Going to try this! Like the comment below, the cause of my shortness of breath now for 5 days must be some kind of horrible strain on my diaphragm. I am a Firefighter, played sports all life, and work 60 hours a week and eat healthy. I have a pulse of 50-60 and great lungs. I am in an intensive military selection training plan and 5 days ago started not being able to breathe right at rest. No abdominal or chest pain, has to be this!
This is very common it seems, from the comments. Happened to me too. The pop was more felt than heard. Abd there was not really much pain. But it felt like something gave or spilled out around bottom left ribs in the front. My pain very mild and only feel it with a certain angle on dips or when heavy weight with deadlifts. Was worried about a hernia or something. Post if you have any updates
Two ways that cures my rib pain: 1) Chop 2 or 3 pieces of fresh garlic and with a glass of water swallow it like the way to take tablets. Do this twice a day you’ll see a great improvement! Trust me it works! I have been going through this rib pain without fractures after a fall I recently had. So I know what I am talking about. Plus this I also do the next. 2) Heat some water from your stovetop; pour it in a small bucket or in a box( whatever you please to use) Fold and Soak a small towel in the hot water ( not a kind of hot water that will burn your skin) squeeze the water out the towel with both of your hands and put the hot towel on the affected area press little bit on it for 30 to 50 second so that the heat from the towel will enter that particular area to heal you! Repeat this until you feel that there’s no more heat in the water. Also do this twice a day. I suggest you have someone that you trust to do this kind of massage for you while you Peacefully lay yourself down. You will feel amazing! These are some amazing remedies! Do both until you are pain free.

Thank you so much! This is my EXACT issue. My pain only occurs when I'm doing ab exercises. I hate it. It hurts. But I'm going to keep doing these exercises. I appreciate it you.
During my first pregnancy and delivery, something painful happened on the left side of my rib cage, right where you did the first “claw” grip in the video. My youngest is now almost 4, so I thought it was strange that that spot on my ribs has been suddenly bothering me again. There’s a tingling when I lean a certain way, and I get a Charlie horse from that spot into my diaphragm at least 3 times a week when I bend doing normal things like spitting toothpaste into the sink, grabbing my purse from the passenger seat, sitting up in the tub, etc. It’s so intense I feel like I can’t breathe or get it to untighten. Today the Doctor ruled out anything major, so I’m going to try this method in your video.
Gosh u r an angel thank u so much..i knew i had to do some sort of stretches or exercise but this was specifically what i needed so thank u sooo much 😇🙂🙃🙂 i had the sudden pain start yesterday n i dont know if it had anything to do with my fever..but im recovering now..and im always an active person so thanks a million! :)
I have this pain constantly and they don’t know what it is. It’s so terribly painful and I feel like I’m being squeezed around lower ribs on both sides and I have chest pain. I’ve been checked for everything and it makes me feel like I can’t breathe either.
We have the same problem. How was it? can properly breath now? Mine feels liks my lower ribs spasm or harden that i had to put my hands on them so i can breath. This usually happens when im exerting involving my arms and when i bend. Also even when i walk i feel like my muscles squeeze making it hard for to take in air or oxygen. I also suffer from indigestion (no heartburn or acid tho). I get easily full even when i just ate small meals. I dont know if this relates to my muscle strain in ribs or diaphragm 😭
@@manifest9726 hii! Yes, im fine now. No medication needed, i didnt even see a doctor. I just got fine overtime. I had car accident 6 months ago and since then I have constant pain in lower ribs and difficulty breathing, had to call ambulance several times and all the checks from doctors said I am healthy, no pancreas problems, no galbladers, no guds problems, they said its depression and I am taking pills for depression now and its still the same, still pain and difficulty breathing, and this video is like I believe I have this problem.. can I try this exercise and releasing even through the pain and big discomfort?Thank you so much
If this works I'm going to laugh really hard at the money I just lost yesterday. I had pancreatitis once about 6 years ago and I just started getting pain at the bottom of my right rib cage after picking up my running routine after a few month break and thought it was my pancreas again. Finally went to the ER last night and they said everything was perfect with my insides. If it was my diaphragm all along I swear....
Sly Sab that’s a dumb rule to live by. Injuries are something that needs to be looked after and cared for. Pain from lifting when the lactic acid builds up, that’s good pain.
Thanks so much for your excellent video. I have had pain in this region for two years (all investigated and clear). The muscle under the rib is really swollen and agitated, when I pop my fingers under there and breath in, it pop across the rib and is quite sore. I feel like the digging relieves it, but kind of aggrevates it afterwards. How long/often should I do this before I can see a change?

