I live on the lake , there’s been talk of it taking 12 years to repair , and possibly be turned into a hydroelectric dam . I’d like to hear more from the Corps of Engineers about their plans .
Wow! That was very interesting to see! Such a vast difference and so much lovely green grass. How long will the repair take so they can fill it up again? Thank you for sharing!
Mr Mack. That was a beautiful place, and I am glad you shared the video and history . It's funny how mother nature can work so fast to cover the lake bottom with grass after being under water so long. It's just amazing.
Oh my I just saw your video, I made reservations at South Abutment for Oct. 8 - 11. Site 21 which I hope is a good site we have a 40 ft fifth wheel. My husband and I are coming from Alabama to check out Soth Abutment and North Abutment.
Wow...I came there as a child with my whole family for picnics boating skiing swimming...all the way up til I was about 25...I'm 65 now and was looking up where I could go to take a dip and find this!! The lake is gone lol just like the lake in Fried Green Tomatoes that the geese took with them
Because RUclipss search sucks, I couldn’t find this video a week or two ago when I was looking for more than just the local news from 3 months ago, and to day it showed up in recommended. Anyway, thanks for the video, I need to make it out there and check it out for myself.
@@SouthernBlessedHomestead that’s what my dad was saying. I’m interested to see how they fix it. They will likely build a temporary spillway and dam up then block off where they need to work. It would be a good time for them to install hydroelectric there, but I don’t see that happening.
Yes they did drain lake around 8 years ago or so. Took 4 years or more for all the under growth to finally clear out. I hunt there a lot fish boating etc. itts gonna be a long time before it’s right again.
@@dandodson6406 oh yeah I forgot about that. I think they were working on the outlet tunnel. Yep they pretty much ruined that lake for a long time. Appreciate you watching.
I live a half mile from one of the boat landings , speculation is that it will take 12 years to repair, and there’s talk of changing it to a hydroelectric dam , I’d like to hear more from the Corp about their plans , and timeframe to get the lake back !
As a long time regular visitor of Arkabutla, you are very accurate. That grass didn't waste time germinating, thats for sure. Many times over the years ive walked the shore of the lake but now i can almost walk the lake. This is my excersice place and I'm here very often. Since alot of the trails are closed, i walk the horse trails, they do just fine but watch out for some horse surprises 💩😊. We first visited here in the early 80s when i was 13. After about 5 years of working, i decided to make Arkabutla my days off getaway. 35 years practically every day off, im there excersicing and enjoying the peace and quiet.
This was pretty cool to see and very interesting Mack. Our rivers here don't have enough nearly flat froubd to do those horseshoe turns, that pretty cool. You did a great job. The music choice was good too btw. I wonder if what's happening up north impacts what they are doing at all? I'm curious about how the grass all sprang up though. It's beautiful however it came in.
There are Native American burial grounds out there that have been exposed and a group of people robbed them. Police are looking for them, it was on the local news.
It's amazing how seeds servive under the water and start to grow when kissed by the sun.
We were thinking the same thing
wow hope they get the dam repairs finished and the lake filled back in
We sure hope it’s soon, but probably not.

Great video!!! I grew up camping at the Corp campground. I have seen it down but never like that 😮! Thank you for sharing 👍🏼
@@trayce81 thanks for watching.

Not sure how long it will take, they haven’t given a timeframe for it.
That is just beautiful and amazing!!! Great video. ❤
Thank you 😊
I hope they get the repairs done quickly so all can enjoy the lake again!
Me too lol
I think the worst part is the damage to the fishing industry around here.
Great video
Thank you Mr Willie
Very cool and thank you for sharing m friends!
Thanks Mark

We we’re definitely surprised at how thick and beautiful the grass was.
I haven't been to Arkabutla in years....
Well if you live anywhere near there you should go check it out.
@@SouthernBlessedHomestead Maybe if I can get to a 164th retirees luncheon I can check it out...;-)
@@Ammo08 who is this?? Lol
Horseshoe Bend does that too in Arizona
I googled that and saw some beautiful pics of Horseshoe Bend
@@SouthernBlessedHomestead Snake River is like that too.

We just drove by there yesterday and the lake is filling up some, It’s still very low but doesn’t look as bad as in the video.

Thanks for watching

That's some fertile soil for the grass to grow that fast✌😁
Yep
Wish i could get some of that dirt for our garden lol
Wow it’s low
Yes it is

Wow! Very cool that you got to see the lake dried up. Just a note this might be a good opportunity to get a metal detector out there.

@@SouthernBlessedHomestead oh gosh!! Yep you better steer clear of that idea then!🫣
Was it drained to fill up the MS River? 🤔
No the damn has structural damage
Have you seen any geese/ducks
Not lately but I haven’t been by there in a couple of weeks.
How bad was the fish kill? Any idea when there supposed to be done tia.
I really didn’t see any dead fish in the lake but the river was loaded with them. Paper recently said it’s going to be about 9 years. Crazy
