Thank you for your patient tutorial. I appreciate the time you took to dispense you knowledge about South Sea Pearls. They are all beautiful. Black is my favorite color.
If you can afford it, a long strand of large, well matched, white SS pearls is timeless and screams class. Ditto a long strand of Tahitian pearls (actor Pierce Brosnan's wife Keeley has an amazing long Tahitian strand she wears often, and it always looks amazing). If I had her money, I would buy a long white, SS strand of the same quality! For those of us who don't have $100,000 to spare for a necklace, modern freshwater pearls can be a good alternative. Modern freshwater pearl farming has mass produced high quality, large sized pearls, that are a great substitute for South Sea pearls at a fraction of the price. If you're lucky enough to find a great quality, large freshwater pearl necklace, only an expert could tell the difference - you'll achieve an almost identical look to South Sea pearls, without the crazy price tag!
I love southsea pearls. I have black, white and golden southsea pearls with different hues . Some are Long strands and shorter ones. I consider my pearls as lucky charms ❤. Golden southsea pearls famously comes from the Philippines 🇵🇭.
Would you be so kind as to tell me if HGM sells the necklace you are wearing in this video? Is it all gold or are there small stones I'm seeing? Thank you so much.
Hello misses Meyer! I'm looking to buy a pair of pearl earrings and what suits my face best is medium size and not very big. Is there any way I can find smaller South Sea pearls or if someone claims so, they would be fake?
Would you wear a Southsea pearl on a ring? My husband would like to give me 30th anniversary gift and I thought of a beautiful southsea pearl on a ring. Tiffany has one that I absolutely adore (Tiffany, HardWear collection, Southsea golden pearl ring on 18K gold band) but I am afraid of the fragility. If I do get it, would the same care instructions apply? Are there added instructions that you would advise for wearing a pearl on a ring? I don't imagine that I would be wearing this ring on a daily basis. Would love to know what you think. Thank you.
I would wear on a pendant. I have a black South Sea on a ring and it’s a stressful affair. I have to take off the ring every time I wash my hands. A pearl on a ring is harder to clean. With an expensive pearl you want to wipe them after every wear. A 30th anniversary gift is something you want to treasure for years to come and not be stressed about.
@@admenocal I totally agree, pearls are among the softest - if not the softest - of all gems, so a really valuable specimen is best made into a pendant (or if you're lucky enough to have two pearls, earrings), not a ring which inevitably gets so much more wear and tear. I would just add, if you're having a South sea pearl custom made into a pendant, have it done with an opening, 'enhancer' style bale, so that you can wear that special pearl over anything you choose from a chain to a thick omega wire, to a string of pearls. It makes the pendant so much more versatile.
Hey Jim, great question. The best way to know if a strand of South Sea pearls is cultured is by sending them to a lab, like the GIA for certification. They will x-ray the pearls and are able to determine the micron layers of nacre on the implant. An easy way to tell if pearls are real or plastic is by rubbing them on your teeth. If they are real, they will feel gritty against your teeth and if they are plastic or fake, they will feel smooth. I hope that answers your question! Thanks
Great video! I found this video, researching the value of pearls to get knowledge on their authenticity and resale value. My wife's mother passed, a former Jamaican politician who traveled during her years in politics, and often went to countries in the south pacific. She loved to travel to the orient and purchased many items, jewelry in particular while there. She left her my wife, who is "Rastafari" and do not wear such items, an authentic SS, fine pearl necklace & matching bracelet. My wife wants to sell it to someone who appreciates fine jewelry, as all our kids were raised in the Rastafari culture. Any info on resale, and whom can be trusted as a dealer, would be helpful. Will call number in video for more information.
Clearly, she doesn't know what she's talking about. Im from Philippines. I own real pearls from the sea around here. Many of the things she said are not accurate. Too many to enumerate.
Perfect pearl presentation. I love Australian white pearls. The luster is exceptional.

@@admenocal Ooh it sounds gorgeous! Yes, you can get lots of wear from it with an enhancer. Lucky you, enjoy! X

One reason south south sea pearls are so big and beautiful, is because they are grown in warmer waters.
❤
Je préfère ne rien mettre 😊 c'est beau quand même
I love the American pronunciation of 'nacre', as 'nacker'! In the UK that's a rude slang word for testicles!

Don't forget about the Philippines
Indonesia? Golden South sea pearls come from the Philippines. Specifically they came from Palawan Philippines.
