It feels oddly satisfying to find out that I've been doing it right, despite all my riding friends telling me I need to rev high and launch in 2nd gear. I just did what I do to start from a stop but faster.

Pretty nice video for basic launching. Only thing I would add is using your feet, and or rear brakes to stay in place while you release the clutch a little past the normal friction zone. The difference is minor, but noticeable after some practice.

So this is something that I need to learn and fast bc I feel that the drivers around me think I’ve been riding fit a while and know how to gage off fast but in reality I just stared a week ago and I take off so slow 😬😬
Hey man. Your vids are great. You should do a vid on how to know when the front is about to give under full lean. Its the only thing that stops me from cornering harder. Im talking road bike road tyres, Hanging off ala motogp. Not counterweighting like on a dirt bike. Thats easy.
You know you hit middle life crises when you are watching more and more motorcycle videos and you want to buy one. I never in my life had one, I always wanted, but because im 6 foot 7 I always thought I would look stupid on a bike. Now after few kids and white hair, i kinda don't care how I would look on a bike, I want one.
The clutch.. I was launching and thought I was already on basically full power, so I just released my clutch the rest of the way at that final 5-10% was enough to clutch up and I wheelied away off the line.
The question is whether this method outperforms just enabling launch control (on a newish, 1000cc sport bike), pinning the throttle wide open, letting the bike manage power, and you just manage the clutch? Is that not how launch control systems work on professional race bikes?
Handy to know. Especially the idea around trying to ride clutch at same rate as throttle control. Question: say bike has great low range torque..instead of a 1st gear launch.... could a 2nd gear launch be quicker? (Thinking for example. Duke/rc 390 or smc690 kind of bikes)
On 2 stroke its a bit diffrent because you gotta ride the clutch almost whole first gear with higher revs because of the power band and how easily they wheelie. But as soon as possible full gas without clutch.
That was really informative Mike. I'm racing with supermotos for the first time this year, I'll give good use to this advice :) Quick question, do you use the launch control in the 450?
I assumed this was just intuitive. Maybe its because my bike has terrible low end torque that I naturally started to use this technique, but I'd like to think I would be doing it regardless. Perhaps because I can't drive a car I haven't had my technique diluted with a different style so it seemed easier for me to understand. I'm honestly not sure.
I would not fully agree with you. It's needed to differentiate between different szenarios. For a quick start at the traficlight I would agree that the engage the Clutch and roll the trottle technice is well suited. Also for a Racestart with bikes that have good torque curves even at low rpm. But on Trackbikes, 1000cc and even more the 600cc this is far from optimal. There you better go with the keep the rpm and modulate the clutch technique. Keep the rpm right around the tourque optimum and try to hold it there, close the clutch to just right before the engagementpoint. On green/lights out you engage the Clutch quite a bit and then modulate it for that point where the frontwheel just wants to leave the ground. Some people even add in some modulation with the rear brake. Getting this right are the fastest starts for Sportbikes. At least in my opinion. Here is why: Given, that we all have to start in the first gear and can't increase our torque by shifting down, we generate maximum acceleration force at the peak point of engine torque. As reving up is very slow in comparission to releasing the clutch, we want the engine to be at peak torque from the start. Now is peak-torque often to high a the given maximal acc force of about 1G so we need to reduce this. We could lower the rpm, but as I said the rpm changerate is slow esspecially the change from accelration to decelleration, and by increasing the rpm from rolling open the trottle we would once again increase torque, and could get into wheely. Because of that its better to keep the rpm constant at a point where we have to much torque and then reduce it by letting the clutch slip. With this we can modulate the rearwheel torque way faster and more precise. then in the later stages, when you have the clutch engaged for 80-90% you can start to roll open the trotle and let go of the clutch to make a smooth transition. But as I said, this just goes for Sport/Trackbikes, Supermotos with there small rpm range and wide torque band are a completly different thing, there your style is very well suited.
If you still can't get it right. Then maybe that should be even more reason to buy or build an Electric motorcycle. It's much easier to launch, just twist & go. You can balance the grip & anti-wheelie like that. You can even have the left lever be the rear brake, and many motor-controllers have a connection to the brakes, for Regenerative-Braking, meaning, when you squeeze the Brakes, the Controller knows, and cuts "throttle" input. So not only can you comfortably use your whole right hand on the throttle, not only can you secretly twist it enough for you to accelerate hard enough without doing a wheelie or flipping the bike. But also, you just have to let go of the rear brake to launch at the "throttle" input you're holding. I say "throttle", because Electric motors don't have throttles, they have Accelerators....theres no throttle bodies or Carbs...

