The work is way over priced at 2k, engine mounts and gearbox mounts can be got for €45 and water pump for €15 anyone with basic knowledge of car repair could fit them.
great video! I still kind of miss my 05. they're great cars! Never had big problems with it. Only the waterpump like this one, cracked charge pipe and a small transmission leak. Btw the brake simulation is hydraulic, feels just like a normal brake. Greetings from a dutch guy in Germany!
This turned me down from buying an E55. But now since this has changed I’m stacking my Pennies, and gonna sell my R129 in the upcoming summer to attempt buying my first E55 this upcoming fall or winter.
Michelin makes a fabulous tire, great combination of longevity, comfort, and capability in both summer and all season configurations. I had a Mercedes of that era, a CL, and had the connector on the transmission leak, but it didn't show around the plug at all, it instead wicked up the wires and showed up at the transmission computer. Fluid in the plug and about a tablespoon of fluid in the computer itself. Fortunately, it was caught before it damaged the computer and was perfectly fine after cleaning everything up and replacing the pilot bushing.
I owned Mercedes E320d SE I loved it when it ran, it had one issue an electric fault stop it form starting in the morning thro lot faults up on the dash then it would start after many attempts then run all day. The dealership in Northern Ireland could not find the problem after many attempts they just kept resetting give it back no fault found. this video brought back memory's of that car love hate relationship. 👍
My grandfather had a 2004 E320 sedan and he drove it for 300k. Great car overall and yes they do have their flaws but they are overall pretty good! I assume for the pcv valve cover that you can reseal that with victor reinz sealing compound as you would with the intake manifold gasket’s
I had an E270 Station Wagon in Blue metallic with blue Leather interior and wood trim - gorgeous! Terrific car. I found a German company that supped Superior rear suspension air bags which sorted that problem. I had the Brake error which I was told was because the brake had been pressed more than something like 250,000 times and required a very expensive replacement to clear the error. I found a Polish specialist who sorted it out without the great expense 😀

Thank goodness I work on my own C 320 Mercedes. Changed the water pump , gearbox service , power steering service, tensioner pulley and poly v belt and all 12 spark plugs plus service (oil and all filters) for a quarter of the cheapest workshop quote! Car has 200 000 miles on it and still drives like a dream!
Great channel, and I have been a fan for a long time. The only thing I never understand is the remarks on the tires. The front right tire seems to be worn out on the inside, and the same on the back tires. In Europe I doubt these tires would ever pass inspection. Furthermore in winter I would definitely recommend changing them.
Common on all W211s, or other Mercedes from those years, valve covers, rear main seal, water pump and pulleys, wheel bearing. Easy to to work on. Great car. Thanks for the video wizard.
Had an '89 230E that I had to let go. Too much rust, shot motor mounts and a heap of other problems was just too much for my skint wallet. Got a _very_ cheap Vectra that lasted me a few years until I got out of my financial rut and bought myself a much newer Toyota Aygo. I still miss my W124.
I over maintain my E320. 280K miles, never any problems never "failed to proceed". I am lucky, I have an excellent, honest mechanic, just like you. This will last me forever
I had an 05' e320 CDI a few years back. Pulled like a freight train and got better mpg at 80 then it did at 60! Unfortunately I needed awd and sold it to our helicopter mechanic locally. I think the front ends on these W211 chassis are timeless!
I had a 06 E320CDI. Absolutely loved that car. It rode and drove so nice. I could go nearly 700 miles on a tank of gas. It was totaled by a deer and I had to fight with the insurance company who wanted to short change us and give us a gas engine price.
