Terrific review Zack, your way with words is refreshing and unique and you always keep the audience engaged. This is what happens when you have a company that’s tried to push against the tide for as long as Toyota has regarding EVs. I’ll stick with a 2009 RX450 Hybrid with well over 200,000km. Everything works perfectly, the battery is in good condition even though it’s 14 years old, and on a 4000km interstate road trip it still gets 8L per 100km. It’s also worth about a fifth of its new RRP but Lexus….give me one good reason why I should trade up to your new EV offering?
Totota and Lexus recommended charging this car and the Bz4x to 100 percent. They recommend 80 percent for level 3 charging only. Most people buying this car already own their own home and doesn't rely on public charging
Isn't it better to make more EVs with less battery material than less EVs with more battery material? I'm in favour of less battery to minimise weight, I don't think it will be possible to build an electric 1000kg MX-5 with a big battery. The excellent Mini Cooper SE achieves a kerb weight within 100kg of the Mini Cooper S ICE (and thus handling very similar to the ICE model) by having a small range, which should be the target for most EVs. Granted, 71 kWh in the Lexus RZ is quite large, the Lexus must just be incredibly inefficient due to Toyota/Subaru's immature technology.
Toyota is betting on hybrid for the near future. This is a compliance car and to satisfy the tens of customers who asked for a Lexus EV. It's disappointing that Toyota's EVs are so disappointing but they're still pouring their R&D money into hybrids and letting everyone else spend money on EV research. At least this one has a nicer design than the bZ4X. This would be a decent second car to run errands in as long as the buyer has a gas/PHEV car.
On the contrary, I don't understand why people want 500kg/1000lb batteries in their electric cars. Granted, 71 kWh in the Lexus RZ is quite large (probably close to 1000lb), the Lexus must just be incredibly inefficient due to Toyota/Subaru's immature technology, old-fashioned 355V architecture etc?
Zack, you are hardest working car reviewer on RUclips. I’d never buy this car but I will watch you review any car!
I like the 80’s arcade intro 😃
1:13 - Is it based off the Solterra? I hear Subaru fans blame the Solterra on Toyota's BX-whatever-it's-called.
I really liked the RZ, I just found the energy consumption high and range low (like you did). I love the RZ in 2 tone with the copper paint

I hope that roof tech is durable.
Another good video. Another car I wouldn’t buy even if I had 80 grand.
Won't be long before someone names their kid "Thunderstorm Suede".
Agree that range is pathetic you have to ask why even bother with it at all
It's a compliance car. Some markets require carmakers to offer a full EV option. Toyota and Lexus are still all-in on hybrids.

Ok, but give it 5-10 years and the range will be a joke. This is why ICE must stay @@TassieLorenzo

All EVs suck and they always will.
It's the first full EV from Lexus in North America, Europe has the UX300e which came out first. I'm not sure if Europe gets the RZ though.
This thing Is a lot prettier then the bz4x that thing Is hideous but yeah the range on this sounds terrible especially for $66k
I’d pay the $200 for the l lighted Lexus logo but not the rest of the car
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet wow who knew LEXUS would do something like this
As a Lexus fan from Day 1, I hate it.
Well I LIKE LEXUS vehicles big or small

Very interesting
Zack i love your content dislike EVs 100% cant stand them. Life is better with no EVs!
Looking for a similar ev with better range?
Probably would be the lyriq.
Toyota really has to fix the range issues with their electrics.

Hi there.
I DONT FEEL SAFE WITH A GLASS TOP. I WANT STEEL.
Nice looking, but I wouldn't buy one for that price!
Plus it’s a EV
wait…first? 🤑
