    I'll give Kia credit the exhaust tips are actual connected exhaust tips. Even premium brands have been trying to pass off fake exhausts lately.

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 4 года назад

      I'm not a fan of faux exhausts either but the design is a response to consumer complaints, especially owners of premium vehicles, about "sooty" exhaust tipes.

  • @stephenhendricks103

    Here in the Pacific Northwest the Soul must have the widest demographic appeal of any vehicle. Seattle hipsters, downsizing seniors, small families, car pool commuters, and the snail mail delivery person on my small island in the Puget Sound all drive and love 'em. And speaking of islands, at less than 14' in length the Soul earns a discount on the stiff fares aboard Washington State ferries. Few other vehicles qualify and none with the 66 cubic ft of overall cargo space. Makes those Costco runs a snap. One of the few downsides of the GTLine? The center exhaust makes fitting a trailer hitch difficult if not impossible. And that means bike(s) have to be carried inside or on the roof. All in all the Soul is a magnificent vehicle. Honda and Nissan must kick themselves for failing to hire rodents to sell the Element and the Cube.

    • @ThisGuyRides
      @ThisGuyRides 5 лет назад +2

      I drove an Element for 15 years, and it's not in the same class with Soul, Cube or xB.

      @@ThisGuyRides I'm still driving my 2006 Element. Honda's sloppy advertising/lack of advertising around the Element was a disgrace. The Element should have been a contender on so many fronts... Now, I'm in the market for a new vehicle - but you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm keeping my Element! 😎❤

    • @BigSam63
      @BigSam63 4 года назад +1

      The element was in a different segment than the soul, cube or xb, much larger vehicle overall.

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 4 года назад +2

      @@BigSam63 The Element (169.9") was a bit bigger than the Soul (165.2") and the Scion Xb (168.1") and considerably larger than the Nissan Cube (156.7") but I'd say that it was in a "different segment" is a bit of a stretch.

    Liked this review and vehicle. I wish Kia would offer AWD, and expanded options with the 6MT.

    • @loganholmberg2295
      @loganholmberg2295 5 лет назад

      Yeah they need an AWD option. I love that my Serria has AWD and I couldn't live without it anymore.
      Side note: People say why do you need AWD why don't you just put it in 4x4? It turns like shit then so getting out of my parking space can be difficult in 4x4. Also once snow hits the ground or I go offroad I put the truck in AWD and only use 4x4 when I need it. Much more fuel efficient that way.

    • @JeremiahMulford
      @JeremiahMulford 5 лет назад

      THERE IS an AWD Option. It's only available in Korea though. I own a 2010 Kia Soul and one of my passengers, I do uber with my car, Was an engineer for Kia, and told me about it. Said the reason we don't have it here is because Kia doesn't wanna get into a pissing match with ford over AWD Suv/Cars

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 4 года назад

      @@JeremiahMulford Perhaps you should confirm what your Uber passengers tell you. As far as I can determine KIA does not offer an AWD version of the Soul anywhere. There was talk of an AWD Soul about 5 years ago and KIA explored the possibility. But when they asked Soul owners and potential customers about it they found little demand. In fact, about 1/3rd of current Soul owners believed their vehicle already had AWD. :)

      What many who haven't lived in climates with challenging winter conditions don't realize is that a small, light vehicle with the engine weight over the front drive wheels and a good set of snow tires will perform as well as an AWD vehicle about 95% of the time. I learned that many years ago living in the snow belt of NY state with a Saab 96 that never left me stranded.

    Kia/Hyundai are offering that 1.6T in damn near everything they sell. I'm more interested in getting it in the Forte or Elantra. The base engines are substantially more efficient though, I wish they could improve the 1.6T in that regard. If you look at numbers and performance data, Kia/Hyundai's 1.6T is very similar to Honda's 1.5T, but Honda's engine is way more efficient..

    I hate my 2016 Exclaim. From the rattle behind the steering wheel that sounds exactly like what speedometer cables used to sound like, to the groaning suspension that creaks and squeaks backing out of the driveway or going over speed bumps, to the overly sensitive key fob that I can't leave in my pocket because the slightest movement sets of the panic alarm, to the falsely listed EPA rating of 27/31, to the rear seats that rattle when in the up position, I can just go on. The steering wheel rattle the dealer claimed couldn't be fixed because they have no idea what would cause it, because it does not have a speedometer cable, and there really isn't anything back there that would rattle. The groaning suspension I've had 2 dealers tell me can't be fixed, claimg "it's a vehicle characteristic". The gas mileage situation when I lived in an actual city never got higher than 22 MPG, usually more around 20, and I don't drive that fast. I didn't start getting 27 MPG until I moved to the country, and have to drive 15 miles to the nearest walmart, and there isn't even 1 redlight between me and there. It's basically full on highway driving, and I still don't get 31 MPG. Oh and i forgot the fuel pump that went out at 50,000 miles, leaving me stranded on the side of the road 200 miles from home. I'd think twice about buying a KIa if was you.

      That’s the law for start/stop systems. For the manufacturer to claim the better fuel mileage using the system, it must be the default setting. EPA regulations. There are cars that don’t have the feature. Buy those.

      MegaRobot445 This car is very popular and has a loyal fan base. Maybe someone in the aftermarket will add a LED strip inside the stock light bar. I gotta admit that Hyundai/Kia does some great design and engineering. It’s obvious they put a lot of thought into it when you see the clever design and packaging of cars such as the Telluride and Soul. I saw and sat inside a new Telluride and was blown away by the looks, quality, presence, and the sheer amount of space. All in a $32K truck the size of a Ford explorer.

      Jose S.M. I had 2011 Kia Soul some years ago....got hit by a nasty blizzard on my way home from work around 1 am. Probably dumped about 6 inches of snow in an hour, made it home with relative ease. Since the car is so compact to begin with it’s honestly hard to lose control and if you do it’s very easy to get her back on track. You won’t be driving through no mountains but she’ll hold her own in some pretty rough weather.

    It's not a crossover because no AWD? If you *buy* a SUV *without* AWD, which is the larger take rate in the US, is it not still a crossover? AWD doesn't = crossover IMO. Otherwise any bought without AWD is not one either. Just being available shouldn't be the standard.