I have an E500, 2005 MY. I do all my own work, save for periodic safety checks. The balljoints on the 4Matic and AIRMatic cars are tough. I also did the valve covers, breather cover, all 16 plugs, upper control arm and lower ball joint, sway bar link and AC rebuild (2nd Mercedes this year..) and your water pump finding stunned me. I inspected mine and zero shaft play, I have no idea how that M112 was even running like that and no coolant leakage out of the weep hole! Unheard of here. I usually do the idler pullies when aux components fail.. in the case of this 0HP non-runner when I bought it, the old compressor was such a mess, both pulley bearing AND compressor failure occurred... belt chewed up. The previous mechanic misdiagnosed a midrange error to a failed air mass meter... and condemned that and also the intake manifold since the customer complained about a rough driveability issue. MAF was dirty, front o2 sensors were bad. Now it's a 302 HP well running machine. Much cheaper fix than the quoted 1500 so please be careful if you don't do your own work! Nice work Car Wizard and Magic Mike, you guys always nail it! Oh.. the SBC topic: Warranty extended 25 years. Have the form signed and save all that coin if the pump is expired.
Absolutely gorgeous W211. Every single M112/113 car I’ve had needs these items addressed. Just replaced an original water pump on a 2001 C320 with 278k miles. Glad to see someone is keeping this one up.
Yeah car wizard, you are the man I love watching your/Hoovies content.. if I ever have real issues with a vehicle I will be calling you.. thank you fir being an honest mechanic and a stand up guy!! It is appreciated even by “just viewers”
i just bought one of these and it’s in slightly worse cosmetic shape, and it’s got a few very minor issues (slightly inaccurate fuel gauge, bad alarm causing fuse to short, suspension rides a little high i think) but in general the powertrain is in wonderful shape (bone dry in the engine bay, good coolant, stays quiet, starts well) and it had pretty nice michelins on it with plenty of tread left. My independent mechanic said it was in overall pretty good shape, so once the minor issues are addressed, it’ll be a super solid car!
I had a W211 for a few years and around 200 000 km. The SBC brakes are somehting to get used to. You won't feel ABS in the pedal, you can do a full emergency stop with the force of your big toe if you want to (it judges the speed of how fast you take your foot off the throttle and put it on the brakes to know if it yould be an emergency situation, and in my case it always judged correct.), it has electronically distributed brake force which makes braking safer in cornering -> You can hit the brakes as hard as you can in a corner, and the line will stay the same. And in the rain, it brakes immediately when you hit the brakes. Bakc then this wasn't the case in almost any car, as the brake discs have water on them in rain, and when yo apply the brakes the water needs to be wiped off by the brake pad. SBC did that by itself. This was the reason why all W211 even those with the smallest 4cyl engines and the lowest trim had a rain sensor as standard. So the car would know when to "dry the brakes". And suprisingly that did not result in more wear. While i had the car, only the read brake pads needed to be replaced once. (As it had rwd and we have winter in the alps, the traction control added a little wear on snow sometimes) In those years i never had any problem with the SBC brake, and it took me to get an AMG to have similar feeling brake performance. And basically they stopped using it in the e-class in 2006 i think mainly for costs. The SL had the same system and they didn't remove it from there until the end of the model.
I always like the M112 engine. Its in my SLK320, my wifes Crossfire STR6 and my Crossfire Limited. And yes I've had to do the valve cover gaskets on all 3 of them. You probably already know but FCP Euro has a kit that includes the gaskets, new bolts and new PCV lines.
I would love to find a CDI but they are pretty rare in the US, personally I like the facelifted W211 front much more, still looks sharp to these days. I currently have an '08 E350, runs strong at 125k miles.
Wow! Super nice Mercedes! It’s good to see someone who keeps their car in nice shape! This car will last a long time with continued servicing. We had ours for 24 years before my mom got rid of it. Old Mercedes cost as much to repair as new ones! I wish I could have taken the car and fixed it up. Engine ran fine but it needed a new suspension. Only $3k would have fixed that problem. The interior was in pretty good condition but it needed a new paint job and some rust repair. Can you tell, I loved that car! 😂
Wizard, back in 2016 I was looking for a car found one of these for $2,500 bucks but I like the idea of a 7-speed, and the lighter aluminum engine that the newer model had. But I like the straight six for ease of repairs that the older model had. I didn't buy either. Now I hear that the older one was the best one to get and I wish I had.
Careful application of hot air from a Heat Gun or Hairdryer and some gentle rubbing with a cloth will help re-attach the loose Leather on the Centre Console.
