What is a subdivision?

Throughout history, the act of dividing land has always been present. How we define subdivision is the following: Subdivision means the division of a lot, tract, or parcel of land into two or more lots, plats, sites, or other divisions of land for the purpose, whether immediate or future, of sale or of building development.
While subdividing land varies by jurisdiction and zoning ordinances, this is one of many basic practices in planning that occurs frequently. The following video explains briefly what a subdivision is.
