  • The Present Simple (Indefinite Tense).
There are 3 basic or general tenses in English language
    Past Present Future
Each of them is divided into 4 groups
    Simple
    Continuous
    Perfect
    Perfect continuous
But we do not need all of them now
We will talk about The Present Simple today.
Lets see how is it formed!!!!!!!
We take a verb V and then add to it endings S or Es (in the 3 person singular he she it)
Let’s take for example a verb To work and make some simple sentences for you to understand better
Firstly, we need to get rid of the particle To that stands before a verb.
So we have now only work let’s take a word combination to work in an office. In this case we have ending S.
Smt a verb has an ending ES, it happens when the last letter of a verb is a vowel, let’s see some examples:
I work in an office I go to the shop
You work in an office You go to the shop
He works in an office He goes to the shop
She works in an office She goes to the shop
It works in an office It goes to the shop
We work in an office We go to the shop
You work in an office You go to the shop
They work in an office They go to the shop
Another rule: is when a verb has the last vowel letter Y, with a preceding consonant, in this case Y is changed into I end has an ending Es
    Examples
    I study at the university
    You study at the university
    He studies at the university
    She studies at the university
    It studies at the university
    We study at the university
    You study at the university
    They study at the university
Then we need to know how to make questions in The Present Simple Tense. And here are two auxiliary verbs that will help us Do and Does (the 3 person singular He She It). To make a question you need to put one of these verbs at the first place and to get rid of the endings s or es. Let us look how does it work:
I work in an office Do I work in an office?
You work in an office Do you work in an office?
He works in an office Does he work in an office?
She works in an office Does she work in an office?
It works in an office Does it work in an office?
We work in an office Do we work in an office?
You work in an office Do you work in an office?
They work in an office Do they work in an office?
Another question arises: How to make a negative form?? Auxiliary verbs will also help. If we want to make a negative statement we need to use Do not (don’t) or Does not (doesn’t)(for the 3 person singular He She It) and the main verb doesn’t have any endings. Let’s look at the sentences:
    I don’t work Don’t I work?
You don’t work Don’t you work?
He doesn’t work Doesn’t he work?
She doesn’t work Doesn’t she work?
It doesn’t work Doesn’t it work?
We don’t work Don’t we work?
You don’t work Don’t you work?
They don’t work Don’t they work?
How to make questions with negative form??????? Easy!!!!! Just put don’t or doesn’t at the beginning g of the sentence.
These were the rules how the present simple is formed.
Now we need to know when we can use The Present simple tense
    1. Permanent truth
We use the present simple tense for statements that are always true
Summer follows spring. The Earth goes around the Sun.
    2. The present period
We use the present simple tense to refer to events, actions or situations which are true in the present period of time
My father works in a bank. My sister wears glasses.
    3. Habitual actions
We use the present simple tense to describe habitual actions, things that happen repeatedly
I get up at 7. John smokes a lot.
    4. Future reference
This use is often related to timetables, programmes, or events in the calendar
The concert begins at 7.30 and ends at 9.30.
    5. Observations and declarations
We commonly use the present simple tense to make observations and declarations in the course of conversation
I declare the exhibition open. We live in the time of internet.
    That it!!!!!
