Thank you so much this is my home my grandparents came down to Elizabethton from roan mountain. Shell creek is when my great grandmother Stella shell is from. I was born of Tennessee Carter county parents in Flint Michigan. 6 weeks later they moved back home and I have grown up here. I was raised in valley forge. But also in Elizabethton as my parents divorced when I was 6. M moved us on the mountain that my great grandfather who was still alive at the time owned. His name was Hank Alexander Franklin he was a decent of the brother or Ben Franklin. This small place was always my place of peace and so much love. Having multiple generations. Alive during my childhood was wonderful and they all taught me Carter county's history which makes me a historian now

Great video it's nice to know the local history. My family's from the tiger Creek area on tiger Creek road. That's considered Hampton. But it's before you get to roan mountain. We used to live in Hampton in the Wagner house across from the Shell service station. It's gone now that I think they tore it down to build a Dollar general or something. My grandparents that raised me was Jim and pearl Miller. My grandmother was from Dennis cove mountain she was a whitehead. That's on my mother's side. Nathan and Bonnie Chambers was my grandparents oh my dad side. My grandmother on my dad's side was a burchfield. My father was JB Chambers he got killed in 1968. Between Hampton inn valley forge he turned the truck over and it caught on fire and burned him up. He lived a couple days and died. My mom was Virginia Lee Miller. Her nickname was Bea. She died in 2021. I hope they are together again. My grandpa on both sides of my family helped cut the timber when they built watauga lake. In 1949 it was at full pond that's the year my mom was born. They flooded a little community called fish springs. That's where my grandma Pearl whitehead was born. How she was raised on Dennis cove mountain. Like I said thank you for the video I enjoyed it and do one about tiger Creek area before you get the roan mountain. Going up 19e like going to banner elk North Carolina. I live in Alexander county North Carolina now. Thanks again and stay safe. ✌️

Well done. As a new study of Carter County history this video broaden my knowledge. Thank you. One minor point however, 1:06 citizens was not yet a happening thing. Colonists not citizens at that time were born in what they called the Americas. The US constitution reads “We the people” as to be correct with a combination of people born in distant holdings of the crowns of Europe. I think the 4th president was the first American Citizen elected. Gotta love history.

You made no mention of the labor movement in Carter County. Carter County was a most pro-labor county in the Country. You could have mentioned Dayton Phillips, Congressman who may have been the only Republican to vote against the Taft-Hartley (slave labor) Act. There was a strike at the rayon plant(s) in the 1930s. The mountain people there were quite "liberal" in the years before 1950.

Thanks for mentioning that you're talkin about the CCC camps. Civilian conservation corps. I'm from Hampton Tennessee and I have people in my family that work for the CCC camps. Stay safe ✌️
