  • High View CoE Park Ennis, Texas
Over Easter weekend, 2018, the Two Tired Teachers visited High View Park, an army corps of engineers park on Bardwell Lake near Ennis, TX.
The campground has a 30 amp loop, and a 50 amp loop. We didn't need the power, but we stayed in the 50 amp because we liked the site we had.
Near Ennis, 21 minutes away is Rice, TX home of Casita. Also around 30 minutes away is Collin Street Bakery. If you visit Collin Street, you will probably want to go to the 7th Street bakery. Another thing in Corsicana is a Russell Stover store. It does have a room of seconds.
The trip was perfect for our weekend. We got to see a new to us campground. It was too windy for a campfire, but we found other things to do

Hi Teachers! My husband and I are new subscribers and love your channel! We're both retired teachers and retirement is wonderful! We'd like to buy a small travel trailer to pull behind our Toyota Sienna Van. There is a weight restriction, so we have to stay under a 3,000 lb. trailer. Right now, we're thoroughly confused about trailers! Any suggestions about a good 3,000 or under trailer? Take care and safe travels!

Sorry for the really late response; we've been camping and have only had spotty service.
We're seriously thinking about a Livin'Lite Camplight 16TBS. It weighs 3010 pounds. The 16DBS with a queen bed weighs 3160. We heard on this last trip that the 2018s aren't all aluminum, so we may have to look at 2017s.

I doubt anything is wrong with it, but it isn't park of the Corps of Engineers Park.

I noticed Rice when you initially showed the map of where the park was and thought.....it's the home of my baby! You must have COA parks everywhere around you. I really want to try some of them. There aren't many if any in east Tennessee. However, there are some in middle Tennessee and north Georgia. Happy and Safe Travels!

Sorry for the really late response. We took a ten day trip to New Mexico and Caprock Canyon State Park here in TX, and we just got home. We do have quite a few COE parks.

As someone told me, don't apologize for being late because you are out enjoying life. That is much more important. I hope you did get some video. It sounds like a wonderful trip.

Hi Ladies! We are new subscribers YAY. We just finished watching your vid about High View Campground. Wondered which site you were in. Next month Ron and I are going to be at High View for the 1st time. Also wondered if the drinking water tasted ok. Enjoyed your vid, we will have to go back and look at the rest of them.

The couple COE parks we stayed at in TN were lovely. Were the sites fairly level there? Thanks for sharing.

The one we stayed at near Bransom, Aunt's Creek, was probably our favorite. Thanks for the comment.

I love, love, love fruitcake and you are right - Collin Street Bakery has delicious ones. Have you ever toasted a slice or two? I highly recommend you try it that way - Fabulous! I have been making my own fruitcake for years now and have a growing number of converts waiting for some in their Christmas baskets each year. I never use that fake looking plastic fruit in the stores! Yuck! I use fresh and dehydrated fruits - blueberries, apples, pineapples, raisins, peaches, apricots and, of course, lots of pecans. Oh dear, I think I will have to go make a summer batch! Thanks for the campground review. We have not seen that park so we just might take our Casita out there some weekend when it cools down.

Liz, my sweet grandmother made her own fruitcakes and also candied fresh fruits herself. She used an old Scottish family recipe. It's almost a lost art because so few people make old fashioned fruit cakes these days. My husband and I have looked at Casitas and really like them. We read a review that said tall people have to stoop over inside them, and my husband is 6' 3". Can you tell us something about why you like Casitas? Thanks!!

Elizabeth Morgan, a Casita was my husband’s wish, but they do seem to be well built, leakproof, very easy to tow, easy to park and set up. And, they have good resale value. They look pretty sharp going down the road too. That being said, they are small and outside storage is very limited. We put a back hitch on and got a cargo carrier to carry the outside accessories when we tow with our Ford Edge. Now, we also have a Toyota Tacoma truck and got a very nice bike rack so we can take the bikes with us on certain occasions. All the extras fill up the bed of the Tacoma since we can leave the cargo carrier if hauling the bikes. We got the Casita Independence with the twin bed setup so one of us would not have to crawl over the other during the night. In ours there is 14 inches of foot space all along in between the twin beds where you can put 2 tiny tables up if you wish. That can be pretty crowded. We have no complaints about inside storage after my husband made shelves in the closet and the ID seemed to have more inside storage than the other models. We added 4 scissor jacks outside for better stability. I kind of regret not getting the one with a little table always set up, but we do like the beds in the ID. General everyday sitting is a little awkward as the beds are 30” wide and regular booths are more narrow and therefore more comfortable when sitting and leaning for a backrest. So, we mainly recline rather than sit when inside. Also, those other model Casitas have an extra window that we do not have. I miss that. A 6’3” person might be okay, but I am not certain. We are not that tall and have plenty of headroom. I recommend you go to the factory and try them out. Or if you see one out and about, most people will be glad to let you take a peek inside. We go to Casita rallies and it is fun to see all the modifications people end up doing to their Casitas giving us more ideas to sink more $$$ into it. And, most people love them. Hope this helps.

They seem to retain their value better than a lot of RVs.
