- Galfer Front Wave Rotor Installation on a 15-17 Yamaha YZF-R3

Replacing the front brake rotor with the Galfer Yamaha R3 Front Wave Rotor really added to the look of the STG Project R3. Not only does it look better but it adds some performance benefits as well. When we installed the front rotor we also replaced the front pads with the Galfer HH Sintered Front Pads which were a nice upgrade from the stock brake pads. Bedding in the new rotor and pads was pretty easy, it took about 30 miles in total with the brakes literally improving with each application. Proper break in is critical to overall performance and longevity. End of the day this is a nice little mod for the R3 that looks great and improves the performance a bit.
If you feel uncomfortable with this modification please take your bike to a licensed motorcycle mechanic. Stay tuned for more installation videos!

Again. Very informative. Great video. Thanks!
You are welcome and thank you for watching! - Van
Thanks Van, just picked up an R3 and this takes away all of the guess work!
You are welcome and thanks for watching! - Van
Good videos, always informative, thank you
great vid! thanks so much for making it🍻👍
You are welcome, thank you for watching! - Van
Lovely informative video. Galfer need to do more discs and pads for 125cc bikes
very good video, and very informative, thank you.
Those just look MEAN :)
Very informative, thanks!
Good video bro
After 7000 miles on the stock rotors and pads I'm in need of some serious braking upgrades along with my 3rd rear tire and first front to something stickier.
Fab, thanks.
I was curious, why were you so easy to remove the bolt while I was very difficult to remove the bolt, even some broken bolts on his head. Lol
You have only put 300 miles on that bike in, what, the last 5 months? It very much seems to me like a waste of time and money to change the brake disks on a bike that barely gets ridden. Anyway, well done video, very informative.
Is it possible to add one more disc and caliper on small bike to get more braking?
You can install larger rotors on some models, the R3 is not one of them. IMO you can get all the braking power you need on this bike by upgrading the pads, lines and rotor. In MotoAmerica the JC racers are using stock master cylinders on the R3 and Ninja 400 with excellent results. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear if upgrade bigger rotor do I have to change pad and the one that holding pad size? Or use same pad just bigger pads?
I just wan more stopping power cus in sweden in case of imergency brake i wanna to stop as fast as possible. ( lot of forest and wild animal just runing out) and I like to ride fast so I wanna be able to stop fast. Do i change back rotor to cus both brake better then one brakes
I have the same rotors on my 2008 gixxer, I just want to know does it move up and down or I need to change the bobbins ?? cause I feel clunk sound over bumps when riding slow (10-15 km/hr) ??
It should not be overly loose. I would reach out to Galfer direct with this question. - Van
Hey! What kind of brake lines are those? Could your please upload a video swapping them?
Hello! It was available on our channel and I will link it for you here. Thanks for watching and I hope this helps!

Dude your videos are awesome then now I need radial brake calipers on my Yamaha r3 so which steps I follow that modification please send me video link about that.
Can we get a wheel bearing install video??
Hey,
What hex / torx set would you recommend for bike maintenance?
I checked your tools link but it only has a link to some battery thing.
Thanks
+AcMods.net Thanks for the heads up, the Tools category needed a little love. Still we do not have a good torx set on the site. We will need to get one added. - Van
Okay great looking forward to it!
Hey, thanks for the vid! Is there a specific part number for those break pads. I'm in desperate need to change mine, but I'm note sure which part/model number to get.
How would you bed in discs on a track only bike?
I start in the paddock with slow speed stops and finish on the track with a slow session. Do not put yourself into a situation where you need to break hard. Break smooth and early for every corner. You will feel the brakes improve with each use until they are ready to go. This process will only require part of one session to complete. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Nice one cheers for the reply! Will give it a go. Keep up the good videos, I've learned loads from you 👍
Can you follow up with a quick review of how the rotors and pads met the marks, and would you recommend them for street use? I have two R3's, and was considering the steel braided brake lines to improve stopping feel.
Sure, everything worked very very well. I don't usually ride aggressive on the street but it significantly improved my overall breaking consistency in all weather. Really great setup!
Can u tell me which material is used my Yamaha in their stock r3 brake pads. They are organic or sintered brake pads?
Not 100% sure, I do believe the fronts are sintered. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear thanks😊😊
What tool are you using
Several different tools were used in this install. I would need you to be a little more specific to get this answered. - Van
My galer disc. Its move vertical n horizontal...it seems not recomended
Whats your reason not to use a torque wrench?
Before starting STG I was an auto technician at a Cadillac dealer for many years. Over those years I developed really good feel for torque and would only use a torque wrench for a few select jobs. If you are not comfortable working without using a torque wrench I would encourage you to get one for sure. - Van
I still don't think my rear brakes are safe yet never use them but I get what you mean as they will not work as well for a bit
is this the same for my model which has ABS or will a need some kind of ABS disc not sure how that works
+Rookie Rider J also should get a Sena headset + Prism when you test all this stuff out you can record and talk about it
+Rookie Rider J That will depend on if there is a sensor ring attached to the rear rotor or if the Galfer rear rotor will accept the stock sensor ring if it is removable. For now the application chart only says this will fit the US version. - Van
Is it 320mm?
Can i install on r15?plez anyone can tell me?
Man watching that caliper hang from the brake line made me cringe coming from the car world thats a big no no, but im guessing the calipers on a bike are much lighter idk. Great video tho
That line can support the weight of a full size motorcycle with no problem. There is no reason in the world not to let the tiny little caliper hang. - Van
why that benefit the bike? what that do exactly
Great question. They look better (never a bad thing) and the overall performance of the brakes will improve a bit as compared to stock. Not a massive jump in braking power as you would see with installing a brake line kit. - Brian Van
Excuse me sir. I planing on buying R3 but I wonder what is the maximum size of wheel on tired that I can put on R3 ? front and rear wheel. Do I need to adjust the swing arm ? What if I would like to put the wheel and tired around Front 160 and Rear 180 do you think is possible and safe to ride. Thx a lot sir.
Don't that shirt cut off your circulation?
Shirt fits perfect.
They use retaining pins for safety. Do you know what else is for safety? A torque spec. That's just plain sense and cheap insurance. I like the product but you are actively telling people the wrong way to do this. "At the end of the day" torque matters.
If you do not have a good feel for even and appropriate torque then you should use a torque wrench as stated. I have installed brake rotors on bikes 100 times over the years with zero issues. Everything I share is based on personal experience backed by actual results. As I said if you are not comfortable then go buy a torque wrench and use it. - Brian Van
I've never met Van, but based on the videos I've watched, he likely has more mechanical experience than all of the viewers of this video combined. He even suggests using a torque wrench in the video. I have a decent bit of mechanical know-how, sometimes I use a torque wrench, sometimes I don't.
If you're concerned about safety, I'd reevaluate the video on your channel that shows you explaining how to remove the orange tip from a CO2 gun- that orange tip seems like it's there for safety, after all. :)
I am certainly no expert when it comes to firearms so this may be incorrect. Don't they put the orange tip on toy guys to clearly identify it as such to prevent unnecessary or accidental shootings? I don't use a torque wrench or wear safety glasses but I wouldn't do that. The internet is an amazing machine. - Brian Van
