  • Today we have Dr. Marc Hamilton, an international expert in muscle physiology. He has published pioneering work on the soleus push-up, a potent physiological tool with the ability to elevate metabolism for hours, even while sitting. Marc is a professor of Health and Human Performance at the University of Houston who is well known for a string of papers beginning in early 2000’s on the serious health hazards posed by excessive sitting.
In this conversation, Marc talks about his paper in iScience reporting on the soleus push-up’s ability to sustain elevated oxidative metabolism to improve the regulation of blood glucose more effectively than popular methods currently touted as a solution.

Rocking works to soothe babies and is associated for the aged. This movement in a rocking chair, essentially is activating this Soleus muscle. It’s been a classic for the elderly forever. Perhaps this choice of rocking chairs has more benefits than simply being comforting.

Is this experiment based on rats, or actually done with human trials? The iScience article was done on rats, wasn't it? Does it take 4.5 hours to show the difference? I don't get it.