But when I was riding around at night, most houses dark, few cars on the road, many people sleeping, mainly me & nocturnal animals outside. I literally felt like I was flying in a dream. I don't think you can comprehend how much I love that. Or how much I love the natural sound of electric motors. They're like gas-turbines no one else can hear, but me & dogs. Riding on the sidewalk, sneaking behind walking people, literally 2meters or less from their butts, parking my bike in fount of an address they just passed, never knowing I was behind them the whole time. Not disturbing people & animals, except obnoxious dogs losing their minds, and no one knows why. Flying through neighborhoods, hooning & practicing, without waking people up. I'm sick of maintaining an engine, I'm sick of carbs or whatever failing, when I just want to ride. That is what made me want to move away from building a hybrid, and just focus on swappable batteries or 15 minute DC Fast Charging from 20% to 80%, which is faster then I can take a break eating something. And honestly, I'm sick of shifting. Random things happen, that make me forget to downshift. Then I become a sitting duck on the road. I just want to stop and immediately dash out of situations, and just focus on my line and trail-braking. I want to move around like those vehicles from F-Zero X or Redout. I grew up with NFS games on Manual, and I know how to get the most out of my legs or an engine. And I have delivered on a bike with a clutch lever before...but I've been getting more & more angry about shifting. Having to remember what gear to be in, and when, but I have so much on my mind already. Avoiding potholes, broken glass, big garbage on the road, standing off seat to run over things I can't avoid, do I need to standup or repoint the bike mid-corner, what's that car about to do, what's THAT car about to do, what's that pedestrian about to do, how much front & rear brake do I need now, what's around that obstacle, what did the customer just text me, what address am I looking for, is the food I'm carrying still ok, who is around me, who is the customer. I ----ing hate shifting. And normal kickstands. Even if I had 10,000watts of power, shifting would still make me miserable. And that's another thing I have to worry about failing. I've been stuck with weak bikes for so long, for multiple reasons. But I will be so much happier with a powerful electric motorcycle/maxi-scooter, DCFC or swappable batteries, better weapons for self-defense, and a better, full-suspension I can fully adjust. I don't know what got you into motorcycling, I don't know if you're a Squid. But I don't need gears & loud noises to keep me from being bored on a bike. What angers me, is not having enough power, because of poverty and bad timing. What angers me even more, is when I finally do have the equivalent speed & power of a 300cc, those pests the police, will become a financial & physical threat to me, even though I am not hurting, threatening, or cheating anyone else, over unfair rules & requirements some parasites made up. All threatening my job & happiness. I don't think you know what bored is.
@@FlameHazeist Then the real game begins, delivering around a city, saving to buy or build an even stronger electric motorcycle, with the added element of police, and not going too fast during a delivery, because my coward & incompetent employer, wants everyone faster than a bicycle to register their vehicle, when that may not even be possible for me, and as an Anarchist, I will never do. Maybe you can answer this question. What is the point of vehicle & weapon registration, beyond government monitoring what we have, and charging us a fee for that information? And if registration is truly just for the police to recover anything lost or stolen, then that makes registration even more useless to me. The police are not guaranteed to get anything back, let alone in one piece. And I don't need their help. I don't want their help. I hate them all. They & the government disgust me. @@observingrogue7652 I don't think you know how to have fun on a bike. Noise is easy to keep down with the stock exhaust and low rpm's. Shifting becomes a non-issue after you get used to it. Maintenance is a non-issue when someone else can do it for you. Reliability is a non-issue with Japanese bikes. When I rode again for the first time in 3 1/2 months in -7 C weather, it didn't feel like a dream, no, it felt like I was *alive*, blasting through the countryside at 90 kph while surrounded on both sides by fields of snow. Nothing can compare to the feeling of going through the gears and hearing the sweet rumble of the engine while going as fast as you dare to. You're poor and yet you want an electric bike... I don't know what to tell you. Honda Dream 100's are dirt cheap to buy and maintain, and it was the most fun I've ever had riding for the first time ever during my trip to Vietnam. Having a fast bike is nice, but what is even nicer is just riding without a care in the world.
This is almost exactly how I launch my bike and was beating most people off the line last year. The only difference is when I Rev the bike up, I don't just hold the throttle in one spot. I found constantly giving short burst of throttle to keep the rpms up at a certain spot works for me. Otherwise my throttle is either not enough or the RPM are way too high (redline comes at < 1/4 @ neutal) My local track does test n tune drag nights often so I have alot of experience with my bike on the drag strip lol. It carried over to racing as I beat most people off the line
What happens when your 125cc motorcycle barely accelerates because you weigh 230 pounds and are just shy of the 270 pounds carrying capacity? I always tend to over accelerate because once I release the clutch it will tend to choke and turn off
i tried to do launch control at like 4-5k rpm but did a high power wheelie instead, i dropped it with the footbreak but i wasn't aiming for a wheelie🤣🤣 i want a quick launch.
Probably because they only practice race starts once or twice before each race. I found after years of taking my street bikes to the drag strip, that racers (regional anyway) don't have the best launches. Last year I was a novice racer and launched past most of the amateur racers and even catching the pros
just here to ask if launching the bike is gonna do some wear on the engine. as a honda cbr 125 r owner i really want this bike to last. even tough it is made for running high rpms and WOT almost all the time i really would like that it would't break down on me because i am careless of using the engine, clutch and throttle.

