This thing fascinates me. It's not really a cover, but it uses the chorus but reinterprets the lyrics a bit... but is he using the chorus as a chorus? It's tonally somewhat similar... but rhythmically funked up, with this awesome change in meter! Plus, he adds his own lyrics at the beginning, which aren't an interpolation of anything... they're completely original. But, it is a verse? He repeats it... Is he doing a kind of "I Want You (She's so Heavy)"/"Your Mother Should Know" Beatles type thing? He's just breaking every rule, but it's completely fluid and catchy. Amazing.
You have kicked the dust off of musical nerves that have not been stimulated since you left the scene and set them ablaze. From all my brothers in my set, we thank you Sir Angelo.
LivSimple , I too wished this jawn was on Black Messiah. But You are definitely correct. That album right there, Black Messiah, is a masterpiece. I believe D'Angelo is a genius and it's good to see him back musically.
Does anybody else possibly hear "Really Love" being a derivative of him & The Vanguard jamming with this...or maybe the other way around? They sound eerily similar
Yeah. This was recorded in 2004 though. The vanguard wasn’t put together until 2012, and the only members of it who worked with him during that time were Questlove and Pino
most of my artwork has been painted to this man this man is the most unsung one of the most talented musicians on the face of this Earth. D'Angelo has the ability to connect funk Rock and soul all together he is the connection
I LOVE the original greatly and this interpretation equally.. D'Angelo has comeback with a vengeance... I'm SOOOOO happy that I stumbled across this.... it speaks to me in a way I can't put into words
Hands down one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard. Is that Questlove on drums AND Pino on bass?? The metered transitions are melting my brain in the greatest way possible, cant get enough of this cover
I always liked the original. Always liked D'Angelo. Double win! Anyone know where I can download this. I want to add it as a final track to Black Messiah, which I gladly just purchased....
Whatever it is, it's run through some distortion and chorus effects, maybe a light flanger. Possibly a guitar, reminds me of an 80s glam tone but very dusty and buried. At times, it sounds pre-recorded and played back in reverse.
Will there be at least one song on this albm where the words can be clearly understood? Songs are hot, but seriously, it sounds like he's high on Propofiol.
It may take a few sit downs but all you have to do is listen. Not just hear it and not TRY to hear it. Let it flow through you. And if we're lucky, the album will come with a lyric sheet xD
I agree with you.....cause on any album that is a classic landmark....the vocals are clear.....even brown sugar vocals were clear.....now mumbling is acceptable?
Shango Bongo this is art man. and propofiol is spelled propofol...but i know what you meant, because i'm familiar with meds. Get familiar with his style,,it'll all make sense. Music is art. art is expression. expression is life. Its not always understood on the surface and rightfully so.
Even D'Angelo's incomplete songs are masterpieces.

BrittMichaelGordon no
Micah Grossman lol, I'm sorry?
jk I actually totally agree with u lol
Ah, lol, you were just ragging on how nerdy my comment was! I feel ya. ;) Pretty nerdy.
+BrittMichaelGordon He is the master interpolator. Were I an artist, I would ban him from my songs, he's just too creative.
This is a masterpiece. D'angelo should release this properly.

Sasha Lecorps Also sound like Another Life from that some Album

He made Soundgarden proud. I love both versions.
I am a huge fan of the original by Soundgarden. Chris Cornell's vocals make this song hot. I do appriciate D'Angelo's jazzy artistry tho.
Cornell and D'angelo are two of my favourite singers.
Mitch H 2 brilliant masters man

He comes from a church background, that's where the Soul comes from😇💪🏿🙏🏿🔥
where is your artwork?
You have an insta?
This recorded sound-flanged-filtered quality is HOT!!!! It "makes you listen!!!"
WOW!!!! This is without the pitched vocals! Sounds amazing!!!
I'm impressed. I saw the title of the song and was like he covered this? Did a damn good job too.
I LOVE the original greatly and this interpretation equally.. D'Angelo has comeback with a vengeance... I'm SOOOOO happy that I stumbled across this.... it speaks to me in a way I can't put into words
Love it! Hope he revisits this and releases it. Reminds me of Miles.
This man's music speaks to my vertebrae!
Hands down one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard. Is that Questlove on drums AND Pino on bass?? The metered transitions are melting my brain in the greatest way possible, cant get enough of this cover
You hear Quest playing his timing borrowed from Dilla's beat techniques
could very well be D playing everything here. for a while after voodoo he was tryin to do the 'written, performed, produced' thing like his hero.
haven't heard this version. the one i heard had abnormally high pitched vocals. i love them both
2:33- makes my heart smile... i luv it

Franklyn FM McInnis RUclips to mp3.
So mad this was not on one of the Albums lease the black Messiah album
Oh this feeds my soul
I love this track here, and D did his thing but couldn't put this on his album because it was a cover. Soundgarden created this song in 1996.
JaYsOuL85 d'angelo has a lot of covers on his first two albums
**1994 (Superunknown..... the Voodoo of rock music ;) Mark my words)
Anyone have any idea what that extremely lo-fi synth-like sound is?
I'm absolutely in love with it.
Whatever it is, it's run through some distortion and chorus effects, maybe a light flanger. Possibly a guitar, reminds me of an 80s glam tone but very dusty and buried. At times, it sounds pre-recorded and played back in reverse.
Mellotron maybe
We are so lucky this happened
This is pure🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🇯🇲
Why this wasn't on the messiah album
Wow. This is awesome. Whered this come from?
Fukin genius shit
Listened to this with stereo headphones! PERFECT!
I did too. It's bliss
Exactly! Lol
The irony being that this song is mixed in mono
I like this song but the recording feels unfinished, like something's missing.
LOVE IT!!!!
Genie level!!!
Whooooooooaaaaa ✨
do you think chris cornell heard these?
I hope he did❤️
Still in rotation 🔥
To this day!!🔥
I can't stop listening to this... but.. is it me or does at one point he says "asshole sun"?
I believe that's exactly what he mumbled😂. It's still FIRE!!!!
Ahhhhh *reminisce* 😌
In what universe is this Black Hole Sun?
It changes into 'Black Hole Sun' around the 3:00 mark.
D' is A GOOD HOMBRE
DAMN
this is cool
Who is the mole…
does someone have the lyrics?
w o w
Sick damn
Dope!!
wait what?
Try on Norah Jones's version. I'll bet it fits.
wtf with this recording

+dontkeepthisname I feel you. Thank you very much for your feedback. Blessed love.
Shango Bongo what he said is correct. Dee mumbles purposely.... it's art! :-)
I agree with you.....cause on any album that is a classic landmark....the vocals are clear.....even brown sugar vocals were clear.....now mumbling is acceptable?

Maybe I need to listen to it again, because I really don't like this. ....and I really love D'Angelo. Perhaps I'm not hearing it right.
