Wow. Hasn't driven the car in years, hasn't been in that particular one until then and he gives it some wellie! He wasn't hanging about on that run and the fantastic judgment where he nearly but not quite shaves that wall on the left - classic driving from a great driver who I had the privilege of watching in 1968 at a very soggy Tasman Cup race at Longford where he was #2 to Pedro Rodriguez in a BRM.

Various V12 F1 Ferraris have sounded wonderful, as did the straight 5 Audi Quatros of Group B rally days, but no car has ever sounded better than the flat 12 Porsche 917. That is always and forever, exactly what a fast car SHOULD sound like.

The 917 & I were born on precisely the same day, March 13, 1969, when Porsche unleashed it upon the world at the Geneva Motor Show
Its no wonder that its the greatest racing car in all of motorsport history

Great to see Richard give the beast a proper run up the hill rather than just showing it off, nothing better :)

@Nemo13535 It is number 23 but it's not the original car but a factory replica. Hans Herrmann won the Le Mans race driving with Richard Attwood in 1970, who is shown here driving at Goodwood.

@AnAngryPossom Also the 917 K Twin turbo of the Can Am series also, if I'm not mistaken bro. Although its been so long...lol showing my age I suppose. Either way good lord what a sweet sound!

I really like how the drivers dress as the would to match the car of that period.

@12valvepower1 It doesn't actually. It has a 180 degree V-12 i.e. 2 con rods per crank pin. In a true boxer engine each rod has its own crank pin.

@AnAngryPossom Had I not known, I would of thought all Porsches were flat sixers. I guess I'm a lazy Porsche fan because I've never cared to research what their racing division uses but I would imagine a flat 12 would produce a gob smack of power given how much of a monster their flat sixers are. That cockpit is a man's domain. Tight, everything is where you want it and no 2nd seat for some whiny passenger to complain about your excessive speeds.