And if cops, or any other degenerates want to chase me, it is so easy to lose them, because my bike isn't ANNOUNCING where we are.
A Kawasaki "Ninja" cannot do these things.

Then the real game begins, delivering around a city, saving to buy or build an even stronger electric motorcycle, with the added element of police, and not going too fast during a delivery, because my coward & incompetent employer, wants everyone faster than a bicycle to register their vehicle, when that may not even be possible for me, and as an Anarchist, I will never do.
I want them all to go die in a landfill.
The government & their thugs are nothing but a mafia of narcissists, control-freaks & parasites, and I'm sick of their s---.
I want full ownership, responsibility, and control of my own life. I'm sick of being treated like property.
I'm sick of money being stolen from me, through taxes, to pay for whatever they want, instead of me directly paying for what I actually use & support.
I want nothing to do with the government, but their demise.
Cool, learnt a lot. You earned a sub sir.
This is almost exactly how I launch my bike and was beating most people off the line last year. The only difference is when I Rev the bike up, I don't just hold the throttle in one spot. I found constantly giving short burst of throttle to keep the rpms up at a certain spot works for me. Otherwise my throttle is either not enough or the RPM are way too high (redline comes at < 1/4 @ neutal)
My local track does test n tune drag nights often so I have alot of experience with my bike on the drag strip lol. It carried over to racing as I beat most people off the line
Great vid, good info. Thanks, man. Gonna practice this one.
I can proudly say I learned this myself 😫
Yanking the throttle . But janking I suppose can also work as long as you moving forward. .
i did the lunch control without even realizing it until i watch your video and now i know it a lunch control
But first, the breakfast!
If you need to think about it that much you shouldn't be driving a motorcycle at all. Whatever works works.
For the legion! For the empirical!
Those guys on the line were like "thats gotta be against the law!"
If you own a liter bike and your watching this……take it back lol.
As soon as it stops raining I'm going to spend an hour or so practicing my launches
Careful with engine temp.
Mike baaji! Best guide!
What happens when your 125cc motorcycle barely accelerates because you weigh 230 pounds and are just shy of the 270 pounds carrying capacity? I always tend to over accelerate because once I release the clutch it will tend to choke and turn off
That's a great technique! Dead simple too!
Really cool video! Great explanation! Gotta go on and practice this now 😂 also I feel incredibly cool seeing you wear the same gloves as I do 😏😏 😂😂😂
Learned something again! Thanks
try your method with a peaky twostrokea and you will just stall it. full throttle and control the wheelie with clutch
I suck at launches...I'll give your technique a try...
Great vid! thanks for the knowledge, looking forward to putting it into practise 💙
i tried to do launch control at like 4-5k rpm but did a high power wheelie instead, i dropped it with the footbreak but i wasn't aiming for a wheelie🤣🤣 i want a quick launch.
Thanks for the video bruh I'm a beginner and these help me a lot
Absolutely love your content, I'll watch whatever you make lol
Should I get my bike to the start of the powerband to launch effectively?
You sure you are not cheating. 😂
BTW, I hope I had found your channel earlier.
I see some low sides.....Great videos.
I knew i was doing it right🤘🤘. Thanks for the info!
Got the same gloves, love them
I dump the clutch from the Rev limiter pinned at full throttle
This is always how I learned, no Idea how anyone else does it different
Are you Joe Satriani doppelganger? 😁
Great video!
Now I always do this on red lights 😁
How do you launch your bike? Glad you asked! Preferably with a rocket 🚀strapped to the back!
I searched for this knowledge for a loong time
I understand why it works, but why don't all the other racers do the same thing? You'd think they'd know that.
Probably because they only practice race starts once or twice before each race. I found after years of taking my street bikes to the drag strip, that racers (regional anyway) don't have the best launches. Last year I was a novice racer and launched past most of the amateur racers and even catching the pros
How about in semi automatic's?
he didnt mention about the which foot on the ground or how the foot positioned on the pegs, does it matter?
just here to ask if launching the bike is gonna do some wear on the engine. as a honda cbr 125 r owner i really want this bike to last. even tough it is made for running high rpms and WOT almost all the time i really would like that it would't break down on me because i am careless of using the engine, clutch and throttle.
Yeah when I used to lunch my grom as I wasn’t racing I’d use the clutch a lot it’s at least 3 seconds slower lol
I'm a newbie, will it damage the engine? Help me out please.
