I don’t know… There is not a lot of civilian tilt rotor pilots it’s going to take a lot of training this seems like the start of some really bad mishaps at least in the beginning.

All tilt rotors are deathtraps. Simply on paper it’s a terrible idea. And the private sector????
Private aviation is already 200 TIMES DEADLIER THAN COMMERCIAL.

Great to see! Nice looking aircraft. Still terrifying that certain vortex ring conditions can be entered that are non recoverable. But then, helicopters have been flying for many decades and mostky avoid this too. Tilt rotors certainly seem to have a big role to play in developing different technologies and offering alternatives to conventional airframes and helicopters. I can see a flying doctor service in certain remote parts of the world, perhaps utilising the high speed in and out to the scene, but able to land in restricted areas as with a much slower helicopter. What an amazing world we can make it if we try hard!

Awesome to see! But, the biggest risk that remains with this design is asymmetrical vortex ring state. Many a V22 met its demise through this. Not an aerodynamically solvable problem. Early warning systems probably has the best chance to mitigate this.

Probably the easiest solution would be flight computer programming. Basically the same sort of self preservation that an Airbus would do should the need arise. How exactly to do that? Well, I'll admit, not my area of expertise but it seems like the easiest way to counter it.

Although probably no safer than a helicopter in vertical lift scenarios when something malfunctions, if there’s a mishap during horizontal flight, this is a much more survivable aircraft. It can glide somewhat or even fly to relative safety depending on the situation. Helicopters, on the other hand, have been a death trap for so many poor souls, even right up to now. I feel like I read about another helicopter crash every few months. If anything goes wrong in a helicopter, it’s falling like a spinning brick while the pilots fight in vain to put it into the theoretical autorotation they were promised in flight school. Multirotor craft are the future…at least until we’re allowed to know about antigravity tech. 🕵️‍♂️

It’s got a cruise speed of 320 MPH, a top speed around 350 MPH, and a range of over 2,000 miles. Both its stationary and in-flight maneuverability are supposedly a bit quicker than a helicopter, too! Tilt rotors will likely never become a success, no true benefit, too fuel inefficient and too maintenance intensive, plus very high operation costs! But most of all there massive larger requirements for t/o and landing space compared to a helicopter and their limited benefit of faster cruise speed, considering the constantly increasing cruise speed of modern helicopters!

Due to the cost of development, the civilian section can't afford the tilted rotor on its own. That huge budget naturally only allocated by the government to the militaries and that the reason the civilian tilted rotor couldn' t go ahead of the military one that it piggybacking.

It's very close to type certification. This being a new type of aircraft in the FAA view, they have had to work extensively to create a new tilt rotor class of aircraft. The new class takes inspiration from parts 23, 27 and 29 portions of the certification code.

As long as Augusta Westland doesn't do the Boeing thing where they play fuck around, and find out with their design, and quality control then this should work just fine.

AW609 have its own problems. One hull and crew lost in high speed testing, flight-control logic flaw. That was seven years ago. Cert. should happen this year (but they said same in the last year)
