As a dark-skinned black man (who grew up in Philly) this cleared up a lot for me. Thanks for discussing this topic!

Thank you everyone. I feel Dr. Lashawn Williams and more people like her are needed in the media for the church and as professionals at BYU and other places.

With tears in my eyes I my heart aches for anyone who has been deeply hurt because of the color of their skin. I happen to have white skin, but I was born and raised in NZ. I had a Samoan stepfather, Uncle in law, brother in law and son in law, all of whom I deeply love and admire. I know they are all beautiful sons and daughters of our ALL LOVING Father in Heaven and Savior. As a church, I pray that we can throw our arms open as wide as we possibly can, to include ALL of Gods beautiful children and do everything in our power to right the hurts that have existed for far too long. Thank goodness for a Prophet who wants to right the wrongs, the pain, and all the hurt that has existed in our past. I pray that going forward, we will through our arms around all our brothers and sisters in Christ.♥️😇🙏♥️

Thank you. I have heard and read a number of interpretations on this theme. This one sounds the most correct. As a white person from South Africa, I can testify that a black skin has no correlation with level of righteousness. Some of the most spiritual people we met during extensive travel in the church were Black folk.

Such a beautiful discussion and insights. I loved all the points raised. So enlightening! In addition to the Hebrew points, I also love the perspective of man will be punished for their own sins and not Adam’s transgressions. The issue of being raised from the waters of baptism means you are pure - NOT CURSED! So important to remember.

This was really great. I think sometimes we try to understand scripture with today's understandings and/or misconceptions.

I think discussions like this on sensitive verses in the Book of Mormon will help large communities of colour to understand and appreciate what God has for them all, love and eternal welfare of their souls. I love the Book of Mormon. It teaches me to come unto Christ. My skin of colour has nothing to do with my character and what I can become if I choose to follow, or not, the gospel of Jesus Christ.

It was great to hear the explanation of why blackness is not about skin color, but it still does not address why the Church denied the priesthood for so long. In the film"Green Flake" it shows that initially the priesthood was given to black people in the church, but the racism of some members caused policy to change. I don't understand why this went on so long. I am a faithful member of he church but have struggled with this issue since my conversion.
