Colin Cantwell, a concept artist who designed spacecraft for Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, pitched the design to George Lucas for use in the movie (1977). Its original name was “Sith Carrier” and the dishes on its sides were intended to be used to destroy various ships. The idea was later adapted for the superlaser weapon of the Death Star. The ship also appears in the movie Solo: A Star Wars Story, but only in the deleted scenes.
