Interesting to look at the photographs displayed. The Zorki is a great camera at little money. In the late 1970’s the Zorki 4K was my very first 35mm camera and I still have it. Good choice to get a lens hood and the yellow filter will add a little to sky re definition. Try a red filter for very dark skies with the kens. The Jupiter 8 f2 lens is another bonus. One of the very best points of this camera is the superb diopter - no matter your eyesight you can get a great viewfinder view. Hope to see more videos.
Nice looking Zorki! I was never a pro photographer but I am a long time rangefinder user. And, a Zorki is my favorite camera. I do have a Zorki 4 that is a bit older than yours--I chose that one because it has strap lugs. The other benefit with earlier Zorkis is that the shutter speeds are engraved rather than screen printed. So they will likely not wear off any time soon. The one additional accessory I would suggest is a rubber O-ring to put around the viewfinder eyepiece. I went to my local hardware store and found one that fits tightly without needing to glue it on. This has been very useful to minimize scratches on my eyeglass lenses (from rubbing against the vf eyepiece). If you can shoot without your glasses, then this isn't necessary but, in my case, I have to wear my glasses all my waking hours. I have a yellow-green filter pretty much permanently on my lenses when shooting BW film. The effect is similar to a yellow but I prefer the look a bit more. Lastly, teach yourself the habit of advancing the film BEFORE changing shutter speeds. Most of the "former soviet union" cameras will suffer damage otherwise. There are some exceptions to this but, for me, I decided that this habit was simpler than taking the chance that I remembered which could or could not break if I didn't advance first. Thanks for the video and I have subscribed so as to follow along!
Hi, i have the same camera from 1972 and i use a strap and adapter from Peak Design , adapter screws onto your tripod mount then the strap clips on to it, just hangs upside down but a reasonable compromise for me at least 👍
I'd love to hear about some of your news paper stories you've covered and maybe a peak at some of the photograph's if you still have copies, it would be interesting I think as each time you mention it I get intrigued what was your best scoop you may have had. Regards, James
I picked up a 1972 Zorki 4 earlier this year, and will be running that for the 2024 Frugal Film Project, with some Kodak Ultramax 400. Mine did come with the ever-ready case, but needed some TLC as the leather had dried out (broke out the leather balsam I use on my boots, and it worked a treat) although I think I'd have preferred the half case as the upper half tends to just dangle and get in the way at times.
I discovered some rolls of film still in their boxes with an expiration date of 2002! So it probably about how long it's been since I was shooting film all the time. Thanks for watching and commenting. It's going to be an interesting journey!
you are very brave buying accessories for a vintage camera not yet film tested. i like your style!!! good luck with your zorki!! i have a leica barnack style zorki thats engraved as 1980 olympics but very sure that engraving was very after market lol ... however its fully functional and an absolute blast to shoot. hoping you have as much fun with your zorki as i do with mine. cheers, the Rabbit. =:3
This camera is really good if You find in good order. I have 2 of them b4 my Leica and i totally can't sey anything wrong about this camera. But looking at period of time it was many years after leica m3. Sorry for my bad english. I can say only good things about so cheep camera ;)
Im not understanding the mounting nuances of Zorkis and Leicas. Soviet zs had M39 and M39 LTM. This didnt work together? Are a lot of early soviet M39 lenses not working on Zorkis? How about Leica lenses?

Thanks for the video and your insights. I am also experimenting with film again after being away from it for 25 years or so.

This is going to be a long series if you haven't even put a film in it yet. :)