Sir, its been 1 month the pain is occurring on my upper right abdominal i left doing workout but still it pains sometimes it get worse specially when i do pushups and it will increase from right lower rib to the behind shoulder blade, once i took medicine for 2 weeks at that time it was healed but after 1 week i started gym again that area started paining. Please tell me sir what should i do to get rid of it?
I just had a very scary experience and I'm really confused on what could have possibly happened but your pointing to the exact place where I was in severe pain I was doing a situp and out of nowhere a severe pain appeared in the same exact spot you're pointing under my left rib cage which made it impossible for me to take a deep breath I was fixing to go to the emergency room and I tried one last thing because I was panicking I got on my teeter hang up I hung completely upside down and like a miracle all the pain went away but what's got me worried is what caused it and how it could have corrected itself just from hanging upside down
For me, these relax the diaphragm, but it also hurts during the exercise because I stretched the diaphragm when I was going to dive, I breathed in too suddenly and I felt that it stretched in the same place where you showed me... will these exercises help me to feel better because I feel fullness and slight pain inside?
Thanks goodness i found your video i always had pain in that area and have been thinking it was my abs the whole time. I can breath so much better and it feels like blood is flowing in my mid section
Hello Sir, was working at the gym, and was feeling like having a sharp pain on my right chest. So I ignored it and kept on working, about 1 month of still working I realized I can’t breath well and feel like choking evening. I have stopped gym for about 2 months but have breathing issues and sometimes my right chest will stiff or swell making me feel pain on my back and shoulder blades and neck. Did chest check ups and lungs they said am fine. Can I try the elastic on my stomach and do the breathing to help. Please please reply me when you see this
sounds like you are having some anxiety causing the tightness in the chest. Do box breathing (4seconds in, hold 4 seconds, 4 seconds out, hold 4 seconds) all thru the nose for two minutes 4/day.
I get these lately----Similar to a calf cramp in your leg, but occurs along a thick muscle just below the bottom rib on my right side. Hurts like hell and behaves just like a leg cramp (quivering, etc) until it finally goes away. Very localized, with no other symptoms. Maybe I tore the muscle while coughing, or lifting something? Who knows.
notrombones doubt you tore the muscle. Either diaphragm is cramping or you are deficient in Calcium and Magnesium. I’d recommend 1000mg or calcium citrate and 500mg magnesium to see if that won’t help calm the cramps
Hi so I’m pretty sure ever since I’ve started playing basketball like everyday for at least 2 hours I started feeling this sharp pinch under my left rib like under my left rib but on the inside so yeah can U plz explain what exactly is going on
Hard for me to know without seeing you but if exertional (basketball) the diaphragm is probably getting fatigued and then cramping. Consider this release and then building endurance with activities like blowing balloons up on your non-basketball days.

