I've been collecting New Balance sneakers since 2012 and I never owned a pair of these. I don't consider the China made stuff having good quality materials. I mainly go for the Made In USA or England models because they are not machine or mass made and crafted by a team. The legendary Team 33 made a lot of great sneakers but of course due to the age of the people they have retired and such.
I've been to meetings with the NB staff and have talked about pricing and such and the reason they cannot bring quality materials to Asia is because of the import taxation. Most of the 'Made In' sneakers are expensive and if they were to send the materials to Asia they would pay tax and then when the shoes are made and sent back to them they have to pay tax. This means the sneakers would cost even more.
I understand that not everyone can afford a 99X series but they won't ever try to mass make them in China if the price will just go up. So they would rather create newer models to try and bring similar comfort and quality at an affordable cost.
I never saw the hype with these as I don't follow the crowd and would rather buy something different to stand out. Even my friends from The Basement that had collaborations with New Balance I never liked. They were not into New Balance when I was around them before they became famous.
I've retired from collecting sneakers as I have bigger goals and already have a collection of things that people cannot find or even pay for even if they do find them. But today's sneakerheads aren't the same as us older people who seek out vintage, out of print, originals versions of today's sneakers. We used to buy old sneakers just for the box. Nowadays people buy sneakers because the Internet is telling people to do so subliminally. I won't buy something just because everyone says to, that's sheep mentality just like how everyone is buying Air Jordan's when in fact most models are not that comfortable because the technology is from the 80's and 90's. But it's what the youth wear to fit in.
I'm just glad I stopped impulse buying and that was from me staying in the Philippines for 9 months where I didn't have much Internet. If this didn't happen I would still be out every weekend buying the latest sneakers and then looking at my collection knowing I don't like most of them.
I still like looking at reviews and all but mostly for performance because that's what a sneaker is really for... To play sports. Not just to look at.

Hey bro! Appreciate you stopping by and commenting! I agree with you man, and tbh I like new balance sneakers in terms of wearability and comfort. So yea, this I wore already but jordans that I bought last year are still DS. Lol in regards to the quality of NB made in us vs china, i think craftsmanship is a valid point as my made in US series came in flawless and this comes with some stitching issues. Overall, still happy with this 2002r. No hype needed, just pure comfort 👌🏼

I don't think so, but the 2002r does have a few goretex colorways which are waterproof!
