My guitar has the same issue! It was converted to a Floyd rose and the bridge did the same thing this guitar did. however I'm not skilled enough to do this so i instead drilled holes to replace the Floyd with a solid bridge this has worked Great! However i will need the tremolo later on so i will save this video to do so. awesome work can't wait to follow along!

Another great video! I have a 2004 Mexican strat, that has the 6 screws on the bridge. For years I coveted the newer bridge, until this video. I think you are saying that the 6 hole bridge is the original bridge?
Thanks again, I learned a lot, and I appreciate what I have, as it is a terrific guitar, other than the poly paint bubbling and peeling where I’ve played it. It’s honest wear, from many hours of playing. I keep saying I am going to paint it in black rattle can nitro lacquer.
It’s late, and the video did the job as I am ready for bed, lol. I have some questions about my 1986 Les Paul custom I recently acquired. Where can I submit refret, and truss rod questions? The action is perfect, but the truss rod is almost maxed. However, with a light tap on the bare rod, it moves towards the bridge. Obviously the rod has moved towards the headstock, out of its original location. Is there a way to get the rod to seat into its original position? I placed a second half moon washer on the exposed treaded rod, and it gets straight easily, but I don’t like the fact that it has moved. Thanks steve

Thank you Steve. Those more detailed questions are best directed to my Patreon channel. I have a 1959 Les Paul Junior refret coming up that may answer some of your truss rod concerns. Very Best ! Congrats on the new Custom ! Very Exciting. MMcC

Great video Michael - as usual Where can I buy those direct mount pivot posts that you use? I can only find the the machine thread type that require the threaded insert. Is there a make/model that you use? I don't want to end up with some chinese pot metal posts that will crumble after 10 seconds of minor pressure. Thanks!

I pulled those out of my old Fender Parts Kit. The Fender part #'s are displayed on the bottom right hand side of the Spec Sheet that I wrote up... they were available in Gold / Chrome / Black. Not sure if those exact parts are still available. You'll have to check with Fender. MMcC

Great videos! Can you tell me where to buy those side grain maple dowels? I need to do a similar job on my strat

They are 1" diameter maple dowels. I rotated the dowel in the hole, to get the best grain orientation. Good Luck !

Do you think alder is too soft a wood to have bridges like this? Seems like this is far too common.

As an 11 year old kid in my Dad's ( Frank McConville Sr ) shop in the early 60's .... I got my first guitar ( a 3 pickup solid body Harmony ) and proceeded to sand it down / swap out the pickups for Gibson humbuckers / put a Fender Telecaster neck on it.... lmao now when I think about it .... Lol ! Ha! In those early days ... there wasn't much available in terms of info. The few people that I approached back then, were very secretive .... and reluctant to share anything. This experience left me bound and determined to learn all I could .... and to share everything with everyone ... without any type of hidden agenda. I did open up a store back in the 70's ... but soon found out after 3 years of operating a music store; that retailing was not for me. At that time I was also offering my services to whole-sale distributors ( Fender / Great West imports ... among others ) ... picking up 12 to 20 guitars at a time, and setting them up for the distributors before they were shipped out to the stores. Later, when living in northern Quebec, I was approached by the Minister of Cultural Affairs and encouraged to apply for a research grant. After securing a few modest grants ... this allowed me to design and build my first moulds jigs and fixtures for my shop .... which led to those first few guitar builds. This also led to the consequent early research on the design of a multi-adjustable stringed instrument workstation. I eventually ended up creating the curriculum for the Guitar Repair and Design courses at Conestoga College. It was in these classes that the first patented commercially available StringTech Workstations were used, for the 6/8 students per class that attended the courses over that 23 year period. Any of my College students will attest to the fact that there were no " trade secrets" in our classes. I kicked open the garden gate .... and gave them everything I had ... joyfully. A very gifted former student ( retired Police Chief Greg Pigeon ) stepped up to the plate, in order to oversee the production, marketing and distribution of the various tools / jigs / fixtures and workstations as my business grew. Greg's enthusiastic and skilled contribution, has allowed me to continue to focus on these videos, and carry on the tradition of sharing. I am forever grateful to be in my little shop; and to provide Repair Services / Repair Tips / Workstations / Jigs / Fixtures and Supplies; in modest quantities, to all who are interested. I am also very grateful and humbled by the support and encouragement of my subscribers ... both Patreon and RUclips.
I suppose that ... in a nutshell ... is what has happened so far ..... to be continued. Joyfully, MMcC