Great video! Now I want to send my ‘91 560SEL to your shop to have it gone over and a great video to come out of it!! I know it will come home PERFECT!!
Nice work on the new intro Mrs Wizard also a good eye for the interior reviews. Car Wizard I had the same thoughts as soon as the noise appeared it is so distinctive. What is with wheel bearings and engine mounts on all these cars don't people check them? I remember when my Sister in law was first driving I had to take her car for our MOT Test and I turned it on and selected 1st gear and i got a loud thud as the engine tilted and hit the fire wall and the gear stick dropped about 2 inches, Later that day I asked her about the banging and I said do you just turn the music up to hide any bangs her answer was yes, then I looked at the brakes metal on metal on the 2 front outer pads and about 1mm on the inner pads we had to have a big talk with her and she developed a few brain cells.

Weird coincidence I just finished doing work on my 05 e320 did water pump radiator thermostat temp sensor and more, did valve covers and mounts a few months ago , love Benz
I have a CLK320 with the same engine, I haven’t seen the full video, but by the symptoms, engine bushings, valve cover gaskets and maybe timing guides or one of the accessory pulleys is what the weird noise from the front is. These are the most common issues of that engine
I know these vehicles n side and out. Sbc can get down right dangerous when failing. And those valve covers r two piece. Most people just replace the whole covers w new. If you snag em for cheap they make a good family car. Replace belt , idlers and tensioner every 40-60k or you'll be on borrowed time
Those 320 deeezels r the bees knees. I've seen em well over 250k and clean. One smooth torqeee operator. I used to service onenowmed by a oil tycoon. The guy would drive it back and forth from centex all the way to brazil.

Imo the only flaw in the SBC system is a brushed motor instead of brushless! I guess Bosch engineers "forgot" that detail...or maybe not
Man I miss having that car. My mom used to have a 2005 e320 exactly like that one. We bought it back in 2014 and only recently sold it a few months back. It was Such a well built, and solid feeling car!
How many miles out of curiosty?
@@lokilowkey3049 we bought it when it broke just over 100k miles in 2014 and when we sold it last April it had 160k miles
@@bigboyisaac255 Interesting, i've personally had 3 AMG's C55,S55, and now CL55. all M113k engines and...goddamn., always an issue with electronics It's a hit or miss i guess.
I know one thing,, i'd never buy a German car out of warranty...
@@lokilowkey3049 damn that’s tuff man I feel for ya 😂😂
Nice to feature Magic Mike in the video. You can just tell he knows his stuff.
It’s great to see Magic Mikes talents being recognized and his involvement in the videos! He’s a true asset!
The knowledge on magic Mike is astonishing
not when it comes to pricing...
That car is a perfect example of a 'well cared for vehicle'.16,well 17 years old now,and it could be just what a 1 year old car would look like underneath, and they keep it All clean.Kudos to them. You 3 did a pretty good video about it too.Edit=I had guessed the mileage at Maybe 60K,not double that.If I could,I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
I was going to say.. I did an SBC replacement for the first time at the dealer under warranty and man it takes forever with the das/xentry unit.. Used like 6Ltrs of brake fluid and had many restarts when doing the whole bleeding process because of how precise you need to hold the brake... Literally had to hold the brake pedal at 50 bar for 2 minutes straight. Mentor thought I was nuts..
Magic Mike is becoming a RUclips star! Always glad to see him.
This is one of the best looking sedans Mercedes has ever made IMO. Also this one is clean as hell for the miles/17 years old.
Excellent video guys. This is my 60th year working on cars 🚗 & love the older MB'S. My first Benz I bought at a birthday party on a hand shake, 98 E 430 at that time it was 2 years old. I still have that vehicle with 44,000 miles on it & I just love it ❤️ with collector car insurance on it. Yes you have to put some love into them 💕 but that's part of the deal. If you can't afford it you shouldn't own it. Try owning a Ferrari, that will make you cry if you don't know where to go to get parts or service from a reliable shop like OMEGA. GREAT JOB ❤️, TMP from N.J.