My horse spooked sideways to the right and I fell backwards to the left towards his left hind quarters but pulled myself back up to sitting while I was twisted to the left. Pain started soon afterwards below my left rib cage. Four days later the area below my left ribs and halfway around my back is still very tender. Using ibuprophen daily , iced for 72 hours, now heat. How long do I let this heal before I try this release?
I got pain in right side of rib after I did yoga side stretches.i stopped for 15 days and it was good but again when I started doing other exercises,I feel the pain especially when doing Russian twist and hip dip exercise. What is that sir? Plz reply
sounds like either the internal oblique, external oblique or transverse abdominus was strained during the stretching. I would start doing side planks (7s hold with 2 second rest) 12-15 each side each day (2-3 sets) and avoid twisting motions. If the discomfort during the activity exceeds a 3/10 VAS pain then an evaluation is probably necessary. I'd be happy to do a Zoom consultation
floating rib could be irritated from coughing/sneezing or could be the cartilage. You can do light pressure above or below the rib (between the ribs) but not on the rib itself.
Could a rib be subluxed or slipped if when I’m doing seared twists, there is a sharper pain when I twist in the direction of the side that hurts. Middle ribs / middle back of spine where it attaches. Seems to be tender spot on ribs and can wrap around, my breathing has historically been shallow and I have right shoulders, anterior pelvic tilt, tightness on that side of my back when I do basic cat/cow yoga pose.
No subluxed or slipped rib without trauma. Sounds like you have thoracic spine (t-spine) mobility limitation in rotation. Try a 90/90 t-spine mobilization technique. Here's one of my favorites...ruclips.net/video/CqOjxk9xcno/видео.html

They did all the procedures x-rays blood work electrocardiogram, everything came back good myvitals were pretty good too. I really appreciate your video.
Sounds like you have a first rib issue putting pressure on the brachial plexus. The pressure on the nerve is why the arm pain occurs. I usually see these symptoms wrap under the armpit.

Hi The pain in my left rib is still slightly there, I have done the exercise both using my hands and using a band around my waist, but as I breath in and out there is no any pain , only a feeling of a bone ,but no pain
bone or between the bones? Sometimes the tissue between the bones (intercostals) get irritated. You can place your fingers between the ribs on the site of pain and apply moderate pressure for 30-60s on each tender spot while breathing in thru your nose and out thru your nose
Hi, I had a subacromial decompression and bicep tenodesis two days ago, and while my arm and shoulder feel okay, my arm sling is causing extreme discomfort of my diaphragm and -Psoas muscles. It's unbearable. Is there any way to relieve this as I have to wear sling for 6 weeks? I've already tried releasing the waist strap and using a pillow in place of the wedge. I'm trying to maintain a decent posture and relieve some of the dead weight of the arm....Please help if possible. The pain feels like something is pulling/twisting diaphragm causing. Extreme pain all around. Bottom of ribcage and up thoracic vertebra.
sorry I didn't see this questions. Post surgical pain like that is likely due to air in the thoracic cavity and putting pressure on diaphragm. GasX helps but it will pass shortly
I have been getting some pretty intense pain in the ribs during/after heavy squats recently, the pain isn't that bad when I'm actually doing the squat, it's when I re-rack the bar and come out from under it that it hurts. At first, it was mostly in the middle of the back in the ribs, near the spine, now, it actually changed places and it's closer to the obliques/hips. The pain eases after my squats are over and I don't feel it much the rest of the time, does this sound like a diaphragm issue? I know it's not the lats because I don't hurt when I do chin-ups or rows.
sound like the thoracic spine joint is getting irritated from the wrack position. try to keep spine straighter coming in and out of the rack and see if that helps.
@@EdwardLeCara Well, not entirely sure what is wrong but I've been doing this routine you show us here plus some rehab for intercostal muscle injuries and things felt significantly better today, so I think it's either the diaphragm or the intercostals.

awesome! glad it helped!
These exercises helped me so much. I released trapped air I'm my intestines
How do you know?

Thanks a million, i got relieved after doing the first exercise:)
Glad it helped!
Two ways that cures my rib pain:
1)
Chop 2 or 3 pieces of fresh garlic and with a glass of water swallow it like the way to take tablets. Do this twice a day you’ll see a great improvement! Trust me it works! I have been going through this rib pain without fractures after a fall I recently had. So I know what I am talking about. Plus this I also do the next.
2) Heat some water from your stovetop; pour it in a small bucket or in a box( whatever you please to use)
Fold and Soak a small towel in the hot water ( not a kind of hot water that will burn your skin) squeeze the water out the towel with both of your hands and put the hot towel on the affected area press little bit on it for 30 to 50 second so that the heat from the towel will enter that particular area to heal you! Repeat this until you feel that there’s no more heat in the water. Also do this twice a day. I suggest you have someone that you trust to do this kind of massage for you while you Peacefully lay yourself down. You will feel amazing!
These are some amazing remedies!
Do both until you are pain free.
Worth a try.
Thanks so much doctor it's what is happening to me now. Exactly this is the solution I've been looking for thanks lot , feeling relieved now

