    I love my black eye Susan . My neighbor has some and down our path I fond some growing a few years back . So I dug them up , brought them home and planted them . Folks they died deader than a door nail . So I tried it one more time . Same results. So last year I bought some seeds . They did awesome. Well they seeded off and this spring they came up and now are blooming. So I had some out from the main ones so I said I’m gonna try moving them to see if they will live . And y’all everyone is Living. Yea . I didn’t kill them this time . And before I dug them up this time I just pulled them up and slapped them in a pot . So now I have a nice pot full and this fall I have a place I want to make a bed of them so that’s where they be heading. Happy growing y’all from North Carolina.

    I love your voice 😊 so gentle and kind ❤ I've been trying to grow a wild flower meadow. It's going very slow. It's the third year, and I'm hoping it shows its potential soon. Thank you for the video. I'm seconds away from planting more seeds in the windowsill. 😊 the purple cone flower and columbine came up great. The four varieties of lavender, false sunflowers ⁰and black-eyed Susan's not so much. Not sure what went wrong. Some came up but not very impressive. So, I'm trying again😂

    I love your soothing voice and the music was a good choice to pair with it. It’s very helpful to see how you harvest seed and I appreciate you showing the weird flower as natural. It looks like a butterfly, don’t it?!
    When is a good time to plant Susan’s (I’m in zone 7B)? Is it easier to start indoors and transplant out or is it better to directly sow into the ground?
    I’m doing a 7x7’ space, with 12” garden tiles, 4 centered irises, and Susan’s around that. My maternal grandma was Iris and Susan’s are the state flower of my home state. I may even hoist a MD flag up out there to represent.

    • @abeautifulnest
      @abeautifulnest  2 года назад

      Hi Karen if temperatures are warm, you can actually start seeds now for a late fall bloom. They will be killed by frost. If you don’t get fall blooms sow in fall for spring. Rudbeckia is sensitive to transplanting so if it’s your first time I would recommend direct sowing. Happy gardening! 🙂

    Wonderful !! I can’t wait to grow my own!.. I just moved into my first home and I started a flower garden on my front porch that’s 6x40 ft long made some long flower beds for my new friends.. Well we got hit with the hurricane on the East coast few weeks ago some some didn’t survive the winds 😔 …. So I trimmed the plant back and kept it , I saved the seeds…
    Do you think it’s to late to try and grow new ones in September? It won’t start getting super cold till 2nd week of November here temps at night are at low 70’s and high 60’s but day time we are still in 70-90 degrees…. Lol sorry I’m a little new to this garden stuff lol thanks for sharing!!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽 have a great day !

    Thank you for this video. Very educational. I have a question if you don't mind. One of my susan plants looks so droopy. We have had a large amount of rain and is in full sun. My instinct is to water it. Should i just leave it alone. Do you dead head your plants? Thank you Cindy

    • @abeautifulnest
      @abeautifulnest  5 лет назад

      Cindy Layton Yes dead heading is good for it! It does need water if it’s enduring drought. Though they are drought tolerant plants they do require water in extreme temperatures. Happy gardening! 😊

    A great helpful video! Just wondering... I'm in Australia so we have the odd very hot windy days (42C) and infrequent summer rain. Do you get the same heat or should I try growing these plants in more shaded positions? Also, do they need to stay moist? Or can they dry out between watering? Many thanks! 😊👍🇦🇺

    • @abeautifulnest
      @abeautifulnest  4 года назад +2

      Jony Beck These plants are drought tolerant and can withstand high temps. They thrive in sunny or part shade, they are from the wild flower family. Like most plants they will need a shower from time to time. It gets really hot here in the south so I can understand your growing conditions. Eek! They reseed very easily so plant them where you would like a full lush border. Happy gardening! Hope you subscribed!😊

    Hey there! It looks like the black eyed Susans with the green buds coming from the “eye” have a disease called Aster Yellows. My question is, do you have this every year, or does it remove itself? I have coneflowers that had it last year, and I’m trying to decide if I should dig them up so it doesn’t spread, or will the disease die off over winter…?

    We’ve just had our first frost, and I have a bunch of BES seed heads. Should I plant the seeds now in the fall or wait until the spring? Thanks!

      Plant them in the fall and early spring for ongoing blooms. 🙂

      @@abeautifulnest thanks so much! I’d love to have them come back next year since they bloomed so profusely throughout the summer.

    I’m in zone 7 can I plant seeds now for growth next spring? Or is it better to plant in early spring?

      Sow them around November-December so they can go through a cold spell. They will germinate in the spring.

    We're into fall here in WI. I have seeds to plant and I've never planted them before. Do I wait until next Spring to sow the seeds?

      Hi. No you can plant them now for next spring and sow them again around January or February for another set of blooms, succession sowing. Happy gardening!