I own a E 420 1997... almost the same here. Great looking an solid car, love it😍
@Felipe Iturreyes Thank you sir. I'm glad you are enjoying your baby & thank for your comment.
W210 E 430? Yes!! I love W210'S & W211's so much. I dream of a facelift W210 E55. I love my C207 E350, but really want to go back in time a little.
Hope you haven't had to deal with pesky W210 rust too much.
Greetings also from NJ!
@RothBeyondTheGrave Thank you for your kind words sir. Sir can honestly say that my vehicle doesn't have any rust whatsoever including the lug nuts. My engine is as quiet as being in a church & everything operates as the day it was made, take care & God bless, TMP from N.J.
It's good to see someone who goes through it so systematic, but sometimes it must be depressing to be on the customers end when you leave it for some minor fix and you get that list back ;)
If you stay on top of things, you won't be getting a long list.
When I did oil changes for awhile at a stealership, in 1997,I'd find things,as I did the same inspections the Wizard does.It saved a family, possibly,as I found the front u-joint about to let go in a minivan's driveshaft.(4x4 model)Luckily the owner had an 'immediately fix major parts' order with the boss as she had almost 330,000 miles,No kidding,on a Ford Aerostar. It was The family hauler.
SBC system warranty has been extended to 25 years. Have an 05 E320 CDI and got a notice from MBUSA a couple years ago
FYI - A judgement from a class action suit extended the SBC warranty to 25 years and unlimted miles.
This turned me down from buying an E55. But now since this has changed I’m stacking my Pennies, and gonna sell my R129 in the upcoming summer to attempt buying my first E55 this upcoming fall or winter.
The interior was very clean. No funky junk on the steering wheel or shifter.
They all dry rot bad, they need to figuire that out.
The SBC warranty was extended to 25 years
Classic '05 MBZ looking sharp! Wizard has a great selection of mechanics, which makes a world-class shop.
Great to see magic mike and all your other techs on camera, keep up your great work gentlemen
Good to see The Car Wizard is passing on his knowledge and experience onto his employees will Magic Mike be doing inspections in the future
Arnott makes high quality rear air springs that are pretty easy to install when compared to the OE springs.
I owned a 2008 E320 CDI it was a great car with 64 000 miles on the clock , I had the glow plugs , brake pads and glow plug controller replaced, they were the only replacements , when I sold it the front subframe mountings were rocking under hard braking , and the nearside shock absorber had an internal knock
That model was used extensively as taxi in Denmark at that time.
It's nice to see more of Magic Mike
Every state needs more places like omega and the wizard, some of these places are outta control. The states need to start going thru some places and of they aren't living up to the billing they need to shut em' down and eventually we'll end up with alot more places like this, and less people getting taken advantage of. Great Channel man 👍
Thank goodness I work on my own C 320 Mercedes.
Exactly right Wizard, “when you see Michelin tires you know the owner cared and wanted things right “ !! Tires do say a lot about the owner…
I over maintain my E320. 280K miles, never any problems never "failed to proceed". I am lucky, I have an excellent, honest mechanic, just like you. This will last me forever
i loved working on the w211 series when i was at the dealership. so simple to work on.
Yep. I have had several and they are mechanically really easy and logical to work on, even though I'm not a professional.
I care less for the car review part of the videos, but I truly appreciate your videos. Knowledgeable and informative.
The Car Wizard and Magic Mike are great mechanics!
Magic Mike very very sharp!
It's nice to see experience leads to their expertise .. They know the Mercedes cars,.. I'm an owner, there is a lot to know!! Great job guys!!😊❤
The transmission mount was interesting, I understand why the breakdown just by looking at it
This w211 is in really good nick. Congrats to the buyer.
i just bought one of these and it’s in slightly worse cosmetic shape, and it’s got a few very minor issues (slightly inaccurate fuel gauge, bad alarm causing fuse to short, suspension rides a little high i think) but in general the powertrain is in wonderful shape (bone dry in the engine bay, good coolant, stays quiet, starts well) and it had pretty nice michelins on it with plenty of tread left.
