I've been big on post-rock the last few years. Mogwai is a truly special band. This year I've got into amazing albums from We Lost the Sea (Departure Songs) and God is an Astronaut (The End of the Beginning).
Nice video Andy. You have listed a few albums I don't know at all - so thank you! A lovely way to discover some new music. I'm currently listening to Explosions in the Sky and really enjoying it them. All the best - D
Thanks, David. I'm glad you enjoyed it. If you are enjoying Explosions, check out the video I did on them about a year ago. There is an amazing story about the release of their second album. Thanks for watching. Cheers ruclips.net/video/1ROQOBIwImk/видео.html
Hi Andy. I had never heard the term post rock before watching this. I love talk talk, Slint and tortoise. I will check out the others! Great posting, you are always very knowledgeable.
I'd been into post-rock for a while before I saw Talk Talk mentioned as a post-rock band. It took me a while to get my head around that but as influencers it is clear. Cheers, Dave
Enjoyed the video Andy, big fan of Mogwai, theyre amazing live, also a fan of the sigur ros and tortoise albums - will check out explosions in the sky as never heard them before
Thanks Rich. There's a fascinating story about their second album: Those Who Told the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Told the Trusth Shall Live Forever which I covered in this video on the band... ruclips.net/video/1ROQOBIwImk/видео.html
Interesting video Andy. I've never been quite sure what post rock is but now it's clearer. I have heard / I own several of those, without really knowing it was post rock. Cheers Dale
I know you are into Talk Talk, Dale. I'd been into post-rock for a while before I saw Talk Talk mentioned as a post-rock band. It took me a while to get my head around that but as influencers it is clear. Thanks for watching. Cheers, mate
Great list, I'd not come across Yndi halda, so will check that out. My personal favourite is Godspeed..., I saw them about 10 years ago, a very loud but still gig!
Yndi released a second album, Under Summer, in 2016 which was reissued in 2022. I saw Godspeed in 2022. It was at a venue way too small for them and was uncomfortably rammed. I ended up in spot I could hear but not see. Sounded good though! Thanks for watching, Steven. Cheers
Glad you mentioned Talk Talk. I have their albums on CD and the wife and I got to see them in the 80's at Birmingham Odeon. I have seen many live bands over the years including some big artists such as Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd in the 60's and Bowie in the early 70's etc and I can honestly say the Talk Talk concert was probably the second best sounding concert I have heard. The sound and musicianship was superb. The only other band to probably just beat them for sound quality were Blue Nile.
Wow. I can imagine the sound quality would be spot on. The vinyl reissues of Laughing Stock and Spirit of Eden I bought both came with audio dvds with 24 bit digital files (UHD) of the tracks which really brings the albums to life. Thanks for watching. Cheers mate
Yeah those smaller venues are so f*cking loud...can't really get away from the sound no matter where you stand. Think the loudest shows I've been to have been places that hold like 150 people haha
Really interesting video, Andy. Young Team is a great album… I really like Mogwai’s Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will. I tried to get into Spiderland years ago, but I found it a difficult album… I’ll give it another go. I’m after a copy of Laughing Stock… pricey stuff though! Cheers, Jack
Thanks, Jack. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I got my reissue of Laughing Talk at a reasonable price a few years ago. I hit lucky. Unusually it came with an audio dvd with 24bit digital tracks which really brings it to life. Thanks for watching, Jack. Cheers
Good video Andy, I am probably your audience for this as post rock is something I've only dipped my toe in, mainly thanks to you, I'd never even heard the term "post rock" until you mentioned it, despite having loads of Sigur Ros and a few Mogwai. Something I can't quite work out is that all them seem to have some sort of religious imagery in either their name or the album title, does that go with the territory? Not sure if you are aware as you didn't mention it, but Mogwai is the Chinese word for "devil", which makes the track Mogwai fear Satan rather ironic.
Thanks, Marc. I don't think there is anything in the religious themes other than post-rock generally is pretty weird. Personally, I think it should more accurately be called post-prog! I din't know about Mogwai. I thought it was a sort of gremlin, but I guess the connection is the same. Thanks for watching, mate. 2005 tonight? Cheers
I tried to handle Talk Talk, it just did not work for me, too confusing for my love of rythmn I guess Andy. I do enjoy Sigur Ros. Great look at Post Rock
Thanks Steve. Personally I think post-rock would be more accurately described as post-prog! And Talk Talk is just its own thing. One of those rare bands that is genuinely genre-less. Put it in a box on it's own. And it's what we call here Marmite. You either love it or hate it but never it's just OK! Thanks for watching, mate. I hope the move is going well! Cheers
Hey Andy! Thanks for sharing your list and posting this video. It’s cool to know what people’s favorite post-rock albums are. There is only one band I’ve never heard on this list but rest are fantastic. Checkout my video ‘10 BEST POST-ROCK ALBUMS’ on my channel and you can see my list. Other than that, thank you and cheers!
Hey. I've just had a look at your channel and subscribed. Looks like we have similar tastes. I'll check out some of your videos - post-rock and shoegaze to start! Thanks for watching. Cheers
It's not my term, but I did give an extract of how post-rock was defined when the term was first coined. I also commented on a nicely descriptive article on the genre. So as much as I want to define it is there in the video. Personally, I think Post-Prog would be a better title, but that's just me
I agree, Ian. I've always said that it would be better called Post-Prog than Post-Rock, and I like Prog 2.0. However it is universally known as Post-Rock so that's the term I've used in the video. If you watched the video, thanks for doing that. Cheers

I don't know We Lost the Sea. I'll have to check them out. I do know God is an Astronaut, but not well enough. Good calls. Thanks for watching. Cheers
Thanks Andy. Great selection!
Cheers. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍✌

Sometimes the algorithm just nail. Great list, Andy! Gonna check Yndi and Bark, the two I never heard. Already subscribed. CHEERS FROM BRAZIL!
Thank you, Victor. They both only produced two albums, the second ten years after the first! Thanks for watching, commenting and sunscribing. Cheers
This is an amazing list. I learned so much from this! Thank you.
Thanks, Hudson. I'm glad you got something out of my video. Makes it worth doing. Thanks for watching. Cheers

I saw Mogwai in a 500 person venue and my ears rang for nearly a full week after. I've never not worn earplugs to a live show since....
Yeah those smaller venues are so f*cking loud...can't really get away from the sound no matter where you stand. Think the loudest shows I've been to have been places that hold like 150 people haha
Blimey. I can imagine that was as loud as loud gets! Thanks for watching. Cheers
Yep. Me too! Thanks for watching. Cheers

Define post rock

Hate the term post-rock, I prefer my own Prog 2.0
I agree, Ian. I've always said that it would be better called Post-Prog than Post-Rock, and I like Prog 2.0. However it is universally known as Post-Rock so that's the term I've used in the video. If you watched the video, thanks for doing that. Cheers
not a huge post rock guy but i will be checking these out nonetheless 🫡🫡🫡
Good stuff. Thanks for watching. Cheers
