Note about Sleep - direct damage wakes enemies, but periodic damage does not. This is of more use to healers, but even as a questing Black Mage, I'll often Thunder and Sleep a few enemies, then burn them down one-at-a-time while Thunder eats away at the sleepers and feeds me those sweet, sweet, Thundercloud procs.
Your guides are great, very well done, informative, while also being entertaining. I just wanted to leave a comment letting you know that because idk if you realize how good these are. Thanks again!!
i got so excited about the recent addle change. it went from me wondering what the value was, and being so uncertain that i didn't use it, to basically using it almost on cool-down when i didn't need to be doing damage. would be nice if i knew the moves i should be saving it for, but at least It's getting used now.
Note about Lucid Dreaming - if you're unfamiliar a fight, there's a lot of value to holding onto Lucid Dreaming to recover after dying. That's what I do most of the time, and I have yet to regret it. Of course, if you're playing Rez Mage and the rest of the party seems to be playing blindfolded, you might need to use Lucid Dreaming a bit more often. :P
I'm with you Chris - I feel like I have a better than 50% success rate with saving wipes. Sure, my first Sleep might not last, but my second very often does, and even if I cast it three times and it's broken immediately each time, that's enough time for the situation to stabilize. Usually, by then the melee DPS has panicked and run off with an add or two nipping at their heals, but the main group stays put and lets the healer (or me) Raise the tank in peace. Of course, some players would rather wipe and use that as an excuse to be a bully than actually use their non-DPS tools, but we gotta keep hope alive :P Anyway, I find it to be far more useful than the "worthless" that I often hear or the "all but worthless" Wesk gave it, but maybe it's worth it to give it short shrift if that means fewer instances of new players casting it needlessly. Goodness knows I see a ton of Archers (and even Bards!) using Leg Graze because they assume the Heavy status has an interaction with Heavy Shot.
@@WeskAlber i think a major use is on redmage who can dual cast it. on low level roulettes i used it to stop enemies casting, like a budget holy. and even if enemies wake immediately, they still canceled at least one auto on the tank that has no clue what mitigation buttons are...
Now that people can tell what is magical and physical, I hope players start actually using Addle and Feint, there is no reason not to throw them out for things like raidwide damage. So many players just never bother to weave them in though. Also it's worth noting that DoT's don't wake up Sleeping enemies. Some free damage on enemies in single player content.
With the current state of smner I would honestly just hold onto swift for raise unless you need it for movement or are going for logs. It's only a small gain if you wanna snapshot buffs on a slow cast, typically slipstream.
@@WeskAlber btw, your videos are super helpful. You're my favorite ff14 content creator and I really love what you do. Thank you so much and have a nice day mate
Addle does not stack. As a rule, effects that mitigate damage with the same name don't. Putting Reprisal on a target twice doesn't stack, for instance.
That moment when you've been leveling black mage for weeks and thought Addle was a debuff were YOU do 10% more magic damage. Man I am really fucking stupid.
Bruh Summoners cast spells? Exclusively? I mean if you were lumping together all classes that deal damage at a distance, sure, but summoner is unequivocally a mage.

Did he pull the entire dungeon of Stone Vigil just for a sleep example!? Amazing

The number of times I've stopped a random pug wipe with Sleep can't be understated. More useful than people give it credit for.
That's why I do say if the tank just outright died.

I love how Sleep/Repose now has a nice usage for a certain tanky mob in the level 99 dungeons now 😂

Does addle stack or override? So you have to red mages and they both cast addle

Sure cast is A MUST for BLM.
i only addle on extreme fights to reduce the damage when tank also reprisals
Played since ARR came out and I've never heard summoner called a mage... ranged dps yes... mage nope.... do people say summoner is a mage?
Magical and physical ranged are two entirely separate categories of DPS in terms of gear, LB, Party stat boost, and more.

mage just means magic user