(As it had rwd and we have winter in the alps, the traction control added a little wear on snow sometimes)
In those years i never had any problem with the SBC brake, and it took me to get an AMG to have similar feeling brake performance.
And basically they stopped using it in the e-class in 2006 i think mainly for costs. The SL had the same system and they didn't remove it from there until the end of the model.
Quickly becoming my favorite RUclips automotive channel!
My 08 is running strong at 170k :)
I am getting close to 400k miles on my 2006 E320 CDI. I put facelifted bumper lights mirrors so looks like 2009
I like when cars are original, hate when people mod them. Pointless, just, keep it stock and save the $$$.
I used to work on lots of these, watching this is nostalgic
These are really great cars. I've had the wagon version with M112 engine. Now I have the CDI with OM648 engine, and the older E55 with M113 engine.
Magic Mike the mercedes man!
That’s one good ticket there!
I’ve been working for Benz since 01 so I remember when these were new. Now I feel old
:(
These are so sweet to work on. We have an m272 powered one now but I miss that ol' 112. Simple, reliable and smoooooth.
Careful application of hot air from a Heat Gun or Hairdryer and some gentle rubbing with a cloth will help re-attach the loose Leather on the Centre Console.
Love Mrs. Wizard’s interior tours!
SBC system is currently 25 year warranty
That looks like one easy motor to work on. The space is amazing.
I remember when my Sister in law was first driving I had to take her car for our MOT Test and I turned it on and selected 1st gear and i got a loud thud as the engine tilted and hit the fire wall and the gear stick dropped about 2 inches, Later that day I asked her about the banging and I said do you just turn the music up to hide any bangs her answer was yes, then I looked at the brakes metal on metal on the 2 front outer pads
and about 1mm on the inner pads we had to have a big talk with her and she developed a few brain cells.
Magic Mike is a real professional
The Wizard is fast becoming THE go to mechanic for America!!! 👍👍👍
Wizard, you may surprised at the value of a box of broken PlayStations. The value of these just keep going up.

U should see how nice shape my 05 chevy malibu maxx is. I baby my car inside n out thats why my car is still going strong at 380,000. Shocks alot of people. Car doesn't look like it miles. I've seen a malibu same yr only 50,000 n it was beat to hell.
But it's still a Chevy
I owned an e320 wagon. Such a nice solid car, loved it!
Thanks for featuring these w211s wizard. Keep up the great work!
10:15 One more nice-to-have item for the list is that the front center jacking block is missing. The hole is there between the two belly pans. :)
nice video. great examples of mechanical diagnostics. nice new camera. hopefully the walk arounds on typical cars will stop some day.
I had a gorgeous 2006 E350 4matic. No big issues
Gaskets, wheel bearing, trans mount, water pump + Mercedes = open up your wallet at the shop.
@@gordonmccracken1209 true, buckle up as they say, lol
Weird coincidence I just finished doing work on my 05 e320 did water pump radiator thermostat temp sensor and more, did valve covers and mounts a few months ago , love Benz
The wheel bearing tension can be adjusted, quick fix usually... Amazing cars these W211's
I would like to see a cost breakdown on those repairs.
Replace belt , idlers and tensioner every 40-60k or you'll be on borrowed time
This one is pretty nice. And they offer a lovely roomy and somewhat zoomy ride
Those comfort hydraulic engine mounts offer a superb smooth operating ride until they puke out that nasty black goop then buzz vibrate clank clank.
Those 320 deeezels r the bees knees. I've seen em well over 250k and clean. One smooth torqeee operator. I used to service onenowmed by a oil tycoon. The guy would drive it back and forth from centex all the way to brazil.
That interior looks a million times better than the Jaguar F-Type you guys featured, and with a ton more miles on it. Just shows what taking care of your car can do.
One of the best engines Mercedes ever made!
We sold my wife’s E320 with 323K miles and motor was still running good. We purchased used with 40K miles! M112 is very durable!
My brother owns a 2008 E350! Looks like this, expect the interior is different. My favorite Benz ever! I love Classic Benz
