  • Followed the break-in procedure for the Power Stop Extreme Z36 brake kits and it appears the aggressive breaking scorched the front rotors and pads. I'm now getting a wet brake friction sound when the vehicle comes to a complete stop or when I let off the brake pedal slowly after a complete stop.
Update: I contacted Power Stop and told them my issue and they sent me a new set of both front rotors and pads. They wouldn't answer my question as to why the break-in procedure they have on their box caused this to happen to my rotors so I must assume their recommended procedure is too aggressive for my vehicle. I will use a more moderate brake-in procedure on the new set, forgetting their "5 aggressive decelerations - 5 moderate decelerations & 5 minute cool down" procedure that caused this damage.
Update #2: I put the new brake set on a shelf in the garage, waiting for my schedule to allow enough time to do the job. While I was waiting, the wet brake friction noise has stopped and the brakes are working as they should. It appears the glazing of the pads has worn off and hence the friction noise. The rotors look less scratchy too, however, they do tend to rust after a rain, like the stock rotors did. The back rotors don't rust so it appears the overheating of the front rotors caused damage to the coating that's designed to prevent rust. I think I will leave these pads and rotors on until they need changed then install the new set, breaking them in more moderately.
