them to Pink Floyd is a bit of an unfair game, Pink Floyd could be right in the pocket even if they were given a straight jacket to wear - (I don't know, I guess their music is kinda like a cross between Dream Theatre and Pulp and even then with a bit of hope - comparing the HM to Pink and Talking Heads is as so leftfield it's in the wrong stadium, let alone pitch) kind owhereas the Monday boys could let their hair hang down a bit more with jamming and improvisation in the live shows.) They were such a tight unit, I bet you get the recordings from their live shows in early '69 and the only thing that makes it recognizable that they're playing live is the crowd noise - they were still a young and hungry band they just COULDN'T let themselves falter! The Mondays? - pPPppHHhhaaaarrRRRrrr...
Yup!!!! x
Pink Floyd bit like a bus or coach and HM like a sports car. Arguably. Maybe.