Thank you so much sir. Was in pain since yesterday and now after seeing yoir video i did get relief 😊
I’m glad the technique helped 😊
Same here. Going to see the doc tomorrow
It was the problem with me and I got rid of only with the help of this video
Thanks man saved my life ❤️

You are welcome!! Glad it helped!
How are y’all?

since everything else has been ruled out, I see no reason not to try this approach for pain relief

Joe Mac sorry man. I hope it helps!!
Read my comment, I have prolonged a chest xray and furthur blood test and pulmonary stress test for this reason im sorry!!!
Hello Sir How are you Sir As I have been having rib pain for two monthe I have that pain when I sleep

Holy shit I’m definitely not gonna try this then I already have pain and don’t want it worse by doing this.
Hope you guys are ok!
Pain or exercise...hmm I think I can live with the pain!
CFS Unravelled change should be fast...couple days
This is EXACTLY what my pain feels like, also been like two years, xrays and doctors couldn’t help or find anything wrong but this video helped!
Can u please give me an advice what did u do about that ,, i have the same thing 2 years now ,, i would make everything to be back normal again

i have supragastric belching.may i try this excercise?
Yes you can!
I did the release and it relieved a lot of pain and tension. However…I now have much worsened pain in the posterior side/dermatomal thoracic area.
Can i contnue my workout or rest
Thank you Dr , that’s very kind.
but in my case , the rib numbness comes only when I fall asleep , after I wake up it’s not there any more . So confusing, I don’t sleep much . If you have any suggestions please .
Are there any exercises to prevent this? Your video really helps but I hate doing it because it’s uncomfortable. It’s worth it to feel better though.
Breathing exercises like box breathing (nasal breathing) 4 second (s) inhale, 4s hold, 4s exhale, 4s hold for 2 minutes 1-2 day
I just had a very scary experience and I'm really confused on what could have possibly happened but your pointing to the exact place where I was in severe pain I was doing a situp and out of nowhere a severe pain appeared in the same exact spot you're pointing under my left rib cage which made it impossible for me to take a deep breath I was fixing to go to the emergency room and I tried one last thing because I was panicking I got on my teeter hang up I hung completely upside down and like a miracle all the pain went away but what's got me worried is what caused it and how it could have corrected itself just from hanging upside down
Gas my friend
@@EdwardLeCara - Thanks 4 the response. I've started taking CalMag lately. Hopefully it'll help.
I do home workout at home and i get pain below the chest and lungs some time not continiously and some time i gets pain above the lungs can i get relif from this method of treatement or should i consult to the doctor sir?
Also, do you have video(s) for tennis elbow therapy?
dorothy'spage channel look on my IG BFRMasterclass
no but I can do one this week for you
would that area be swollen and puffy? i tripped over a flower pot and a week later i was in horrible pain.
It was really relieving. I wanted to know, what caused this tho? So I can avoid doing it again
Glad it helped. Hard to know what caused. Usually overuse of the diaphragm.
Thank you sir this was amazing i feel better alhamdullilah .
Glad it helped!!
My diaphragm spasm is scary it pops right out and got stretch arms up to ease it a go pure white near enough pass out then I usually be sick or have diarrhea this whole process coukd last for 30 mins then muscle sore for about a, week afterwards a have been a plaster for 22 years am left handed and it's at my left hand side do think this is just wear and tear on my chest muscles and side with been left hand side
Is it possible that by hanging upside down I corrected the same muscle that you're talking about?
Not the same muscle...probably the stomach and diaphragm alignment.
I do pushups yoga ,rigorous non wt lifting exercise ....i have pain under the last rib for couple o wks...when i wake up from sleep or lying down or sneeze ...its little painful and it also makes some releasing(like bile release) noise in epigastric/stomach region .
Is it some kind of sphinctor problem ...but i dont have GERD
And i feel pressure on lying down from abdomen towards chest .
Whats your say on this ?
This just help me so much!!!
Can I connect with u, m facing similar problem while work out
One year down n m still facing it
I got pain in right side of rib after I did yoga side stretches.i stopped for 15 days and it was good but again when I started doing other exercises,I feel the pain especially when doing Russian twist and hip dip exercise.
I sneezed and suddenly started to feel pain near the diaphragm area what should I do?
I have painful diaphragm spasms and they hurt really bad I'm a child and I feel like I'm dying
What if you have pain on that floating rib. From the left side to the back area along the lower rib cage? What could this mean?
floating rib could be irritated from coughing/sneezing or could be the cartilage.
Any advice on chest discomfort? I went to ER about two weeks ago because this pain your describing, accompanied with chest pain and left arm pain I was afraid there was something wrong with my heart.
@@EdwardLeCara I will certainly try your exercises, God bless you greatly and thank you so much.

