I can totally relate to your entire situation. I was laid off in May and haven't been able to find a new job in the corporate world. Seems my skills aren't needed - I feel at 55, they think I am "old" and have no value. I keep trying - applied to about 15 jobs in the past 3 weeks. Hoping things pick up in 2025. I also have elderly parents. They are 88 and my Mom has Parkinson's and is disabled at this point. She is home and my Dad takes care of her with some help from nurses. But it is hard on him and he gets so frustrated. My brother and I help out as much as we can. Only blessing to being unemployed is I can spend more time with them but it never seems enough. It is so hard to see them like this. As you mentioned, I am coming to the realization I will probably need to pivot to other types of jobs, way lower salaries just to get some money coming in and insurance. I had a severance but it just ended. I just hope for all of us, 2025 is a better year! I always felt positive that I would find something better but it definitely tests your faith and patience. Have a Merry Christmas and a nice holiday break. Wishing you all the best in 2025.
I've been out of work since the end of March, and hopefully, we boutg find something soon. Am looking into rail maintenance. Glad youre mums ok. And have a great Christmas and news years!
Thank you for doing the content you do, it's always inspiring. I've been out of work for 14 exhausting months, and each month has been difficult with knock back after knock back (I used to work in marketing but am open to admin and customer service roles). I'm hopeful 2025 will be a brighter year for me, and I think next year I just need to knock unopened doors louder and be open to more opportunities. I wish you a Merry Christmas and happy travels in the New Year!
Sorry to learn about your Mum. My Mother in law is in a very similar situation. The issue with retiring early at 56 is what on earth you do with all the time without a decent income coming in to support hobbies & trips. . Nearly everything costs so much now - even a coffee & sandwich costs nearly a tenner now.. Have a good Christmas & New Year & holiday break.
I'm in Perth Australia and retired a year ago at 60. The beach, sunshine, and parks are free and since retiring have lost 15 kg. A completely unexpected but healthy outcome of retirement.
I know it's not the norm in western culture, but If your financial circumstances allow, consider spending quality time with your aging parents. Not only would your mother benefit from your care, but your father would also appreciate the support in caring for her.
Happy Christmas! Was just thinking of you the other day. I imagined you were too busy to post. Glad things are going OK just now. Best wishes for 2025. 🎄🌈
1967 model here. My friend you have to come to terms with the reality those of our age are simply not wanted in the workforce. Our skills gained over a lifetime is not valued. We as men are invisible in society, everyone wishes we would just all go extinct and do it sooner rather than later. They have benefited from our lifetime of paying the taxes and building the infrastructure they enjoy, they do not comprehend that soon, very soon they will be in the same position we are in today. We are all persons non-grata. Fact. Deal with it and move on.
Agreed. It's unlikely there will be a permanent job at this juncture. Yes, fed up of constantly interviewing and applying for jobs but that's how it will be going forward.
I didn’t work for the whole of 2024, was getting very serious..but thankfully I start a new job in January, it’s a permanent job and does not pay as much as I have previously made as a contractor.. but I’m 52 and it’s not a bad salary. What ex contractors need to understand is that the market has changed and you will not get paid what you once did, but thanks for this channel it has shone a light on the true picture of unemployment especially in the uk for over 50’s.
interesting to follow your journey, totally understand why you'd want a full time job and not the time-limited contracts and the stress they bring. Have a great Christmas!
Don’t come to the States looking for a job, it’s almost as bad here as by you. Job search difficult. But, we will celebrate Christmas ! 🍷 clink to you and your family! ✌️ 🎄

Consider foster caring - demand is high. Different experience
Why not create ur own job, I think u just want to sail in a straight line to the finish ,how long do u need the income for retirement age,?
Using "air Freshners" and scented candles is poisonous for dogs and cats. Then again, anyone who actually CARED for their animals would know that.
