It would be amazing to be able to see every musical performance from Late Night. I certainly missed more episodes than I saw and of course we never heard the band during commercials.
Thank you, Paul, for remembering Warren Zevon. Thank you and Dave both, for being the best friends WZ's music ever had. How many people would never have experienced his magic, if it hadn't been for you guys? Can't thank you two enough!
+WiL Clark Yes. As a devoted Zevonite, for me, Warren was THE best....period. And now, with my own diagnosis entering it's 3rd month past their prediction, I look more and more to WZ and his amazing example for inspiration and courage. I couldn't have made it this far without his music for sure. And I'm still enjoying every sandwich .....
I'm going to miss the Late Show with David Letterman, Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra. Best late night band ever. And I loved Doc and the Tonight Show NBC Orchestra.
So sad it is the end of the era of T,he Late Show with David Letterman and the CBS Orchestra. I would have it on at night and enjoy all the interviews and great musical and comedy acts. Happy Retirement!
That's funny, I've always thought the same thing. Never once did I ever think Paul hated going to work, instead, you know he F'n loved it. What a great job to have, I still miss Dave, we all do. But I miss Paul as well, love ya Buddy.
Missing the show! Missing Dave and Paul. They had a great chemistry and some very fun exchanges over time. Paul is a really talented musician/director! He will never be shy on employment!
Remember the "Blues brothers", with John Belushi & Dan Akroyd starring as Jake & Elwood Blues? Paul Shaffer was the man responsible for putting together the band with some of the most talented musicians around. Paul was perhaps a bit quirky at times, but never-the-less he is a musical genius. I wish him the best.
Yep. Paul Shaffer is cool. Wonderful at everything he's done- except those embarrassing solo albums! Still today is a great guest musician for any concert!
I liked the stripped down band they had the best. The one from the early years. They had the core 3 guys. The guitar guy, Wil Lee and Paul and Jordan on drums. But then they got Anton Fig and it was even better. The Worlds Most Dangerous Band is what they called it back then, I think.
+Hugh Jass The lighting inside a television studio is very bright. Considering Paul is 65 years old and has spent the last 43 years in the entertainment business, I wouldn't be surprised if he's photophobic. Or, like you noted, it could just be his shtick.
He told Paul because he only made the decision that day and told Les Moonves. Remember he made the decision in Spring 2014, so Paul had a years notice.
He never gets enough credit on his career. The interviews are always short. I feel this guy, just as Dave deserves props on his career. A couple minutes is not enough. I'll leave it at that.
Paul Shaffer and CBS Orchestra improvised musical orchestration to every little thing happening on Dave's Late Night/Late Show for decades. Night time talk show bands today does not have the skills and talents to do what Paul did. They don't make bands like they use to anymore
PAUL SHAFFER is the man.I remember watching Entertainment Tonight back in the day when a guy named DAVID LETTERMAN was going to be a host of LATE NIGHT,he said that was gonna be the Ed MacMann of the eighties in other words,Letterman's sidekick. He was Ed and Doc Severenson rolled into one only much hipper.
Out of all late night network shows, when it comes to either sidekicks to the host or a band leader of a late night show. This dude has got to be at the top of the list of people that obviously have no personal opinions or is scared to simply voice his OWN OPINION. As many people have noticed in his tenure on the Letterman show how he mainly just repeated what Dave said. It was just annoying
chilyn81 Or he stayed upbeat and lighthearted since Late Night and Late Show with improvisational comedian/prankster/host David Letterman are comedy shows and he did his job as humorous band leader. Dramatic opinionated debates like a jackass would have been just annoying, and unfunny, unlikeable, and Dave would have had him replaced in 1982.
I went to the same high school (a year or two behind) as Dave, and I can tell you that everyone was a quick witted "wise guy" just like "The Bearded One". Naturally, that high school is now closed. It's my understanding that Trump is going to change that, as soon as the wall goes up.
Hey Paul, someday will you please take the shades off and let us see your eyes. It's really hard for me to take anyone seriously when they act pretentiously wearing shades in a TV studio.
Paul Shafer is a class act, I really like the respect & gratitude he has - that is the mark of a true gentleman!
It would be amazing to be able to see every musical performance from Late Night. I certainly missed more episodes than I saw and of course we never heard the band during commercials.
"33 years with the smartest, hippest, quickest man in show business." - a very strong and fitting tribute.
Thank you, Paul, for remembering Warren Zevon. Thank you and Dave both, for being the best friends WZ's music ever had. How many people would never have experienced his magic, if it hadn't been for you guys? Can't thank you two enough!
Well said, my friend. Warren was one of the best.
+WiL Clark Yes. As a devoted Zevonite, for me, Warren was THE best....period. Hi, Brenda, I hope you're still kicking.
You cannot call yourself a Shaffer fan and not yet seen his book.
It is legendary, breezily written, just a beautiful read.