This is great. I’m enduring my third diaphragm spasm in the past few years. Each has been torture, especially at night can’t lie down without intense extremely painful spasms. Have to sleep upright, or try. Got any suggestions for the back. This works great for front rib cage but I also have horrible pain all the way around to my back
sounds terrifying 😰 is there no cure? / relief?
I was laying on my side and twisted, i felt like i moved something out place below my left ribs. I got scared and couldn't fix it. Turns out it wasn't my ribs(that i know of) , but the long muscle running from your neck to lower back. I pushed my knuckles into it(super sore & tender) and took some deep breaths. My body works, but can't tell if im still in a panick attacked state, cus im still feeling a bit worried. I did a back workout yesterday, so maybe thats why. I hate being scared and not knowing if I'm going to die(lol). Anyways, been a while since everybodys comments on here, hope you all are healed and feeling normal again..
Diaphragm game calls ??
Been suffering through a sinus cold and upon having a strong sneeze while seated on the sofa I felt a large pop under my right side lower rib followed by much pain. Pain persists and flares up while sneezing and coughing more, breathing is fine but area just below the right side lower rib is very tender and painful to the touch. I tired this technique but the are appears very swollen and I cannot push my fingers through this area, extreme pain. there is no pain in breathing just when I cough and sneeze. can you suggest any modifications to this technique to get me relief.
you probably irritated cartilage. I would apply as light of pressure as you can tolerate for 60s in each tender spot
I am getting this pain after doing abs workout
try “neutral” spine activities like plank, side plank and reverse plank (glute bridge). then eccentrically load your rectus abdominus.
What is a belly breath? In my body inhaled air goes into my lungs, not my “belly”. Speak to the technique please, because “belly breath” doesn’t help.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I had a car accident a few months ago and i had whiplash and cervical bulging discs now ever since then I’ve had pain in my diaphragm and trouble breathing multiple X-rays lung tests all that come back fine had an endoscopy it seems to be fine but my chest barely moves when i breathe it makes it hard to sleep the pain and the stiffness will this help with that ?
honestly not sure without evaluation. This could be worth a try plus breathing exercises. I will put a link below with the breathing exercises
Thank you for this video it helps right now
Welcome!!
Hi
The pain in my left rib is still slightly there, I have done the exercise both using my hands and using a band around my waist, but as I breath in and out there is no any pain , only a feeling of a bone ,but no pain
bone or between the bones? Sometimes the tissue between the bones (intercostals) get irritated. You can place your fingers between the ribs on the site of pain and apply moderate pressure for 30-60s on each tender spot while breathing in thru your nose and out thru your nose
I tried this it felt so weird like something moving and shifting
Can you perform the first part of the video on a slanted pillow ?
julie kane I don’t see why you couldn’t be on a slanted pillow.
I have my right rib severely paining me about 3 months now cam i get help am realy suffering
@@gymguy25 great