Paul is tha MAN!! Glad they given him recognition!
Didnt know shaffer was this cool and smart, he definitely got it to be a great host
Now that's a cool dude.
Amen to that Bro..
***** cool, talented and down-to-earth. Seems like he never let fame & $$ go to his head. I bet he loved going to work every day.
That's funny, I've always thought the same thing. Never once did I ever think Paul hated going to work, instead, you know he F'n loved it. What a great job to have, I still miss Dave, we all do. But I miss Paul as well, love ya Buddy.
Well he is Canadian...
WiL Clark Loving work must be great. The lucky few, like Limbaugh & Letterman, have that!
Missing the show! Missing Dave and Paul. They had a great chemistry and some very fun exchanges over time. Paul is a really talented musician/director! He will never be shy on employment!
Humble and stop super talented. The perfect combo, and rare to find.

trombone guy tom malone also was involved
Urbicide -- it’s raining men
One of the greatest comedies of the late 20th century.
My mom had the Blues Brothers' album Made in America. Shaffer was on the back cover. I have wondered why he was not in the movie.
Love you Paul!!!
WOW! What a sharp and classy kat!
RESPECT PS!!!
I like Paul, down to earth. He was always in Dave's shadow. But so likeable and cool.
love them two

those guys especially hiram were ....... well you know.
Paul and the bad were the best ..I watched them day one ...Great days indeed .

Isn't it strange that Letterman only told him the last second? I find that quite odd- unless I'm missing something. In any case, Shaffer is a legend.
He told Paul because he only made the decision that day and told Les Moonves. Remember he made the decision in Spring 2014, so Paul had a years notice.
03:16 Charlie Rose: "Do you think, he has any regrets?"
Well, Charlie... *what about you? Do you have any regrets?"*
Shaffer 🎹🎸 made that show!
He never gets enough credit on his career. The interviews are always short. I feel this guy, just as Dave deserves props on his career. A couple minutes is not enough. I'll leave it at that.

"Artie Fufkin, Polymer Records..."
Great reminder...had forgotten!!!
If not for Paul, I wouldn't have discovered Belushi
there....is...noone....funnier...and human that david!!!!!!!!
summerholliday44 as far as the late night hosts anyways. I would agree.
Lettermen never did anything for me like perhaps millions of Americans.
However on the other end Millions of Americans loved him.
Great, great guy!
Respect..👍
they ask him more questions about david letterman than paul shaffer! journalism and interviewing, they need to learn some things still.
What did he say to Madonna that he regretted?
CBS has "Paul" and Rede Globo has "Bira"!! haha
In 33 years Paul never wore the same glasses or clothing on the show twice.
#ExterminateISIS
***** closet gay fashion police? Not that there is anything wrong with that. Just sayin'.
69zenos1 Paul Shaffer has a wife and two kids so if he's gay he hides it well. Just sayin'...
#ExterminateISIS
***** wasn't tawkn bout Paul, dude. tawkn bout YOU fer noticing. jus sayn' lol
69zenos1 No I'm not gay, just a fan of Paul Shaffer pointing out something he did I found interesting. It's all cool. :)
Two of the greatest weeks of his life.
I really miss all these people that we used to have now all we have is junk
You didn’t, “miss out on (interviewing) Elvis”, Paul… Elvis was long dead before the show ever started. Don’t know why you said that.
Man, it is HOT outside! It is so hot, that Bill jumped into bed with Hillary just for the chill. Hit it, Paul!
What's up with indoor shades on Paul?
He can't stand looking at Gayle King and her orange hair.
not a lot of ppl know that this man used to race monstertrucks.
Pitbull, doing his best Paul Shaffer impersonation. Spot on job Mr Worldwide.

chilyn81 You didn't really watch the show if that's what you think.
chilyn81 Or he stayed upbeat and lighthearted since Late Night and Late Show with improvisational comedian/prankster/host David Letterman are comedy shows and he did his job as humorous band leader. Dramatic opinionated debates like a jackass would have been just annoying, and unfunny, unlikeable, and Dave would have had him replaced in 1982.
Paul was never annoying.
IS that Pittbull ?
I went to the same high school (a year or two behind) as Dave, and I can tell you that everyone was a quick witted "wise guy" just like "The Bearded One". Naturally, that high school is now closed. It's my understanding that Trump is going to change that, as soon as the wall goes up.
How many insults did you get?
Hey Paul, someday will you please take the shades off and let us see your eyes. It's really hard for me to take anyone seriously when they act pretentiously wearing shades in a TV studio.
Why sunglasses?
I wonder if he can see through those glasses..
Charlie Rose looks so utterly unenthused. He needs a nap. Or a massive vacation. Homie...don't work so much:)
He hadn't been to bed for three days.
Where can I order his voice as a fire alarm?
I thought he was blind .
Why did he say whatever to Madonna? Cuz she deserved it!
Some people wear sunglasses all the time for medical reasons. Bono, for instance, has glaucoma, which makes his eyes sensitive to light.
Sad but 😎
REBUILD HISTORIC "LESTUDIO" CANADA YEH!!!!!!!!!!EH!
Did he turn blind?
his eyes must be a wreck.... or he's blind
it must be tough to be a multi millionaire
Bob Johnson salty, much?
Norah looks so delicious here
I think he was high
stevepoint64 yes that was i thinking
When is this guy gonna come out of the closet?
d
does this goof have something wrong with his eyes?
even i know that you don't wear sunglasses indoors.
Mark's REmarks FU, don’t refer to this legend as a goof, ya goof
Take off those damn glasses!
